  • Before Bill Shankly, Liverpool were a second-division side who had achieved moderate success. But in Shankly's 15 years in charge, they were completely transformed, becoming one of the best teams in the world, and the impact Shankly had on the club can still be seen to this day.

    Shanks was a true great, everyone in football respects him. I am a United fan man and boy, however I believe we should all recognise the brilliance of Bill Shankley.

    Bill Shankly & Bob Paisley made Liverpool , Bill was the heart & Bob was the brain in tactics & getting the right players. When Bill resigned then Bob just stepped up & that ship sailed on. Without Paisley the Liverpool trophy room would have been much less. It was early on a double act with Bill the Joker with the quips & Bob the straight man providing the right lines.

    The sad thing is Shankly knew he had to retire because the stress got to his body. A doctor must have told him either retire or suffer a heart attack within the next few years. Either way, Shankly built the foundation to make the team the BEST in Europe of the mid 70's and early 80's when it came to European Cup success. He had Bob Paisley as a great successor that didn't mess up the formula and allowed the team to continue winning and and be successful all those years. Without Shankly, Liverpool never become the big club especially European Cup winners later on. HE LAID THE FOUNDATION, I can't stress that enough .

    • @afcfinners
      @afcfinners  15 дней назад +1

      You’re right and history is repeating itself with Klopp it seems. You’re spot on, Liverpool would be next to nothing without Shankly

    • @redmustangredmustang
      @redmustangredmustang 15 дней назад +1

      @@afcfinners then Bob Paisley took that foundation and won 20 trophies in 9 years which is amazing onto it self. Liverpool had that good formula and Paisley was able to build upon it with Souness, Hansen, and Dalglish in 1977.

      @afcfinners  15 дней назад

      @@redmustangredmustang yeah often that continuity plan doesn’t work but in that case it was incredible, to have that level of success sustained with the succession plan over 30 years is incredible

    Shame how the club treated him at the end of his years. He spent more time at Belfield, Everton's training ground, and teaching kids in West Derby a few training tips

      Unfortunately Liverpool had no choice as every time Paisley gave an instruction the players would look to Shankly to see that is was all right. Mat Busby had retired from Man United and cost at least two managers their job. I was lucky enough to have met the great man. Come on the Redmen.

    • @lyndoncmp5751

      @mattbutler3852
      Yep. Initially, Shanks used to come to the training sessions and the players still kept calling him "Boss" which undermined Paisley. That could not continue.
      As much as I love Shanks it was he who decided to quit. The club didn't. If you quit then you quit. You don't then still come round like all was normal.
