I was only born in 1985 but the words of Shanks fill me with passion and pride. What he did to build up the team I support will still be immortalised in our history forever. I play these videos when I’m looking for inspiration and motivation. The Word legend doesn’t do him justice

I've never seen this before, great tribute and yes some tears. My friend and I David Wallis went to watch Liverpool v Leeds at Anfield. I think it was 1972 we arrived very very early about 9 o'clock in the morning. Reason being those days you paid at the entrance. Leeds were a powerhouse of a team so Anfield would be full. At about 10 o'clock a photographer from the Liverpool echo appeared at and on learning how long we were prepared to wait,he took our photo which appeared later on in the Echo. The was of course the problem waiting so long and being cold a call of nature would call at an inopportune moment. After which I made my way back to David. The Liverpool players and staff had a small car park next to the ground. I was a bit of a dreamer and whilst my mind was elsewhere a man ruffled my hair and said " Good morning son" It was the great man. What a great day that was. Only the result was missing.

As a long suffering Spurs fan,I'm certainly speaking from a unbiased position (who was sick of seeing Liverpool smash everyone😩)but from my perspective when they talk of the greatest managers in the History of English/British/ football (and we know that's a difficult "judgment call"because it all depends on many different variables and criteria)but it has to be Bill Shankley(followed by the Man Utd Legend Sir Matt Busby, Nottingham forest Brian clough,Bill Nicholson of the Spurs and of course in the modern $$$$$$$ game Sir Alex ferguson of Man utd)
And he's easily my choice because the National sport of the UK,has always been associated with the"Working man"(many teams were created through workers unions and other Org)and Bill Shankley never lost that connection with the fans and always went out of his way to put emphasis on that point..
It probably came from his tough and hard upbringing, but I don't think it was just that, because many past players came from humble beginnings and soon forgot about them as soon as the money and celebrity came rolling in.
No he managed to maintain that humility because it was in his DNA and that's what made him great and so revered in Liverpool and elsewhere..
And he achieved something so rare, he managed to impact the live's of a whole city..A TRUE LEGEND..

@@retro1937 Oh yeah he was also a tremendous Manager an d for some reason I neglected to add his name,I better put that right!!.
But Bill Shankley was something else...I read somewhere that in the 70's the "Labour Party'"were trying to get him to run as a MP,!.Can u imagine,he would have taken over&be been running the show! but they would have been plotting behind his back, because he would have given them some honest"Home truths"..His straightforwardness and intellect is so
sadly missed these days of phoniness and BS.

It was 1972 Liverpool played Leeds United in the FA Cup probably the best team at the time. David and I although living only 7 miles away set off early for the game kick off at 3 o'clock very yearly, 9 in the morning. We arrived at Anfield very excited of course next to no one there. On having a sip of Davids tea a photographer appeared and wanted to take our photo because we were so early. He said he was from the Echo which we didn't believe and he took the photo. An hour or so later we were joined by three ladies who looked after us,. As often as it happened with me, nature called ( I need a wee) on finding allee way ( no toilets then) I did what I had to do and made my way back to David. The ülayers car park was to my left when I heard a voice that will stay with me until I die. "A bit early aren't you son" in that wonderful, gravel Scottish voice. It was Bill Shankly who then ruffled my hair. I couldn't speak, my mouth was open but nothing came out. The game ended 0_0 and yes the reporter was from the echo.

Shankly became an enemy of the corrupt state, Shankly represented honesty, truth, endeavour, morality, family values all the things the state hates. I have no doubt something was arranged to bring Shanks out of football because people would literally die for him. Look at his un-natural demeanor when his retirement was announced, it is so obvious he was on the end of a sinister happening. He died at 68, his desire to live was stolen.

I think 2:11 Kevin Keegan said it best, Shankly didn't want to be seen as sickly or in a wheelchair not being able to do anything. I had that happen with my grandmother. She never wanted to be in a nursing home and sadly had a fall and broke her leg and shoulder. It would have been 24/7 nursing home care and yet a stroke and pneumonia took her. She prayed for death and got a quick one.
