This reminds me on how I found you on here about 2 years ago cause I wanted to try ultralight gear on the fish here in South Florida canals... Awesome.. I m so happy for you John. God bless you Brother 👍✝️♥️🎣🏹🛶🇺🇸
Rebel Pop'R: Let it sit when it lands, count to 5. Then, twitch, twitch, pause... and with slightly slack line, pull down and hard with the rod tip to cause it to make a 'Gloop' sound. Pause about 3 seconds, and repeat. The twitches cause it to spit, making the sound of a fleeing baitfish. The 'gloop' sound is what triggers a reaction bite.
I could watch you bank fish all day long! Really like it when you fish with the lite lines and lite lures. Micro baits are so fun! It was a good day of feeshin 😊
I absolutely love using my light action setup for these types of creeks. 6 ft Ugly Stik GX2 with a Mitchell 310 reel. 4 lb monofilament is all I use. I can't get around to using fluorocarbon or braid. Sometimes monofilament will get it done for all sorts of fishing.
For my ultralight setup I use a 5'6 shakespeare mirco series ultralight, with a cadence ideal 1000 real, and 4lb stren mono. Here in Kentucky on the Elkhorn creek & smaller creeks use alot of mini rebel baits, 1/16 oz rooster tails, 2.5 inch yum crawbugs, and them Nikko 3 inch hellgramites. Love it haha
Try doing a pop sequence with the popr then pause it until the ripples from the pops dissipate, lots of times they will eat it when it's sitting still.
I always shave the bottom lip of the popper way down. It makes it spit more than chug, it’s less obnoxious. Great video today, I gotta go fix an AC now
I started fishing Rebel lures after seeing them on your channel. The crick hopper is an absolute killer, but I’ve been trying other models too. It seems like they all have a really tight wiggle that really draws the attention from fish
My FAVORITE style video catching what you can find in a creek!! I am not happy you lost a lure but glad that you showed it as I was beginning to wonder if you always made the perfect cast and never got hung!! 🤣
John I used the rebel minnow also there's a small one inch and a half and I use the Blue on top silver and I used the Chrome Style it works very good also
Those little rebel lures have been solid performers for decades. They were my go-to lures for creek fishing back in the early to mid 80s. Thanks for sharing your afternoon trip.
Love this video and type of fishing brother. I'd wade a few smaller creeks with my 4'6 Berkley Cherrywood, Abu Garcia ultralight and 4# line and tear up the bluegill, green sunfish and rock bass. Largemouth were a bonus. Beetle Spin, tiny Rebel minnow and Pop R were kings. But you introduced me to the Crick Hopper my friend. And those are killing pond bass, creek smallies and rock bass now. Glad you and the Pop R made peace lol. Thanks for sharing brother. Keep fishing 🎣 John
Those are some great lures to fish with. Would love to set up a trail cam on those fallen trees across the creek to see what critters are using them as a bridge.
Super early for this one, just got home from fishing too! Didn’t catch any today but it was beautiful and sometimes the best part of fishing is just being outside :) Great video like usual John!!
Your channel got me interested in the Coosa Bass. Caught my first 3 a couple weeks ago. They fight real well for there size and are great to catch on ultralight. I am "hooked." Thanks John, watch all your videos and look forward every week to see what you have for us!!! Keep up the great work.
I love all the Rebel hardbaits but I think the Crickhopper has to top the list for me. Gotta love a company that makes very affordable, yet effective lures.
I've always snipped off 1 of the rear hooks on micro trebles. I always get the fish that eats all of the hook, yet you can't get it back out easily. Snipping one off makes it easier for sure.
On the tiny Pop R. Think ripples not pops. Just tiny little pops. I like a 3 pop pause and repeat reel with it, but you can mix up the pops just pause in between. Sometimes just a second, other times for an eternity. 😂
It's cool to see how far rebel lures have come!!! When I was a kid I would pay the extra dollar or 2 and get a rapala because half the time the rebels weren't balanced and would have messed up action!!
I used to have success with Rebel Pop-Rs (regular sized) by casting, letting it sit for a full minute, giving it some very light twitches... if not hit by then, I'd do the pop retrieve. Had my biggest blowup on one when I was a kid.
Very cool man. I have always loved the little rebel lures, especially the crick hopper and the little craws those have consistently been faves of mine since I was a kid. I usually keep at least 3 colors of each. I need to get better at using the crick-popper, I'm just not that skilled at popper lures. Great video, and I always like seeing people using small lures.
Those largemouth just have that one solid stripe. That's pretty cool. I definitely want to catch some of those Coosa Bass one day! They look awesome. The Longear was cool too. 😎 Red Breast are always fun! Great video. 👍👍
Thank you john for the motivation to get out try the creeks and guess what 4 pnd smallie in a creek running into the river my PB and my buddy said i was crazy fishing creeks lol !!!!! And was my bday !!!!! Yes
Great video I remember the first blue gill I caught on a Rebel cricket I was amazed . We live in a beautiful area . These videos are a good way to share it . Too many times we walk past places we should take time to look closer . Stay safe keep fishing signed Will
Nice simple Creek fishing adventure Pretty red breast and those coosa Bass wish we had them up here in Indiana never heard of them up here closest thing we got is a rock bass or red eye goggle eye whatever you want to call them fun to catch great video John hoping to have 70 and 80 degree weather this weekend and some fishing with it God bless you John keep on cranking out those videos
this is amazing, love your channel. any tips on how to tell if theres fish in a stream? i cant tell if its warm enough. i just got a little rebel craw and i ike it a lot
A short (maybe 8-12 in) mono leader with braid main line will help the action on the popper. You want the line to float and lay on the water. Anyways, fun video!
Love those Coosa Bass John! Such savage little fighters for their size… always found in the best looking little waters too. Have u tried the Rebel Bumble Bugs yet? Just a little som’n different but along the same lines as the Crickhopper and Teeny-Wee craws. BTW… that’s Virginia Creeper, not Poison Ivy… leaves of three, let it be… leaves of five, leave it to thrive.
I caught 1 of my biggest bass out of the creek last year on that tiny Rebel PopR. Using 6 lb test and a light action rod. It was a 2 1/2 lb large mouth. It put up a really good fight. 👊👍
In a couple weeks i will be back in Italy to see my family and i'll definitely go to try fishing at the creek nearby . I don't know what i gonna find because i read some local news and it said that the situation of the creek is not the best. Many wineries along the creek discharge polluting liquids ... that is really sad . Anyway thanks for your work and your videos John :)
In your video you show coming up to a what looks like a debris from an old fence and you step over it. Please be careful doing this. Several years ago I wadding back waters on the Tennessee River in north Alabama and in this particular area crappie were spawning in the blow downs on the bank so what I would do is catch several out of each tree and then walk back off the tree and move to the next one. During one of my moves, I was walking over some old limbs and a small rotten log and when I stepped over, a copper head was coiled up on the sunny side of the log and when I stepped over he tagged me. Luckily for me I was wearing snake boots and when he struck his fangs got hung in my boot. What I had to do was step on his body and then quickly snatched him off my boot. Unfortunately when I did that I ended up injuring him and had to out him down. What was shocking is so how well camouflaged he was. During the spring copperhead will come out and they love to rest on the sunny side of old rotten logs and brush. Please be careful when stepping over logs or brush on creek banks. Trust me you will not see them and this time of the year especially in the mornings they are cold and will NOT move when you get near them. Please be careful and if possible do not step over but rather walk around the brush pile or logs. It is amazing how well they blend in to the leaf piles in the woods. You will not see them.
Never been there but I knew immediately what that place is. I’ve got permission to get on it from him but haven’t been able to meet up with him to find it.
Hey John, that looks like great morel mushroom hunting forest your in. Do you look or hunt for them especially when your on private property? The season is approaching for us up here in northern illinois. Love the vids bud!
That’s my property and I hunt morels. Unfortunately I have never ever found a single one there. I have to go other places to find them. I do however find a Lions Mane every now and then.
Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit ruclips.net/user/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.
So with the popper, you are working it too fast. Cast it. Let the ripples disappear and then pop it one or two times and then pause. They hit it on the pause. Use a mini hula popper and you'll get a ton of bass
Hey mate, nice video. I'm from Australia and have afew questions... Fishing such a small creek, do you have to worry about 'spooking' the fish? I mean do you have to try and not let the fish see you? And how big do those 'red breast' grow? They are a cool looking fish.
There certainly could have been some bigger fish in there that got spooked. I try to sneak up to the banks to make casts. Redbreast can get bigger but this is normal. They get bigger down south of here
Awesome. Where I'm from, I target 'murray cod', 'golden perch/yellow belly', 'trout cod' and redfin. But redfin are considered a pest here as they are an introduced species (but good eating). You should check out some of the species in Australia. The Murray cod can grow bloody big.
I wish I could post pictures to show you some of my catches. Oh, check out the 'Murray crayfish'. I've caught some monsters, from the tips of your fingers to your elbow joint.
This reminds me on how I found you on here about 2 years ago cause I wanted to try ultralight gear on the fish here in South Florida canals... Awesome.. I m so happy for you John. God bless you Brother 👍✝️♥️🎣🏹🛶🇺🇸

That’s definitely the best way to do it!
Tim, you have right. One of my top favoirite 3 lures for pond bass.
Wouldn’t it be nice to own property with a stream holding healthy fish. Truly blessed. Thanks John for sharing another fishing adventure.
Ya know what?? This might be my favorite kind of video. Simple, realistic, peaceful, relatable... good job John!
I could watch you bank fish all day long! Really like it when you fish with the lite lines and lite lures. Micro baits are so fun! It was a good day of feeshin 😊
Thats Virginia Creeper but the Poison Ivy is bustin out like crazy around here! Remember, leaves of three, let it be. Great video by the way!
I use a Mitchell 308 with my Shakespeare Durango ultralight 5'0.
I use an old Mitchell 408 with my light action ugly stik 👍
Glad it’s spring John!
Lol glad to see you using the crickhopper. My favorite small lure and the yellow with red is one of my favorites
I love you going back to where you started from time to time.
I haven't seen that color either! Mmm... Healthy looking fish.
Caught a couple of nice Smallies creek fishing in Southwest Ohio earlier this month on a tiny Rebel craw.
Try doing a pop sequence with the popr then pause it until the ripples from the pops dissipate, lots of times they will eat it when it's sitting still.
Gotta get my Creek Fishing Fix
Nothing but healthy fish in that ecosystem, really fun video and loved all the chunky fish!
Dude, you got me to use the Crickhopper and I thank you for all the bass and Crappie my daughter caught. God Bless
Me too
I always shave the bottom lip of the popper way down.
Me too, I had to get some after seeing John use them. Super fun.
I originally saw Bill Dance fishing the crickhopper, then John. Great creek lure
Well done young man. Thanks for sharing. See ya next time.
First time I watched a video of yours the creek was about 7 feet wide, loved it then love it even more.
I have caught a ton of bream, and small bass on the Rebel Wee Craw.
That crickhopper is way underated
Rebel pop-r one of my favorite all time lures.
My FAVORITE style video catching what you can find in a creek!! I am not happy you lost a lure but glad that you showed it as I was beginning to wonder if you always made the perfect cast and never got hung!! 🤣
The og crick hopper returns lol.. I’m ready to see this slay fest
They make several colours the tan and dark green work amazing...the mini crayfish is a must-have.....
Wooooooo weeeeeeeeeee!! That creek looks perfect for using crappie nibbles Jon!!
LOL Seth !!!
@@fishinwithslush8657 i bet they would hammer 🔨 the crappie nibbles in there!!
John I used the rebel minnow also there's a small one inch and a half and I use the Blue on top silver and I used the Chrome Style it works very good also

I have the same little rod 👍
I just watched this again 😀 and loved it !! I saw it when it originally aired !! Thanks Bro. John
I love these, because they work.
Love some rebel critters! Fun video!
That's why we say "Let's go fishing" NOT "Let's go catching"
That little craw fish my uncle use to catch trout on thr fire tiger color.
Your channel got me interested in the Coosa Bass. Caught my first 3 a couple weeks ago. They fight real well for there size and are great to catch on ultralight. I am "hooked." Thanks John, watch all your videos and look forward every week to see what you have for us!!! Keep up the great work.
John you caught a tree pounder with that Popper. LOL
The cricket hoper poper is one of my favorite lures for creek fishing
Man, I hate losing lures.
The teeny WeeR in craw pattern is awesome too. Love all your vids.
Very nice fishing! Some of the small bass were ambitious, lol. 👍
Thank you for getting me hooked onto the rebel lures they work great!

I always did love catching those redeye bass to. God bless you and your family....🙏❤🙏❤🙏😀🙂😊
Hey John the floro line is the problem with the popper it sinks and kills the action 👍 keep up the videos
Bass go crazy for that jointed minnow on hot days I've found
John, awesome video. you ever heard of bfs fishing?? its right up your alley
Started using the Crickhoppers last year based on your recommendation. I’ve had a lot of success, thanks!
Those largemouth just have that one solid stripe. That's pretty cool. I definitely want to catch some of those Coosa Bass one day! They look awesome. The Longear was cool too. 😎 Red Breast are always fun! Great video. 👍👍

this year has been behind the ball in NJ the weather has the water really cold
great video, thanks John. I too like the Rebel mini lures.
The Value Minnow is a great lure. Great for trout.
Try slowing down your retrieve on the Pop R. Use longer pauses on the retrieve. Take your time and enjoy the ride.
Nice tree bass John. I like those little poppers, just vary your retrieve. Don't be afraid to let them sit. Thats how i work them here in Ohio.
You should try to find some of their wee frogs. Work very well in creeks.
Loving the small creek fishing with small lures! Watch out for snakes ! Always be careful. Randy B.
Keep it up! Like the lure change up!
Great video I remember the first blue gill I caught on a Rebel cricket I was amazed . We live in a beautiful area . These videos are a good way to share it . Too many times we walk past places we should take time to look closer . Stay safe keep fishing signed Will

I’ve heard the best way to fish those mini helgramites is deep and try to make it look like a helgramite swimming between points of cover
this is amazing, love your channel. any tips on how to tell if theres fish in a stream? i cant tell if its warm enough. i just got a little rebel craw and i ike it a lot

They don't have to be big to be fun and beautiful. Nice
Beautiful Coosa bass!!!!
Virginia creeper.
Loved the creek 🎣
In the state of Alabama as long as you stay inside high water it's not trespassing in the creek's
I'd like to see a catch clean cook on some of them panfish
Awesome looking redbreast buddy 👌 😀

Nice and early to this one!
Awesome as always brother 👊🏻
Never been there but I knew immediately what that place is. I’ve got permission to get on it from him but haven’t been able to meet up with him to find it.
nice video, good looking creek for sure.

To the person reading this: Even though I don’t know you, I wish you the best of what life has to offer ❤️
Went fishing for 5 hours today and didn’t get anything it was one of those days live the video!
I’ve been meaning to pick up a creek hopper and Hellgrammite. Couldn’t find the latter late last year anywhere… hope they’re not out of production?
Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit ruclips.net/user/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. It would be fun to see you do some night fishing. What about targeting some turtles?
John quick question how far up a Creek do you walk while fishing I mean are you walking a mile up a creek?
Hi John. If you're only working a creek, is that really considered trespassing? Serious question. Thanks. Great channel.
I believe it depends on the law in your state.
I believe that if it is "navigable" you can wade it.
You must be below the high water line., so being far on the bank like that, and not "in" the creek is considered trespassing in most states.
🎣🔥🙏 Nice Ultralight micro lures!
Like this buddy, congratulation Always #FoconoUltralight
Hey mate, nice video. I'm from Australia and have afew questions... Fishing such a small creek, do you have to worry about 'spooking' the fish? I mean do you have to try and not let the fish see you? And how big do those 'red breast' grow? They are a cool looking fish.
