I have converted John.....throwing big wake baits and stuff recently catching very nice fish even in the creeks!!! I definitely will always have the spinning gear but throwing those big baits is just too much fun!!!
John, I did that in Lake Mohave and landed a 28" striper from my kayak. The day before I landed a 26" small mouth, which may have been the state record, according to the ranger.
Guys up north here in IL use musky gear for hybrid stripers. Ours get up around the size of yours but that's max. My father-in-law showed me Lake Cumberland and the river fish over 40 pounds. Gotta imagine it's like fighting big Lake Trout here or as my brother says "hooking a Volkswagen". Nothing wrong with venturing into the big fish. Great video brother. Blessings
Last Saturday I hooked a 2ft striper on 3" Berkley power bait pogy shad swimbait natural color. Of course it was on my micro set up for Perch. Forgot the net , the 8lb braid snapped while I was trying to get the fish in the kayak. Kiser Lake, St. Paris Ohio
Were you talkin' bout Miliken fishing? He loves those glide baits, I love how excited you get every time you catch a fish which is why I love watching you I am the same way but I only catch about 25% of what you catch lol. Very nice fish brother keep em coming!
That is one nice catch, so glad I caught your video! I have a 4" shad kind of like that, it has big black eye's and silver on the sides, catches a lot of stripe's and hybrid's. God Bless, (Glen). WV.
Pretty sure that was a hybrid, and if so, that could've been the state record. Lol You're literally right down the road from my house. Not even 10 minutes. Check out Cordell Hull dam next time.
Big baits can be a challenge with little reward but when you have a fish attack a big bait, there's not much more of a rush you get from fishing freshwater than that feeling right there
John We fish lures in the 12 inch range for the muske in our lake but it is called the fish of a1000 hours but you can catch them up to45 or 50 inches but your fish was really great it was fun to watch nice fish go luck
When I was a kid,we used to troll for them on the lakes. Maybe the speed makes a difference in their attacking or not? We also went out in the Gulf trolling and my brother in law said that we needed to be at a certain speed for Spanish mackerel/certain species of fish.
GREAT fish! Where we striper fish at, we fish a creek, that feeds into a creek, that feeds into a river. In the smallest creek, we call it the nursery, there are stripers in the 8-10 lb range. In the middle creek, we call it the high school, 11 or 12 to about 18 lbs., and at the mouth of the creek where it dumps into the river there are monsters pushing 50+ lbs...we call them "won't bites"...they'll follow pretty much anything you throw, including live baits, all the way back to the boat, even swipe at it now and then, but you can almost never seal the deal with them. Mine and my wife's pb there is 27 and 22 lbs, respectively, and both of those live on our wall, now! Stay safe!
Red ear sliders
The big one was a striper I catch weekly my main fish river an long island sound is 5 minutes walk from my porch
Hybrid have broken lines stripers long straight solid line an are more slender long but so strong even 14 inch ones feel like a 5 pound Bass lol
That's a hybrid you can tell by broken stripe lines it's a cross between white bass and striped bass
4:20 some sort of Map Turtle I believe

Looks like a Map Turtle. They have little saw tooth spikes on the shell.
Wow! Awesome adventure! That's all I got!
We used to use topwater - Zara Spook or a carrottop - Don't know if they even make those lures
i want to try that for the striper

It's kinda fun to catch a fish that could eat everything you catch on a regular day isn't it ! Your hooked !
Uh huh. John delivers. I honk the turtle was a Blue-Ringed Octopus Turtle. I’m glad it felt the love. Nice stripper. Nicer day out on the river.
