Just got my DIY Decon Towel and I'm pumped to use it. Coming from having learned to mechanically decon a car with a piece of clay bar that roughly works out to 1.5" x 1.5" piece (or smaller), and moving to a decon towel that can cover an area the size of my hand!....all while not inducing the marring a clay bar does, AND the decon towel is reusable!!!! What a huge gain in the realm of car detailing.

If you pressure wash the iron that's been bleeding red for a while the contaminants come off pretty easily. The iron remover helps break down the iron and then it gets taken off with a pressure washer pretty easily.

Firstly, love that ur looking for efficiency but I don't view this as one.
You correctly highlighted that fallout doesn't dissolve fallout. It dissolves the rust layer around it.
The fallout as lube makes no sense from a damage perspective. It's a white car in the demo, the fallout comparison on both sides doesn't view well in video ie can barely see any difference as a viewer. From another perspective, neither method looks at the damage it prevents and this is key to this step.
Fallout remover needs time to dissolve the rust layer around this (drop a rusty bolt into a bath of fallout remover - the rust doesn't go immediately, it needs time). Your use of it as lube leads to no time for a reaction.
Spraying fallout remover onto the clay cloth is pointless, it's not getting the chance to react with the rust element of the bonded fallout. This use is just a very expensive way to lubricate the clay towel. You would be better off with just clay lube.
The whole purpose of fallout remover is to remove as much metal contamination before the physical mechanical removal of the left over contamination via claying. In your advised method this just doesn't happen, you are claying over metal fillings and (I would strongly suggest this is the case) leading to more marring. In the video the paint is white and damage isn't looked at at all.
Iron remover needs a good 6 to 8 minutes of dwell to allow the reaction to loosen the bonded fallout. Without this you are simply wasting product and money.
I get that the time isn't ideal but plan ur processes to allow you to be working on something while the fallout is working.
There is of course an argument that additional marring isnt a huge issue as if your doing this process you will be polishing anyway. I'm always of the view that don't create work for yourself and as a detailer I'm training to avoid damaging as best as I possibly can.
My summary here would be I view that u have just clayed fallout, don't bother with iron remover in this process if you can live with the additional marring caused.
    OR
Use fallout remover correctly allowing the dwell, rinse off dislodging fallout then clay - leading to less marring and makes perfect sense knowing how each product works.
Appreciate your continuous search for efficiencies but this isn't one.

Thanks guys, you are changing a world that is too oriented towards product dispersion and which perhaps also exceeds in refinements, which we enthusiasts who wash the car in our garage cannot apply.
I would like to ask you a question since next Saturday, given that numerous DIY products have arrived, I would like to proceed with the decontamination of my car.
I'll already tell you that I will proceed with decontamination towel and iron remover, after a thorough wash with Rinseless wash, I will follow Yvan's philosophy.
In the video, I see that you pass the water hose at the end of the decontamination, but I have not the hose in my garage.
If I remember correctly, Nick in a previous video rinsed the iron remover with a generous spray containing Rinselss wash 256:1, and then added normally with a towl
    Can I proceed like this?
    Cheers from Italy

Great information, thanks for the video. It seems to me that, because the Iron Remover doesn't actually remove any iron at all but only removes the rust on the iron, there is no reason to use the expensive Iron Remover. Just use the decon towel with your favourite (and cheaper) lubrication and get the same result. Or maybe I missed something.

Ya but you missed the reasoning behind what Nick did. First off, he used too much even still. He also, didn't lightly work it into the paint with a damp microfiber after a few minutes.
But the point of doing it that way is to remove and breakdown some iron and even into the crevices that its in, making it not only easier to remove with the clay towel but also LESS marring.
That is supposed to be the reason to do it that way.
I would love to see on a polished car... Black car, which introduced more marring.

I’ve seen you talk about using the gold standard to abrade an old coating before putting on a new coating. Would you use the red pad for that to maintain the best finish possible? Or would that not have enough cut

    • @diydetailofficial
      @diydetailofficial  5 месяцев назад

It will have enough cut. It really depends on whether you’re getting the desired visual finish at that point. If it looks good to you, great. If you’re wanting to go after some swirls at the same time perhaps you go for yellow waffle. Up to you

You are contacting panels with IRON infested clay mitt?? As said above, time is required to allow the dissolving iron areas to work and for the pressure of the water to remove, otherwise you are basically just cleaning the car with steel wool??? Just charge for the product you use as that is how it is intended to be used, and how it works 🤦🏻‍♂️
