Potential solution to Kia Sportage 7 speed DCT gearbox judder??

- This “trick” was used in the past on the earlier Kia Souls that had a DCT gearbox.
I have no idea if it forces the gearbox ECU to rediscover the bite points or if it just clears some glazing off the plates but it does seem to help.
Ive spent all day researching how to change the gear oil in my Hyundai Tucson 17 Diesel DCT 7 Speed gearbox. My driveway is on quite an incline and for some time ive suffered with the car juddering while pulling away in first gear. Happens everytime. Stumbled across this video, tried it, judder gone! Hopefully for good. Time will tell but instant fix for me. I left it 25 seconds for anyone interested. At 15 seconds, there way a noticeable drop in RPM before it recovered. Probably going to change the gearbox oil anyway as a preventative measure. Many thanks!
After 4 unsucessful trips to the Kia dealership, the last time the car was there for (7) weeks waiting for Kia to send their "field engineer", (driving a Kia loaner the entire time), their engineer concluded that the DCT was functioning "as designed". I got the car back from Ken Ganley Kia after it sitting there for 7 weeks, exactly the same as when I brought it in... You my friend are an AMAZING GUY!! I did exactly what you said, AND THE FREAKING PROBLEM IS GONE!!! We bought this car new in 2020, it only has 17500 miles on it and now it finally runs as it should... Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
I have a 2018 kia sportage I have found that ever second or third time I put diesel in car I have to put full bottle of redex in and problem goes away.. the issue is it's all too much for the 1.6 engine these cars need to be remapped to add more horsepower also the way the accelerator pedal is set is all wrong that needs to be on a sports car not a car like this.. all owners need to complain to kia like that they will be forced todo something because it's very dangerous
@@imrannabeel3930what does redex do for the transmission?
My question is how would you even know about how to sort out this issue ??are you a kia mechanic or just a whiz at gear box issues .I have a 23 plate 1.6 petrol mhev .put the box in sport mode and it changes up to 5 but won't go in 6 or 7 unless I flick the paddle switch .?? .then when slowing down it refuses to drop down gears it goes from 6 to 3 and obviously causes the engine to massively over Rev. It's Don 8000 miles and going in for 1st service in October .what do you thinks wrong 😢
Same experience with the dealer. They said it was fine, but if it got any worse, they'd replace the entire transmission. Sounds like this procedure works, will try it out in a day or so, 2018 Soul Exclaim with 50k miles.
Thanks a lot man! I have 2019 sportage 1.6t-gdi awd 7dct and this transmission was driving me crazy. It was fine for the first 2 years and then it because extremely juddery. I tried your solution and it made the transmission feel like new.
I have same problem. Like car is vibrating just from low revse. And start to go from second gear from 2km/h is driving me crazy😢
how can i fix the juddering ? i didint inderstand the video
Well well well. Optima 2017 DCT. This fixed the issue I was having. No more judder. Thanks so much.
how long did you kept it going on the kerb?
I did 20 seconds front and rear. I’ll report back if the judder returns but so much better now.
did the judder returned back?@@adyfcball7703
1 month since I did this truck and all remains good. No judder.
How about now ?
Thanks so much. I tried this today... It made a huge difference. The shifting has also improved drastically. Much appreciated
@@strinigovender-d1p awesome 🙌
what did he do ? i have juddering when shifting from D1 to D2 or when im on high road and im still on D2 and then accelerating it judders why ?
WOW WOW WOW!
Every time the season changes and those cold frosty morning arrive my dct starts slipping. Dealer had done a re-learn previously which helped for the sort time. Anyhow tried this today and to my surprise it actually seems to have worked. Time will tell for how long.
Thanks a million 👍
It’s been 6 months since your comment but I’ve got to know: how long did it last for?
@ G’day Dave good to see you following up 👍
Look honestly it’s going good. The DCT had developed some strange issues at random times which haven’t come back however I find these transmissions don’t like the cold weather so time will tell if the problems arise again.
What other feedback have you received?
Cheers
@ thanks for the reply, it’s been pretty positive
I don't know how but this works. Definitely could smell the clutch when I did it so it could be down to uneven wear which this helps or possibly realigns the clutch plates. I also had a rattle on start up which was definitely related and it seems to have helped that too.
Is it a dry clutch?
@@neiljustinealmenor8854 yep 👍
How you worked this out is actually genius will be trying this on my Sportage this with that has a judder. Will let you know if it helps thanks for the video 👍🏻
Did it helped?
Tried this and it worked on a Kia Niro, 2017 HEV. 2nd day and everything is working fine. I am hopping that this fix will last.
After one month and a half the issue is back and it's worse now. The car is plunging forward when downshifting on a slope and on a cold start, when trying to accelerate aggressively the shifting from first to second gear and second to third gear is followed by a bang noise. But this is a random occurrence. On some days it does it, on others it doesn't. :(
Desde nuevo tengo ese problema y hasta ahora leo este material. No encontré nada en español!
So, for the even gears, turn the car on, put on R, drive with the rear wheels against the curb, put it on P, turn car off, open door, close door, let the car go to sleep, foot on the break, turn car on, put on R and let the car for 15sec go against the curb, turn back to P, turn car off, that's it?
My hyundai i40 has the same gearbox and same "issue", sometimes it shutters, sometimes it doesn't. I noticed when I push the brake hard and let it go en press the throttle afterwards, the shuttering doesn't occur when I start moving forward. But I will try to do this trick!
How did you go?
I wonder if this would also work on the hyundai i30n line as they have the same power train as the kia.
Hey! I have a Kia that's currently in the garage. How did you come across this fix? Going to try it out soon!
Hey. I have this only in D when I let the car without pressing the gas pedal. What you suggest?
Thank you. It is work, how did you find this solution? :)
i got brand new 2024 kia sportage gen5 with 1.6t petrol engine and the 7dct does this.... WTF?
Does this work on a 23 plate mhev .and also how did you discover this "trick"????😮
No harm in trying 👍
Thanks for the video, so do you guys think it's a gear box issue at all? I haven't try this method yet .I'm having this issue with my kia gt line s 2019 juddering at start on 1st gear.i have booked a check up at kia let see what comes up.
It’s either glaze on the clutch plates or the ECU on the gearbox doesn’t learn the biting point correctly
Could this work for a Hyundai Tuscon? Aren’t Hyundai and Kia the same company with different skins? My stupid 2018 Tuscon does this since the 6 first 6 months I owned it (got it brand new)
@@rossgoldstein yep same car 👍
Is it dry clutch?
Yep, twin dry clutch setup
Hi thanks. What you mean with doing the even gear? I have the shuddering always in 2,4 gear. So ive to drive to the curb and do the same in 2. Gear?
One clutch does R, 2, 4,6 and the other does 1,3,5,7 so ideally do it in reverse (back to the kerb) and 1st (front to the kerb)
Okay so first drive to kerb in 1. Gear 15 sec and then drive around and back to kerb in R gear?
Sorry for my bad english ❤ I really need to know
? 😊
@@saifbaggio do it both ways until you stop seeing the rev counter / tachometer “waving”
I tried it on my Tuscan 2016, has the same transmission, tried it, but it did not work. Held it for around 15 sec not to wear the clutches that much. Hope this solution of yours still works on your vehicle
I have a kia and mine vibrates in idle for no reason, brought it to the shop and they said its normal. My fucking ass vibrates while I sit in that car. Any ideas?
Have you tried this? I’m gonna give it a go this week.
Never had a problem first few years but it gradually got worse. Mostly first start in the morning - reverse out, choose drive, press gas lightly, it tries to grab 1st and bucks randomly.
I often brake and go back to the gas as I don’t wanna break it.
Change the fluid to Amsoil fluid. Fixed all my issues
could you write index of amsoil fluid you used? or any link to product?
What were all the issues you were having? My list is too long
@@Hutchy86 slipping , weird shifts, hunting gears
@@thebeddoctor4273 same issues. Any issues now with the new fluid? I realise you said it has fixed all issues but says that was 3 months ago
These are dry clutch transmissions, fluid will make no difference
I did this about 6 months ago, improved the shift across all gears as it was riding the clutch a bit even in higher gears. Made the changes a lot quicker. In recent weeks it has started juddering in 1st, so will give it another go on the odd gears, see if it helps this! Hope so because Kia dealers are utterly useless...
Did it solved your problem with juddering in 1st gear?
Temporarily. Seems to need doing every month or so now. Cold weather seems to make the shift worse too.@@Zwittius
I just have a (clutch) judder during soft take off from a stop.
I did the solution from the video on my kia today. Hope it will help
@@NotRubensDadruh roh, I am going to try tempt fate and do a re-learn I think.... If I do, I will report back...
Mine has started slipping in 7th nowwhen under load, so it is looking like it's time to say bye bye to the car and a £2000 bill.@@AngryMarkFPV
No m8 that needs a recall
The car had the recall.. Kia are f***ing useless
