They may even just use the VA from the anime for all we know.
Jami Lee Curtis actually taking the role is my person "Canary in the Coal Mine", if she didn't care to take it as a fan chances are she saw problems with it. You could say it's about money but she already confirmed she'd like to take the role.
Yeah and also their list is more or less the most important actors for season 2 so they have to test a whole bunch to see if they fit with the current cast. If they're really making Robin Hispanic, that's a tiny trainwreck all on its own that bodes very, very poorly for the series. All of the race/gender swaps in season 1 were minor and made sense, this would just be a very deliberate, giant "fuck you" to a huge portion of the fan base that's just tired of seeing these changed made out of nothing but racism, just to please a loud minority of racist fans that fetishize a very minor skin tone error of a character in the anime while ignoring that she still very much has blue eyes.
From following Matt Owens and interviews he's done I wouldn't be surprised if the influence of the mistake Toei made with dark skinned Robin had a heavy influence on casting for her. I think Vivi should be fine, as long as she has a lighter complexion. Robin is the big question. (The anime doesn´t really help this situation.) I mean, I could see it working, if the actress still feels like Robin we know.
I still feel that Season 1 was way too rushed. You could have easily made the entirety of East Blue Saga into 2 seasons. The only issue is most people dont feel that One Piece comes into its own until the Arlong Arc and thats what season 1 felt like it was rushing its way to. Now that theyre going into season 2 theyre going to be taking their time suddenly? Outside of Little Garden and Drum Island, its not like the arcs of Logue Town, Reverse Mountain or Whiskey Peak are very long. Probably could do each of them in an episode each and leave 7 episodes to split up between the remaining 2 arcs. But if they arent putting out the casting call for these other big names it makes you wonder just how long theyll spend in places like Whiskey Peak or Louge Town...
Season 1 was totally fine... we don't need every little side story in the live action... and the mix they did with coby + garb chasing was actually very refreshing. Don krieg is NOT important at all as a villain as well, no reason to exist. I think season 1 was REALLY good and it could maybe be perfect with just 2 more episodes... but i really believe that 1 more season of east blue is COMPLETLY unecessary
Everyone's talking about ethnicity this, missing characters that, to which I'm fine with the casting so long as Vivi's is an Arab actress from the Mediterranean (Morocco most preferably, it fits the Alabasta setting) and Robin's is played by that famous fancasted girl who looks exactly like her, or any Latina actress that look and play her part well. Meanwhile, I'm worried about them skipping entire arcs completely from this Grand Line Saga: I mean, where's Dory and Brogy? I hope they don't skip Little Garden, it's vital to future plot of the story and foreshadows the future wins and character development of Ussop, as well as hinting to future events in the story. They just can't skip Dory and Brogy like they did with Chouchou from Orange Town or those two bounty hunter twins who accompanied the crew from Baratie to Arlong Park, Little Garden isn't like the Island of Forgotten Animals side quest that can simply be gutted out of the live action. I also worry about the pacing of the adaptation this season, I hope they don't overcompress so much and take the time to actually flesh out the characters, both our main cast and recurring and new characters. Instead of hurrying to Alabasta Arc, which should have it's own season (like it's the main focus for Season 3? It's the first "big arc" of the story after all), this Season should focus instead on their adventures before Alabasta, starting with Loguetown and their reunion with the Buggy and Alvida alliance, their meeting with Smoker and Tashigi, and then meeting Crocus and Laboon in Reverse Mountain, then to Whiskey Peak where Vivi is revealed and joins their crew, then to Little Garden to give Ussop a spotlight and a highlight to his character development where he gets better at his sniper/marksman and fighting skills against Baroque Works, and finally the show wraps up with Drum Island and Chopper as a conclusion, teasing Alabasta for a future season.

I think Season 2 should be the lead up to Alabasta because if 8 episodes are the limit again then they need to go through Loguetown, Reverse Mountain, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, and Drum Island. Season 3 should be exclusively Alabasta.

Nah, I think Season 2 would have Luffy defeat Crocodile, and Season 3 would be about Skypeia. The reason Season 2 starts with Logue Town was because they ran out of money for Season 1, and defeating Arlong was a much better ending to Season 1 than what happened at Logue Town. Might be cool if Season 2 ended the same way as the 4Kids dub.

Unless we're going to merge arcs again, this is the best way I can see this going down, and that does not give Alabasta the appropriate room to breathe.
Now this is just a theory with absolutely no grounds to stand on, but maybe the reason why Robin isn't going to be a Russian actor is because of the current war with Ukraine. When Russia did attack Ukraine, they were banned worldwide in many different fields, most notably sports, as athletes from Russia could only compete if they not associated with the country. So perhaps this is a similar situation, and Netflix isn't allowing it's directors to hire actors from Russia. But I might be wrong about that, so prove me wrong if I am.
This is probably a stretch, but I just watch a theory about Luffy's lineage, (I recommend watching it cuz it's 🔥) it talks about Luffy and Robin potentially being half siblings, then I recalled Netflix looking for a Hispanic woman for Robin, and Iñaki being Hispanic. 😂
I'm totally fine with all the casting. Vivi being from Middle eastern or North African or South asian.... makes total sense, as Alabasta kingdom has influences from many places from Egypt to Arabian peninsula to India. Peole arguing that Vivi should be caucasian are absurd as everyone in her place, her father, look west asian or south asian. Many people in these regions have fair skin, even though supposedly "brown skinned" people are supposed to live in these regions according to Western eye, as perpetuated by the Hollywood. So, accept it Vivi being a fair skinned charcter can be from South Asia or West Asia (middle East) or north Africa. Coming to Robin... I think choosing Latina is a good choice because many one piece fans only watched anime, and many of them are in pretimeskip. So, they only know the "tanned Robin" of anime who feels like a Latina. And many one piece fans generally prefer or like pretimeskip Robin design better. So, sticking to the Nationality Oda gave Robin (in one SBS) which majority of the general fans don't even know about, and making Robin Russian/caucasian will alienate all of them and at the same time can cause unnecessary controversies of whitewashing etc.., which is dangerous in today's "cancel culture" world. I think every one piece fan likes Robin's pretimeskip tanned cowgirl design, and basing the casting baaed on that is a wise choice, as that is beloved, even though that tan is due to the error of the artists in toei to begin with. (Robin originally has lighter skin in Manga color pages pretimeskip, anime changed it). But me whi consumed most of the one piece through anime, I prefer pretimeskip design, and I'm perfectly fine for it to be a Latina.

And also to avoiding conflicts. I feel the main problem to use Russian/caucasian actress will be from the section of one piece fans themselves who watch only anime and are in pretimeskip, they'll feel the character look is changed, which in fact is not the case from manga fan perspective. So, it's mainly to avoid this confusion. These confused one piece fans who don't know Oda sensei's SBS clarification will riot and start cancel campaigns which will be then picked up and escalated by the cancel mobs. It's not just political thing. It's because the original one piece fandom itself is divided by it due to Toei's coloring mistake. But, all that said, I feel this decision wouldn't be finalized without Oda sensei's approval, especially for strawhat casting. And I also trust Matt Owens the show runner, executive producer and head writter.

I still feel that Season 1 was way too rushed. You could have easily made the entirety of East Blue Saga into 2 seasons. The only issue is most people dont feel that One Piece comes into its own until the Arlong Arc and thats what season 1 felt like it was rushing its way to. Now that theyre going into season 2 theyre going to be taking their time suddenly? Outside of Little Garden and Drum Island, its not like the arcs of Logue Town, Reverse Mountain or Whiskey Peak are very long. Probably could do each of them in an episode each and leave 7 episodes to split up between the remaining 2 arcs. But if they arent putting out the casting call for these other big names it makes you wonder just how long theyll spend in places like Whiskey Peak or Louge Town...
Season 1 was totally fine... we don't need every little side story in the live action... and the mix they did with coby + garb chasing was actually very refreshing.
Don krieg is NOT important at all as a villain as well, no reason to exist.
I think season 1 was REALLY good and it could maybe be perfect with just 2 more episodes... but i really believe that 1 more season of east blue is COMPLETLY unecessary

Everyone's talking about ethnicity this, missing characters that, to which I'm fine with the casting so long as Vivi's is an Arab actress from the Mediterranean (Morocco most preferably, it fits the Alabasta setting) and Robin's is played by that famous fancasted girl who looks exactly like her, or any Latina actress that look and play her part well.
Meanwhile, I'm worried about them skipping entire arcs completely from this Grand Line Saga: I mean, where's Dory and Brogy? I hope they don't skip Little Garden, it's vital to future plot of the story and foreshadows the future wins and character development of Ussop, as well as hinting to future events in the story. They just can't skip Dory and Brogy like they did with Chouchou from Orange Town or those two bounty hunter twins who accompanied the crew from Baratie to Arlong Park, Little Garden isn't like the Island of Forgotten Animals side quest that can simply be gutted out of the live action.
I also worry about the pacing of the adaptation this season, I hope they don't overcompress so much and take the time to actually flesh out the characters, both our main cast and recurring and new characters. Instead of hurrying to Alabasta Arc, which should have it's own season (like it's the main focus for Season 3? It's the first "big arc" of the story after all), this Season should focus instead on their adventures before Alabasta, starting with Loguetown and their reunion with the Buggy and Alvida alliance, their meeting with Smoker and Tashigi, and then meeting Crocus and Laboon in Reverse Mountain, then to Whiskey Peak where Vivi is revealed and joins their crew, then to Little Garden to give Ussop a spotlight and a highlight to his character development where he gets better at his sniper/marksman and fighting skills against Baroque Works, and finally the show wraps up with Drum Island and Chopper as a conclusion, teasing Alabasta for a future season.
For Chopper they could just use whoever voices him in the English dub. They did a similar thing for Tails in the Sonic movies and that was fine

I think Season 2 should be the lead up to Alabasta because if 8 episodes are the limit again then they need to go through Loguetown, Reverse Mountain, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, and Drum Island. Season 3 should be exclusively Alabasta.
There isn't enough content in Alabasta to warrant an entire season. Please, be reasonable.

What they did for season 1 made sense to restructure the story to fit 8 episodes.
Since run time is a luxury, it makes little sense to waste time on characters that no longer appear in the source material.

I know that Vivi is white and all but I would love to see her as either an indian or saudi. Cuz you know, they have deserts and Alabasta’s traditional clothing fits the ethnicity. It kinda always bugged me how Vivi, despite living in a very hot country like Alabasta for majority of her life, is white as snow. They don't even give her a tan.
Why would we need a casting call for Tashigi? Just use the girl who played as Kuina. Fits perfectly with the story.
My bet is that 2 takes us to Alabasta. S3 will BE Alabasta, and tease the Sky Island.
Nah, I think Season 2 would have Luffy defeat Crocodile, and Season 3 would be about Skypeia. The reason Season 2 starts with Logue Town was because they ran out of money for Season 1, and defeating Arlong was a much better ending to Season 1 than what happened at Logue Town.
Might be cool if Season 2 ended the same way as the 4Kids dub.

Unless we're going to merge arcs again, this is the best way I can see this going down, and that does not give Alabasta the appropriate room to breathe.

Now this is just a theory with absolutely no grounds to stand on, but maybe the reason why Robin isn't going to be a Russian actor is because of the current war with Ukraine. When Russia did attack Ukraine, they were banned worldwide in many different fields, most notably sports, as athletes from Russia could only compete if they not associated with the country.
So perhaps this is a similar situation, and Netflix isn't allowing it's directors to hire actors from Russia. But I might be wrong about that, so prove me wrong if I am.

This is probably a stretch, but I just watch a theory about Luffy's lineage, (I recommend watching it cuz it's 🔥) it talks about Luffy and Robin potentially being half siblings, then I recalled Netflix looking for a Hispanic woman for Robin, and Iñaki being Hispanic. 😂
I'm totally fine with all the casting.
Vivi being from Middle eastern or North African or South asian.... makes total sense, as Alabasta kingdom has influences from many places from Egypt to Arabian peninsula to India.
Peole arguing that Vivi should be caucasian are absurd as everyone in her place, her father, look west asian or south asian. Many people in these regions have fair skin, even though supposedly "brown skinned" people are supposed to live in these regions according to Western eye, as perpetuated by the Hollywood. So, accept it Vivi being a fair skinned charcter can be from South Asia or West Asia (middle East) or north Africa.
Coming to Robin... I think choosing Latina is a good choice because many one piece fans only watched anime, and many of them are in pretimeskip. So, they only know the "tanned Robin" of anime who feels like a Latina. And many one piece fans generally prefer or like pretimeskip Robin design better. So, sticking to the Nationality Oda gave Robin (in one SBS) which majority of the general fans don't even know about, and making Robin Russian/caucasian will alienate all of them and at the same time can cause unnecessary controversies of whitewashing etc.., which is dangerous in today's "cancel culture" world.
I think every one piece fan likes Robin's pretimeskip tanned cowgirl design, and basing the casting baaed on that is a wise choice, as that is beloved, even though that tan is due to the error of the artists in toei to begin with. (Robin originally has lighter skin in Manga color pages pretimeskip, anime changed it). But me whi consumed most of the one piece through anime, I prefer pretimeskip design, and I'm perfectly fine for it to be a Latina.

@@julianhinck5455 true. I think the reason is both staying close to the "more popular version of Robin" rather than Manga version which many one piece fans also don't know. And also to avoiding conflicts.
I feel the main problem to use Russian/caucasian actress will be from the section of one piece fans themselves who watch only anime and are in pretimeskip, they'll feel the character look is changed, which in fact is not the case from manga fan perspective.
So, it's mainly to avoid this confusion. These confused one piece fans who don't know Oda sensei's SBS clarification will riot and start cancel campaigns which will be then picked up and escalated by the cancel mobs.
It's not just political thing. It's because the original one piece fandom itself is divided by it due to Toei's coloring mistake.
But, all that said, I feel this decision wouldn't be finalized without Oda sensei's approval, especially for strawhat casting.
And I also trust Matt Owens the show runner, executive producer and head writter.
