The sad part is... the message n wisdom Savatage so much wanted their fans to know n embrace .... alot of them didn't get it... some did.... some left.... but personally i know they didn't fail ... after all... it was their purpose before they ever started. Their lyrics n music have been written in the book of life. One could only hope to be a voice n light as they have been blessed n favored with.
These guys went from extreme metal having a soul changing experience in life that opened their eyes, heart, n soul to the truest meaning of life n understood what is important. They took that wisdom n expressed it while continuing as savatage. The fans who embraced and understood, went on growing with a brighter more beautiful soul. Savatage should be honored. I spent 11 yrs in prison for something i finally was cleared of. I Wouldn't have made it without them. N God
Not too many things on this planet,that can bring tears to my eyes,but I have to admit this 2 part song DOES!...My god...Savatage has a way of bringing out the best heart felt lyrics Ive evr heard in my life! LONG LIVE SAVATAGE! :-)

powerfull music. nothing more to say. when i am on my lowest point i lways listen to this music. i have the cd for years. My brother let me hear this song one time. And said 'listen to this sis its like they sing about you'

Probably the only band ever that could make a piano sound metal. Nothing sappy or bubblegum about Savatage. I have always loved these guys.

Absolutely. Gutter Ballet has the same effect on me. It's an absolutely moving song. Like somebody else said "it makes me want to bang my head, and cry, at the same time." \m/

Unforgettable 9 minutes - EVERY time!
In 96 when i was at high school ,i wrote a letter about believe and how my brothers band covers it in a small Turkish city Trabzon.Paul wrote me back then w his special paper and Sava envelope,i was literally shocked!! And when i saw the bands signed picks inside that envelope,imagine my reaction...
This song is one of the best rock songs out there, Savatage just do it for me.

SAVATAGE is a real special kind of HEAVY METAL they are 100% UNIQUE and 100% Talented. Too bad their music Record and their manager did not support them sufficiently. They deserved to be a famous and well known band as Metallica probably but atleast they got a shot at the life of a Heavy Metal RockStar. This will always be my favorite band of all time R.I.P. And it reminds me of The Hitchhiker's Guide TTG, where unfortunately, in the moment that girl thought of the answer to life, universe etc, the earth was blown up...;-)

@moatazabaza dude that was the best comment i have seen. there is so many different takes on this masterpiece. I was lucky enough to meet the band back in the day. This was 1 of the best shows i have seen in my 39 years of life
I heard this song for the first time last year at the Philly show, and heard it for a second time this year on 11/21. I really liked Hockenberry's version. You're right, I started to look around for the original, this is special.

Best album ever made Jon is a genius. and chris was a wizard. This album moved me and shit more then any other, and I am a huge Dio and Nazareth fan.Glad I was able to share a beer with them after a gutter ballet show. AWESOME!

i worked at a cabinet shop next door to their jam spot on lois ave in tarpon springs.we used to jam over there. 1989-1991

@Youthinkyoucanplay Streets was released in 1991 and Criss died at oct. 17 1993,
so he toured in support of this album but also made an other one" Edge of Thorns" also Believe i have read was one of his favourite songs hence it shares some lyrics with Alone you Breath which is a song written about him after his death by his brother the great Jon Oliva. What a masterpiece this is... the solo and the lyrics are beyond describing in any fucking words....
Sorry: I wouldn't call myself a true Metaler - I however like Savatage a lot! It's simply great music with deep lyrics.
Perhaps I should thank my oldest friend who introduced me to their music :)

There is a cover version on TSO's "Night Castle". Jon's version is superior, but maybe it will make people look for the original after hearing TSO's version.

Someone said fuck Jesus, just a name, then they pinned the man to a cross and made us look up, to an icon, a man bleeding for his sins, a cruel reminder of the world we share, and some with pageant pride worship this relic so that the pain is somehow forgotten, inside their self and now the reflection is on the man on the cross, baring our pains and our sins, and we forget Jesus is just a name, the soul is pure and it already knows. The soul is the truth. I think the holy spirit is alive as long as you believe in it, make it real, realize it. No lie in the soul truth.

Jon has nothing to do with TSO anymore...
Caffery's a HUGE part of TSO though, along with Skolnick [temporary member; Handful of Rain]
Plate ["new" drummer] was pulled from TSO.
Johnny Lee of course as well, he's on the east coast section of TSO with Caffery and co.
Oh, I almost forgot Pitrelli, he was pulled into the 'Tage from TSO similar to Jeff... He's lead guitars on the west.
Jon only did the keyboards for a couple of their songs, but never plays with them live that I've seen...
