Hey John. Glad to see another video! Nice intro btw. You quickly put things into perspective.
Thanks... I wrote that song with a band we had back in the day. That’s me on 🥁 drums.
FYI: I poured all four samples into one dram and let it marry...delightful velvet grape juice and leather. Easily hit the 91 mark!
The audio is much better on this one than your review from Jan haha. Thanks for the insightful review!
Yes... after my first few I bought a microphone
Thank you John, there was so much hype about the 2019, it is so great to hear the acknowledgement of the 2020 bottling also having the older whisky in it and I think you have proved that with your water test. This is the first video of yours I have seen, so I'm looking forward to catching up on your other videos!! Subscribed and liked!! Cheers 😁👍👍
Thanks for the support. The Words of Whisky age chart is widely accepted as factual but not official...but it does appear possible that the earlier 2020 could have the older juice as well( June or earlier)... but don’t know about later year 2020 bottlings?
Good review, its just whisk(e)y after all .
Nice review
Love the Glenallachie 10 batch 3, got a bottle open at the moment, delicious!!
I did a blind tasting with a buddy. We agreed that the 2019 was very slightly hardier than the 2020. Not a big deal. Thanks for the video. I’m glad now that I didn’t go overboard with a case on the 2019.
There could be another later batch 2020( after June) bottling that I’m not aware of? That might lean more toward a true 18 yr expression? In my opinion the 2019 release and June 2020 could become coveted in the future especially if they start chill filtering and the like but at present the prices are rising with the hype albeit a well deserved hype. IMHO
2020 June batch is still old juice.
The very review I wanted to see! About 2 weeks ago I opened a 2019 (Nov. 27th) bottle and a 2020 (June 1st) bottle, and the 2020 seems rather closed, woody, and slightly astringent. It is definitely less rich and open than the 2019. I'll give them more time as I hope the 2020 will open up. For now I would give the 2019 a 91 and the 2020 maybe an 88.
Interesting... I found they both opened up nicely after couple months. Thanks for sharing your experience. Very helpful indeed.
@@justwhisky Thanks,, I'll give the 2020 more time..
I have a suspicion that someone has recently watched a Ralphy video 😋 the guy is a legend at this point.
Ralfy is the best!.... but I released this show before his latest Glendronach announcement.
@@justwhisky lol apologies! I just noticed it in my sub box this morning and figured it was brand new. You have a great attitude and perspective. Its just whisky, folks!
What a wonderful review. Thank you! Glendronach 18 is getting hyped more and more.... It seems Glendronach is following the track of Macallan... Have you ever tried Billy Walker's recent touch, Glenallarchy? If so, which one do you prefer?
I am enjoying the Glenallachie 10 cask strength batch3. My understanding is they are improving with each subsequent batch... as batch 5 just won best whisky of the world... albeit a tall order
Have had both the 2019 and 2020, but try the 2016 bottling. I personally think it is the best of all the GD18 bottlings to date.
Interesting... I don’t have that bottling
Did you seriously start the jingle manually? :)
(digitize it and make a mp3 and add it to your video).
Anyway, very interesting comparison, thanks.
Very perceptive... I don’t do any editing... old school I guess
Hi John, As a newbie, where do I found out the year of bottling? Bottle, box? I have a Glendronach 12 recently purchased and it's NCF, unlike the chill filtered versions they now make. Thanks.
Most bottles have a laser code usually on the bottom of the back of the bottle. Can be hard to see but try tipping the bottle into light or use flashlight.
@@justwhisky thanks John
For me it was night and day 2019 was much better whiskey
Curious if your 2019 has Rachel Barrie name on back label or Billy Walker?
As my understanding there are more than one bottling per year. Mine has Rachel’s name.
In reality, you just compered 24 Y VS 18 Y. and as for me, they are totally different.
There is ambiguity as to when the 2020 bottling became the new juice(aka true 18yo). There is good chance as other commenters have pointed out that early 2020 bottles are effectively 24yo. No way to verify though apart from your own experience. I have 2019 and a June 2020 bottle. You cannot distinguish the colour, which if it were 6 yrs older, it would have made a difference
Those 18s are the last of a wonderful run. Those older 15s and now the 18s are going to be missed. Prices have indeed gone up. I paid once $90 for one. My last one was $150!
If you were going to get for free 3 different bottles of sherry. All currently available. Each, not more than say $160. What would those 3 bottles be for you?
Honestly I think that could be better answered by Alan @ The Whisky Friend as he is a big sherry guy. Although I can appreciate any quality whisky I favor more peated expressions.. having said that the short answer might lean toward Bunnahabhain or Glenallachie
@@justwhisky bunnahabhain is great. Although finding the 18 is a task
