It's not a easy thing. The software that I used was 3ds Max for modeling and After Effects to join everything and some... after effects. First learn how to model, then rigging. You need a very good computer to render these things fast.
MMD is the baby mode of animation software. It's not a bad idea to start with it and once you get good with it, move on to SFM and do some sweet stuff.
Wish they make a phone game like Pokemon go for medabots that would be epic to watch were you can connect with the 2 person battling and hipe up things ✌😎😁
All it need a little bit of pation and creativity. There's plenty of videos on RUclips where you can learn. Plus, a robot is one of the most easiest things to do. Good luck.
