      What makes u think u are a conservative if an idea makes it clear to you that he is familiar to the hurdles of future? Companies don't need people in the future!!!! Maybe u should check ur political stance!!!!! Democrats and Republicans have changed!!!

      PS... yang ran for president in 2020. Y haven't u heard of him yet? I would bet money that he would have been in bidens spot if 2 party agenda was not in the way. USA needs moren parties and a different voting style in the future.... need more then 2 parties!!!!

      I am not a conservative, but there are certain aspects of the progressive agenda I will gladly throw under the buss to see Yang's vision made real. Maybe I am not a "real progressive," and maybe you are not a "real conservative," I have started politically identifying as Yang Gang these days.

      Yang is a progressive. He wants to progress the evolution of the nation. All the people of the nation mostly the poor!!! Conservatives want to stop minorities from voting so they keep rich taxes low. I think u may be confused...

    I hope you win & are able to do this. Like it or not ubi is will come into play in the near future, we need to start understanding what the macro effects would be of a ubi. Pilot program like this will go a long way in such understanding.

      UBI will worrrrrrkkkk!

  • @physicsguy877
    @physicsguy877 3 года назад +8

    the fact that the cash relief is NOT being used as a replacement for other aid is what makes this a good proposal. Using UBI to replace other forms of welfare was what made me skeptical of Andrew Yang during his presidential run, so I'm glad that's not part of this proposal right now. Keeping both UBI and other forms of welfare elevates people out of poverty instead of merely replacing one benefit with another that might not be as good.

    • @esotericVideos
      @esotericVideos 3 года назад

      Even during his presidential campaign it was an opt in program, so if you were happy with your current aid, you wouldn't have to do anything and nothing would change. But if you would get more from the UBI, or you just didn't like the bureaucracy of the programs you were involved in you could opt-in.
      Either way, I'm glad you are interested. Andrew Yang is really just a normal person who wants to help people as best he can.

    • @physicsguy877
      @physicsguy877 3 года назад

      @@esotericVideos Even with opt-in it was still replacing one program with another while simultaneously raising the spending capacity of people who aren't poor, plus a nationwide vat tax which also hits the poor harder, so it wasn't clear at all that it would raise people out of poverty. Additionally, people might feel pressured to switch even if it's not as good in the long run because when you're poor you feel the pressure to get cash immediately.

    • @esotericVideos
      @esotericVideos 3 года назад

      @@physicsguy877 The VAT was going to have exceptions for essentials. So it was going to hit Amazon a billion times harder than it would hit the poor. And it wasn't a replacement because it was opt-in. He wasn't removing the old programs, he simply knew admin costs on those programs would go way down because who would take 200 a month in means tested food stamps over 1k UBI?
      During the campaign some opponents mischaracterized it, but it was actually quite a well thought out plan that would help everyone especially the poor and really only cost people like Amazon. Who are already aren't paying federal taxes.

    • @physicsguy877
      @physicsguy877 3 года назад

      @@esotericVideos Rest assured, I've actually done my homework on this.
      All a VAT tax is is a tax that's taken out in stages each time value is added to a product along its production cycle, and this means two things
      1) At the end of the production cycle, when you consume the product, the tax can be reflected in an increased price because companies can easily pass it on. There's no magic rule that prevents this. In fact, you used to be able to get some reimbursements after buying things in the Europe because the USA didn't think the EU VAT should hit American tourists. It's not a tax on Amazon. It's a tax on you.
      2) Because VAT taxes each part of the production cycle, it can't easily be limited to luxury items because the metal that's used to build a yacht, for example, is the same metal that goes into paperclips.
      Also, for the last effing time, people understand* he wasn't planning on getting rid of any social safety nets. But if you offer someone a choice between one safety net and another, then for that person it either means no change or a replacement. On the whole then, you are modestly improving the social safety net for some, making it worse for others who may not know how to take the best deal, and increasing everyone else's spending at the same time which further weakens the help given to the poor. UBI might make sense to establish a floor, but it barely changes the floor for the poor if you they only get it as a replacement for what they are using currently.
      It's far from obvious that this would help raise anyone out of poverty. No, Greg Mankiw did not "endorse" Andrew's plan; he merely gave a talk where he explained how two economic plans that look different can be equivalent when you take taxes and welfare into account, which is obvious. I really don't want to have to go through each one of these ridiculous arguments that just won't die one more time. It's also far from obvious that he isn't pushing this as a way to eventually gut the social safety net entirely, which is why he gains the support of libertarians.
      The Yang Gang might be the most presumptuous and ill-informed bunch I've ever talked to. They always take this attitude of "educating" others out of their misinformed views, meanwhile it is they* who are misinformed. Rest assured, my pretty little head has thought about this stuff, and I haven't been lead astray by meanies who just don't like Yang, because how could anyone not like Yang? Well, maybe it's because using some econ 101 terms doesn't make you the 2nd coming of Christ, and saying "math" and "data" doesn't make your ideas intelligent.

    • @esotericVideos
      @esotericVideos 3 года назад

      @@physicsguy877 I'm sorry you've had a bad experience with some people. I for one, and most people who like Yang generally try hard not to be adversarial. I disagree with your estimations on how these things would impact the poor. As amazon is always cutting prices, and so the idea that a tax on companies is 100% going to be passed to the consumer simply does not make sense to me. VAT takes from big companies and those who spend a lot on luxury items. IMO It is the closest we can get to a simple way to tax the benefits of automation. Automation whose cost is clearly already negatively affecting the poor.
      Also as we see with food stamps, it is quite possible to distinguish between essentials and not.
      I'm sorry if you felt condescended to, that was not my intent. I simply respectfully disagree with your interpretation of the policies, their impact, and likely the motives you attribute to Yang. I believe he is a man who is legitimately pursuing the plans he thinks are most likely to work, and while people can disagree with that assessment of his plans efficacy, I don't think it's accurate to attribute anything malicious to him.
      I respect you and your opinion, and again apologize if anybody in the "Yang Gang" ever came on strong and talked to you in a rude or condescending way. Part of moving past old politicians is moving past the old decisive hostile rhetoric. And so my goal was to disagree respectfully, but I truly apologize if any of it came across as rude.
