  • Ontario Parks is clamping down on long stays (in excess of 7-14 nights at many campgrounds). We examine the rules and the parks affected. Will it make it easier to book your favorite site? Or will it cause chaos at the gate with so many people checking in/out?

I am in Alberta and have a slightly similar problem but I believe the parks should charge the full rate for no-shows and not just forfeit the booking fee

might be a good idea. Could even create some extra revenue for the parks. That said, still would have challenges to work out. I feel like there would need to be a fair way of dealing with reasonable circumstances for people not showing up.

What about opening up new parks?

I, too, have observed it many campsites remain vacant, although the website indicates that they are reserved. I strongly believe that the rule of fail to arrive by 8 AM the following day the site should be forfeited. There are, however, instances where people may have had a breakdown or a medical emergency, that need consideration which could be considered by the staff at the gate if contacted prior to the 8 AM deadline. I also think there should be a greater penalty for those that book a greater number of days with the intention of only staying a few.

Well were all in luck. The governments now involved. And they are here to help....They are here to systematically tear it apart. Little by little. If your not on their list of "followers", than you may never get a campsite. and they can blame it on the huge 2 million camping lovers who JUST got there ahead of you. but please keep trying. From your friendly government.

This is a great idea. I don't get why people don't just book the nights they need. There should be penalties for no shows as an added deterrent. The camping season is short enough without people leaving camp sites empty that could have been filled.

I think one of the issues is someone who wants to stay for a few nights will book 23 nights to get the date and site they want. Than after a month after booking cancel the nights they don’t need. They pay a penalty but it gets them the reservation they want. It ties up sites unnecessarily.

I think it's a good idea, do I think it will make it easier to book, not at all but atleast they are trying. I don't know anyone that camps for 23 nights at one site.the most I've ever done was 8 nights and that was enough. They need to review cancelations etc. They need to look at cancelation patterns of campers, does someone regularly book 7 night but only stays for 3 booking early to get the site they want with no intension of using all the nights. I think they need to open some new parks, upgrade non power sites to power that would be a start. Anyway good video and hope your camping this season was good.

Agree lots of other options. No doubt people will find a way to cheat or work out a loophole. Thanks for watching!
