    This is so helpful! I never went camping at an Ontario park before but booked a site this month. I was worried because I have no idea what to expect. Although Im not going to Pinery this gave me an idea about washroom, checkin process, getting water, activities and etc. Thanks so much! This def is the best video I came across!! 👍🏻

      Well ,there is a time limit ,& you can't gather wood , but outside the park you can get 5 days worth for $6.00 the down side is the cheapest sites are $40.00 pr night (even if you're over 65 .) I was here when it was $5.00 per night ., so I can tell you overall it's worth it !

    Big thumbs up , you nailed it .I 've been coming here for 40 yrs, plus . Another interesting fact is there are 9 seperate beaches from the campgrounds ! Day use people can use these ,or anyone for that matter . In june, or september, you can have solitude or company as you wish . It get's better ., in the beach areas, if it's at all sunny , you can find dead air space between dunes that you can suntan in,in october ! As far as privacy in campsites , you just have to look closely at the resevation sytem , & you will find privacy as you need it . I have been a solitary camper here for 27 years.The town of Grandbend & a drive in theater ,& a dragway motoplex is a short distance away ., as well as wood at one tenth the price of what the park is asking. It's southern ontario's best kept secret.!

    That's a really good tour of the park, it really helps people to make a decision about what park to go to, if they are unfamiliar with it.
    Do yourself a favour though - stop at a Dollar Store and get yourself a plastic tablecloth. You have no idea what horrible gross things some uneducated campers may have had on the table before you got there. I've seen sewer hoses, dirty diapers, doggy poop bags, among other things. If you get a cheap one from the dollar store, you can even throw it away after your trip is done.

    Thanks for the vid. Can you share how's the poison ivy condition there? It says poison ivy when booking the sites. I got kids that touch everything they see and sometimes lick them, lol so I want to know. Thanks

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  2 года назад +1

      From what I remember, I remember spotting a lot of them around many of the trails. They have great signs that educate campers about what to look for but I know that won't help with the kids. At the campsites, they weren't as dense but I am pretty sure I saw a few here and there so you'll definitely have to be careful and canvas your campsite area if you end up going.

    Amazing vid-just subbed! I’m planning a day visit there in a few weeks-any advice for reservation and picking a beach?

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  3 года назад +1

      Sorry for the delay in replying! Thanks for watching. So reservations for day trips are pretty tight because of the demand so I’d suggest jumping on it as soon as your day becomes available. They go out quickly. If you can weekdays are obviously the best not only to snag a reservation but the park being a lot quieter. For the beach if you’re on the public side I actually found the side of the beach that connects to the Wilderness Trail to be nice and quiet but you’ll need to walk there from Beach 9. Hope that helps!

    Paying nearly $130 for 3 nights of camping still to me seems insane for camping in Ontario when I normally I can camp in Michigan for under $60 for the same number of nights and have more privacy. That being said I may check this park out for some hammock camping with my daughter since it is still so difficult to travel. Are most sites in Dune 3 good for a pair of hammocks?

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  3 года назад +1

      Yeah I hear ya, makes you want to just camp on crown lands or like you said go to Michigan. And yes Dunes Area 3 is great for hammocks. There are tall trees you can set them up. Every site is different but you’re bound to have at least 2-3 trees to work with.

    Do not go here the caterpillar are a big problem here I book 2 separate stays June 2021 and July 2021 went the first day left before we can finish setting up caterpillar by the thousand all over our belongs and my suv was covered falling from trees onto your head etc. Beautiful park but im skipping this year until the caterpillar are gone everyone was pissed at every campsite. Don't say I didn't warn you guys. Thanks

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces

      Hey Richard, thanks for your thoughts here! I went during this period as well and it's true that this year Gypsy Moths were pretty out of control. They occur every 7-10 years and I knew to expect them because it was also bad in Toronto. Ontario Parks also made sure we acknowledged the fact that we were booking during Gypsy Moth season (they call it LDD Moth Infestation) so we knew what we were getting into. Of course, we didn't realize how crazy it would be (lol don't even get me started on how we had to swat caterpillars all day at camp). The good news is that this year's period is over July 26, 2021 and it shouldn't be happening again for awhile.
