  • Assistant Immigration Minister Matt Thistlethwaite says the misinformation bill is to ensure Australians are accessing “good quality media”.
Public submissions for the Albanese government’s misinformation bill will end on Monday.
The laws include a number of measures, including targeting false and misleading online content, as well as allowing the media watchdog to penalise social media.
“All we’re ensuring is that the online platforms have similar codes of practice and policies in place to ensure they’re publishing the correct and true information,” Mr Thistlethwaite told Sky News Australia.
“It’s ensuring that Australians are getting access to good quality media.”
