I read this comment both before and after watching the video and it drastically changed how I read it lol.
Can we talk about "Your excellency, they burned your whole palace" real quick? Already very deep but there's a lot more to it. Washington specifically said that people should call the president "Mr. President" so that he was not treated like royalty in order to help establish the republic. The fact that they called Madison "your excellency" and referred to the White House as a "palace" shows how fed up they are with Madison. He's being childish asking about his library(without asking how his wife was, might I add) and these people were fed up with how self-absorbed he was. So much so, that they compared him to a king, whom they vehemently hated! Truly badass!
Hah hilarious! Love that!(Fuckin’ Madison)
Oh! Thanks for that context!
@Humble beginnings invaded is definitely the wrong term considering the americans were the ones who lived in the colony. if anything you invaded your own colonies in an attempt to stop a succession which was a response to tyrannical rule by the monarch. you were massacring citizens for no reason at all commiting war crimes left and right before the revolutionary war even broke out.
That was even Quaker Shade. So, it's even more shade considering you killed a Quaker's patience.

George Washington was a good president, til one day he said:
“I’m tired, I want to go home.”
And Richard Nixon kinda. He grew up in the town I live in so I have basically memorized that museum.
Not presidents but David Cameron and Theresa may bottled it
Jean Deibert
I’m sorry, it’s the wrong war to reference this, and I know HE was dead at this point, but.
“One last time... teach em how to say goodbye”
"Be our king!"
George: "No."
"Stay and be president till you die!"
George: "No. I want to grow tobacco and command my modest amount of slaves."
Actually, George Washington was like “I’m tired and want to go sit under my trees.”

C.o.R (Lex) omg😂 I was gonna quote Hamilton than I saw this comment
just to clarify, "dinner" was, at the time, the word they used for "lunch" and they commonly would eat later in the afternoon then we do now. So, what we consider "dinner" today, they called "supper"
Here in Wales we still call it supper
They had tea in the UK
Thank you, I was hoping one of them knew that, but nobody said anything
Actually dinner was, and still is, defined as the main meal of the day.
It is just a cultural shift that that meal is now supper (the evening meal) and was the midday meal then. Not just a synonym for lunch. I would guess the cost of lighting to illuminate a large evening meal was part of the reason the midday meal was the main one. Eating a smaller meal wouldn't require the ceremony and associated lighting in the dark.

It was so funny to watch them all know nothing about this war... As a Canadian, I learned about this war pretty much every two years in elementary school
I'm also Canadian and learned about this war a few times in history class, and one history teacher told us "If you ever ask an American about this war they probably won't know anything because Americans want to deny that it ever happened"
@@hollymathews3264 lmao I'm an American and I deadass didn't know that the White House ever burned down. I wish they would teach this in school, it's kind of important.
We don't learn about wars where we weren't a clear winner, like Vietnam, Korea, anything in the middle east, etc etc. Just the Revolution, WW I & II, and the Civil War (not sure what they learn about that one in the south though).
@@hollymathews3264 We went over it when I was in middle school. It was taught that we burned York, the British burned D.C.- and then the Battle of New Orleans happened after the treaty had been signed, with both forces unaware.
American here. Learned about it briefly in middle school, talked about the impressment, White House burning down, George Washington’s portrait being saved, star spangled banner, Native Americans having to pick sides (from what I remember).
High school ed. had slightly more but mainly focused on how afterwards America was taken more seriously as an independent nation.

The war started in 1812, but ended in 1814 with the events described here.
Broadway Bri 31 actually in 1815 was the battle of New Orleans where Andrew Jackson only lost 71 men while killing 2,000 British soldiers
@@Coolgiy67 Actually the peace had already been signed and so technically the battle of New Orleans isn't part of the war of 1812, but just a random fight. Although both forces involved were unaware the war was over so in that sense yes
Josiah Coney yah I would say it is apart of the war because that’s what the 2 sides were fighting for. But I see what you mean cause the war had ended like a month before the battle took place lol so everyone died for no reason basically.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Laura Secord in this. She was a Canadian during 1812 who's the reason the British forces were able to push the American troops out of their territories. Story goes, while she was living in a section of now-Canada that had been recently taken over by America's army, she overheard a bunch of soldiers boasting about a secret upcoming attack against the British army that would gain them the rest of Upper now-Canada (in their defence, the soldiers were drunk and had been in her house at the time, eating her food). Upon hearing this, Secord proceeded to trek through 20 miles of enemy territory (with her cow in some versions), and managed to outrun the American army and warn the British to get their butts into gear for the surprise attack that was coming their way. Because of her, the British were able to prepare their forces and managed to push the Americans out of now-Canada completely. Sources vary, but some people believe that if it was not for her, America might have won 1812, and Canada as a country would not exist today.
So a bunch of American a-holes were being cocky and a pain and it bit them in the butt hard. Yeah that checks out.

Albert Gallatin was the US Treasurer: politician, diplomat, ethnologist and linguist. He was born in Geneva and spoke French as his first language.
@@KevinHandydfw Hamilton was the treasury secretary
@@lilhinata_02 You are 100% correct EXCEPT during the James Madison administration the Treasury Secretary was Gallatin. Hamilton served from September 11, 1789 - January 31, 1795. Gallatin served Jefferson and Madison from May 14, 1801 - February 8, 1814*. Hamilton was our very first and that's a fact. But he was the first. Not the present at the time of the burning nor the intervening Treasury Secretaries either.
Treasury: Gets burned down
Hamilton's Ghost: *Darth Vader NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!*
Eliza was still alive at this time so part of me likes to believe she secretly was like "yes.. this is what you get for writing the reynolds pamphlet.."
@@terrorhighway4157 Oh my fucking godsasdfghjmnefndfs
"missiles" were known and used at that time ( not in a massive way because of the imprecision of its use ) , but were like modified big fireworks, made to fall on enemies formations.
I was wondering exactly what they were like, I still can't find out exactly how they were made and what they're comparable to from today. I do know that even small fireworks are effective weapons and are terrifying and destructive to be attacked with even in modern times and even where houses aren't made of wood. I imagine this is roughly what it would have been when they were flying over Madison's head ruclips.net/video/HZM-OC0p9us/видео.html
I wanna know who edits these videos and then marry them

It saddens me this series is from 2 years ago, I want more of this so bad
fun fact: dolly actually ordered a fifteen year old black slave to save it and then she frickin bolted. a Frenchmen tried to help but then other servants, that were saving stuff bc dolly just grabbed silverware and ditched, ran in to the burning White House and told the Frenchmen and 15 year old Paul Jennings that the British were like ten miles out.
so then, the French servant just left along w other slaves while Jennings had decided to break the frame to save the canvas.
Dolly saved herself w these “letters” and the Madison family had a painting made to portray dolly all elegant and fancy and on the left side there’s Jennings but he looks like a middle aged man instead of the 15 yr old he was
The British after burning the White House: *have s’mores (if time)*
The British don’t eat s’mores
JackSmithson alas I am mistaken. The brits do not have s’mores, though I’m sure they would enjoy them
and.rosie we do have s'mores
and.rosie and they are delightful
JackSmithson The fat commander says *Y O U A R E W R O N G*
I love how for ‘insults’ hurled at him, the animator put vegetables pelted at the president
“The people that took him in were obviously dummy’s any way!” As a Quaker I admire those people for upholding our values
Please continue with this series or I'll be very woebegone

Awesome TWINS!!!
ya boi I said woebegone to my English teacher and she didn’t know what it meant and was going to ask other English teachers at my school but forgot what the word was.
#BringBackWoebegone
"We were born of idiocy." -truer words have never been spoken
and the tradition continues today! What a shock LOL
You should definitely bring these episodes back cause if these were around when I took History in school I would've taken a crap ton less naps.
This is my new favorite you tube show!! I’m learning and I am laughing! This is wonderful!
You should talk about the Three Hundred and Thirty Five Years' War, which was an alleged theoretical state of war between the Netherlands and the Isles of Scilly. Read about it, it's hilarious.
Aiden Rose Grey yes that one:)
Bahahaha that is hilarious
JustSarah the Isles of Scilly are part of Britain, it was a result of the English Civil war. The Royal Navy were on the Parliamentarians side therefore Charles’ attempts to gain support from European countries failed. The Dutch engaged the Royal
Navy off the Isles of Scilly and lost a treaty was signed in 1985z
