Generally pretty good, but I sometimes wonder if I’m reading so much because I genuinely want to or because I’m constantly trying to get through my current read so I can pick up ALL THE THINGS. Lately I’ve been trying to find ways to take that pressure off myself and simplify more. It sounds like you’ve found a great balance!
@@SamDCote I’ve read more books so far this year than in the past. Part of it is due to listening to audio books while at work. I know some people don’t count audit books, but I see it as a personal preference. Another reason I read more than the normal amount of books is a list. At the beginning of the year I made a list of books I wanted to read in 2023. It helped me to focus. After I completed the list, I started reading more random selections I come across. I should be making a list for 2024 soon. This has given me a sense of satisfaction of finally getting around to books I’m been meaning to read due to lack of focus.
Very reflective and thought provoking, especially since a lot of booktube is fixated on reading as much as they can (of which I am also guilty). I may need to rethink my 2024 reading goals
Hey Sam, wow a very well thought out video that definitely got me thinking. Reading to me has always been enjoyable and has always been another form of entertainment. (Including Dr. Who, superheroes, James Bond etc. ) You make a very valuable point regarding wanting to read as a part of your life and not to use it as an escape from your life. It should definitely, in my opinion, enrich your life and not consume or replace something in your life that you are not happy with. My constant goal with reading is to read at my own pace, enjoy the process of reading, and not have it consume me as to the number of books I am reading. It is easy to be intimidated from the individuals in the reading community that post something like “I read 26 books during the month of October.” Geez, it should not be a contest. I continue to try to view reading as something that I enjoy, it’s a great form of entertainment, and to go at my own pace and just enjoy the fun of reading. It is not a contest as to how many books I read and the type of books I read. Reading is reading and should not be judged as a contest for either quantity or quality. I hope this makes sense. Thank you for your content. As always very well thought out, professional, enjoyable and relatable. As my father used to say for people he enjoyed you are a good egg. BTW I enjoy your playlists too. I share some songs with my wife. ✌️📚
Thanks for the thoughtful response, Gary-- well put! I totally agree-- it definitely shouldn't be a contest, and everyone has a pace that works best for them. Documenting my own changing relationship with reading has been very satisfying to me! Glad that you're finding a way of reading that's fun and healthy for you-- don't let people online distract you from what's best for you! Thanks for watching as always :)
How do you feel about the amount you're reading at the moment?

Something you said was an epiphany for me: I read fiction to escape and I read nonfiction to improve myself. Nothing wrong with either.
They each have their time and place! Totally agree
