- An introduction to the Jungle Loop Line, it's uses and how to configure it as a Swiss Seat, for use an an abseil harness.
This video was put together as a response to requests asking for more information about the Loop Line, following my Layer 2: Fight video.
Marvellous video. Made a right pig's ear of it with my girlfriend, we're both pensioners but discovered a new form of bondage. She's still dangling and loving every minute. Many thanks from us both. Cheers. P.S. seriously love the videos

Mors used lampwick and later mule tape in a lot of his videos, maing snowshoe strapping from it, tape has a lot of uses. if got 2 long lengths of green nylon tape with loops on that I mostly use as hammock attachments, but i have used as a swiss seat once as well.
.Neat video memories...I've given that instruction before, lol just not with tape line we used cut twisted repel line.
Nice one for that I learnt how to do this in scouts but forgot how to doit. Also I came across a piece of webbing like that in a job lot of kit never knew wat it was for time to dig it out me thinks
Most informative Tom, but very complicated.
In all the time we had the toggle rope we only used it for river crossing safety, and of course it was much shorter and needed many connected lines in some cases.
I am very surprised you used the Swiss seat, we were taught to use a loop of about six feet. Double it up and pass around the body holding the two loops of the ends at the front centre of the body. Allow one of the doubled lines to drop between the legs at the back and draw it up between the legs to the front and connect all three loops with the K. We abseiled on that K by passing the rope twice through it as the friction lock.
Did that loads of times and it only took twenty seconds to set up

Absolutely. I still have a 2m tape for exactly that. More useful than the old toggle rope :)
Roger, tbh this doesn't take long once you've done it a few times. Yes we used just a karabiner to abseil with too sometimes, in the same way you mentioned.
Similar to the old toggle rope system we used back in the late 70's but the webbing strap is a lot longer than the rope 👍🏻
Roger, it's basically a modern version of the toggle rope.
@@PreparedPathfinder the toggles ropes were rumoured to be used by commandos for strangling the enemy in WW2, I asked my SAS chap about it, he said "thats soudns about right, the commandos were a bunch of murderers" lol

Great video, thanks for sharing that. Where can you get hold of jungle loops? Doesn't seem to be readily available.
No idea mate, l was issued mine.
The come up on eBay occasionally, but KitMonster usually has a few in stock
SOF used to make one from black nylon webbing, not sure if they stock them now thou, but a lot cheaper then you'd get em off of eBay. Genuine ones usually go for about the £30 mark if you can find em ( seem to be very Ally nowdays.) Luckily I still got my issued one too.
Excellent tutorial Tom. Did a little bit of repelling with a swiss seat. Not the most comfortable but definitely handy. Where do you source one of those loop lines and what jacket is that?

I was issued the loop line mate. The jacket is an Arcteryx LEAF Alpha Gen 1. Cheers 👍
Journeyman 71 Might be a bit late now, but if you are still trying to source some nylon tape, you can buy it by the yard from a Saddlers where it's sold for use as lunge reins and other harness related items. I have got the stuff in a couple of weights and thicknesses and used it for tracking leads and making deer drags ect...The saddler will also sew the loops on, but stress they need to be load bearing and ask extra stitching...

They come up on Ebay occasionally, l was issued mine.
It looks like static bag line to me. So was probably made up by unit riggers. Could be wrong though.

Looks a lot more compact than climbing rope. I can imagine the breaking strain is pretty high too, used to lash cars to ships with just 4 20mm webbing. Off topic question, but as a pathfinder what type of gear and techniques would you use for recon and what would you think to use now for civilian use?
Yeah it’s multi function too, so great for all kinds of outdoor uses.

@@PreparedPathfinder Yeah sorry it is pretty broad. With all that's going on I'm trying to work out what bit of kit is the highest priority to buy. Just ordered a small drone and BaoFeng UHF/VHF radio however as half the time it's dark I'm wondering if night vision would have been more a priority.
@@davidcann6021 Night vision is very expensive, if you want it to use it as a tool you need gen 2+ or gen3. Thats several thousands on its own. Plus all the accesories are crazy expensive aswell. Cheaper options exist but they are not a tool, but a toy. (Still, a 300€~500€ toy)

Indeed. I have a pulsar challenger gen1+ and it is good for static observation and tasks, forget about moving, let alone in difficult terrain.
I found that if you have good eyesight and you let your eyes get used to night-time star/moonlight conditions, you are as good as a gen1+. Maybe the NVGs outperform your eyes when looking into shadows (for example, looking into a treeline from outside the forest) but thats it really. For more, you need to use a IR light, and you become a beacon of light to anyone with NVGs.
Another considerarion is gen2+ vs thermal like the FLIR breach, but that is a rabbit-hole on its own
Not sure if this is something you'd have done with your loop line, but they could be set up to create mechanical advantage without pulleys (albeit slightly reduced advantage).

Seriously though how did the Pathfinders form? Did some comander just say "give me your four best men, I need someone to go ahead and tie knotts". Then a whole regiment formed around that?
What came first the path or the finder?
I couldn’t afford the flight to SE Asia!
Pathfinders were formed during WW2 to secure and mark DZs for the main drops, then to subsequently carry out recce and other tasks.

What are your thoughts on women in the military , seeing pictures of female Ukrainian soldiers breaks my heart . Why were they on the front lines , women should not be in combat they are at more risk than male soldiers , how can Ukrainian fathers be okay with the daughters dying for them .
Women have proved themselves recently in lraq and Afghanistan, and l think that the brave female fighters in Ukraine have every right to defend their country alongside their male counterparts.
Wow, I thought most armed forces had female combatants now? Took it for granted even. The North Koreans and IDF have significant numbers of females in service. They are very capable soldiers.
For many years the biggest issue was not the women themselves but men’s attitudes to them. At one point the IDF found that male soldiers would stop what they were doing to deal with a female casualty - breaking up the momentum of their own actions.
One of the complaints by the old and bold was ‘they’re not strong enough’.
I was involved many years ago in training female bomb disposal personnel (and still train civilian bomb disposal courses).
We established a ‘gender free testing’ approach. If they can’t carry two sandbags, carry one and make two trips…More women might fail some of the physical standards but some men fail too…
The women inevitably do better than the men. In fact I ran a course in Ukraine a while back where the two women on the course came #1 and #2.
@@bob_the_bomb4508 As a generalisation, females are not as strong as men, it's a simple fact of life...sadly, in the name of equal rights and political correctness, physical standards are often lowered to allow women to get in, which is wrong in my opinion. Woman bring different qualities to the table, rather than trying to be equal to men in every task or role, they should deploy them to make best use of their different qualities..
