The ZL1 Camaro is a race- bred muscle car specifically made to perform at the race track. The Hellcat is made with straight line racing being the primary reason for its existence. Both use an automatic transmission, electronically adjustable suspension, and modern traction control and of course, 2 amazing power plants up front, these are both made with only one thing in mind…performance & going fast. I’m a Dodge guy, but a fan of all muscle car brands. Chevy Camaro ZL1 is a beast , much respect to that machine. Both cars are gems, no matter who wins or loses in a race. I’d take the both of them,and make them family!!

I'm a Dodge guy too, the ZL1 is a great car but I always get a Challenger...car is a passion, my heart is with Dodge. GM and Ford do a good job but Challenger/Charger are for me the best
The best thing about the ZL1 is that it is even better known for giving the best sports cars trouble in turns on road courses too. Definitely carries Nurburgring records. Respect!

Weight can be a problem but it's the superior transmission in the ZL1 that gave it the win. The 10 speed automatic in the ZL1 is much better than the ZF 8 speed automatic in the hellcat.
Transmissions play a crucial in drag racing too
@@yusufgta4341 it’s not much better the only thing that’s better is the fact it has 2 extra gears. Believe it or not the zf trans can hold more hp and tq stock over the gm/ford 10 speed in the upper levels of power. As they sit stock it does help I agree. And if given a qm like it was designed then the Camaro would lose. Do a roll race Camaro loses. Mod it stock motor and blower the Camaro loses. But yes stock 1/8 weight is just to much but at the drag strip it’s not it’s closer with prep to the 1/8. This is coming from somebody who ones one and has for 7 year. Also you never ever launch a hellcat on parchment paint it will spin every time. In any case the Camaro was the faster car in this video.
Thanks to the last 7 years (2015-present) I no longer feel like I missed out on the greatest time to be alive.. the muscle car era and horsepower wars of the late 60's to 71.
Ours was even better. Thank you Chevy, Ford, and especially Dodge for bringing that Hellcat to life in 2015.

Great video. I love both cars. I’ve had races with a stock A10 ZL1 versus my stock A8 717 HP Hellcat but did all my runs with it at the track from a dig and roll races with both of us on drag radials. In my experience both cars were pretty much hanging with each other and neither of them were pulling away from each other. They are pretty similar in straight line speed and whoever had the hit first took the win in a race.
However on the street, with the Hellcats stock junk P-Zero tires like in this video, it’s very difficult to launch the car and gain traction. The Camaro has the better advantage with the better stock tires from the factory AND the Alpha chassis that helps put the power down better hence why the ZL1 quickly took the lead in this race.
If this video were to only show races from a dig, a better comparison were to see both cars on a sticky tire to give each car a fair advantage.

My own words are based off my experience when racing it (especially when both cars have a sticky tire in the rear). My own words also states that the ZL1 does have better advantages against the Hellcat with a better chassis as well as better tires as opposed to the Hellcats outdated chassis and less desirable factory tires.

@@barbell_7177 lmao this guy is just to upsessed with the cross symbol. He doesn't realize all the Camaro won was the 1/8th mile. Not like it was the 1/4mile that most races are. The fact that ZL1 is 39xx k pounds compared to the hellcat 4400lbs lol weight to power ratios. It's a good reason why that thing pulled off the line quick but in the video the guy mentions how the hellcat will reel in if it was the 1/4mile. Plus like you gave a good theory it is the tires that the hellcat has a hard time not spinning out. Even most experienced drivers can't seem to perfect the launch without the best tire setup on this car. I do agree the Camaro is a class of it's own and sure is a nice car. If it were me to choose a track car to do some quick laps of course the Camaro has the upper hand. But on a straight the hellcat isn't a pony it's a true muscle at the end of the day and it'll accomplish just that in drag races or off the line in straights. Every car has their characteristic built in them.
Coming from owning a 17 ZL1 (6spd) Camaro for a few years, I can attest to how quick these things are both on and off the track (Big Willow 1:40.2 for non 1LE). However, if you're looking for a fun pony car that's both quick and can take the wife and kids around town for some fun, take the Challenger Hellcat. That thing has a HUGE back seat in comparison to the ZL1 along with a trunk that would probably fit a ZL1 with room to spare. Though the ZL1 is a better track weapon, no denying that, the Hellcat would be the better streetcar for the long haul.

@@scottbarker9058the Challenger fits adults in the backseat no problem but I wouldn’t make it a daily routine because the front seats have to be scooted up. Mustang and especially Camaro backseats are just there for decoration.
If you’re just driving around smaller kids or teens in the back it’s perfect, but the 4 door Charger exists for a reason.
That classic Camaro actually did better than I thought it would. 😄

ZL1 IS the Heir to the Mad Max Interceptor throne.
I just have a 22 1SS , super fun to drive I can only imagine the power the ZL1 has.
headers and chip , and a K&N will make that SS up around 540HP
@Jag Mag dude no it won't 😂 I have an ss and a zl1. You definitely aren't picking up that much power with just those mods. You MIGHT make that with fbo but I really doubt it.

I have an 18 and added a supercharger, the magnuson 2650. Stock it was fun, bolt ons it was quick, now it's just plain ignorant.

I love all muscle cars especially the Hellcat,Camaro,Cobra and Mustang.But I have noticed that the Hellcat is the measuring stick for all muscle cars,if you can beat a Hellcat you’re in the game or you have something worth having.So the way I see it all the other muscle cars made the Hellcat popular because it’s the measuring stick.

ZL1 is designed with a fast and agile combo . With weight reduction and Chevy always does well when it comes to torque also

ZL1 is the only car I've driven that legitimately scared me. I was so careful. I've driven a ton of Hellcats, just don't spin the tires. The ZL1 feels like an absolute beast and is way better on an actual track as well. I didn't drive it on the track fyi.
The Camaro is definitely the Better of the two with all the options for the price ! Awesome love to have it ....Some day !

Straight A to B is ok however...The ZL1 handling to me is the real benefit
A 5th gen with IHE, cam and a tune is a close race on a hellcat. Mostly because the hellcat is so heavy. The Camaro really is under appreciated.

We've advanced an insane amount. That 68 camaro had a 454(was stated in video and badged) and they didn't come with that powerhouse of a motor in 68. The 68 camaro all stock, which, this camaro wasn't, would get torched. It had larger wheels a larger motor(with more HP) etc. than it would've come with stock in 68. There's a reason cars like the new camaro are breaking records at tracks every year. We have cars like the c8 doing 0-60 in under 3 second stock nowadays. That wasn't even possible back in the 60's -90's without serious modifications. The advancement in cars is HUGE.
Not once did you mention the ZL1s 600 lb weight savings from the Challenger. A measly 70 hp isn't going to make up the difference in weight there. A more even comparison would be a Hellcat Redeye widebody honestly. Regardless good video I like the multiple angles

that 69 454 Camaro was rated at about 450 HP SAE. Could be underrated. Still can't run with 650 HP Net.

The Hellcat was a Widebody with 11" Rims. It's a combination of more weight and the Pirellis suck!
To make that old-school race fairer, they should have just run a Camaro LT1 against the 454. Both being naturally aspirated and the LT1 not being track focused.

@@Mofasa_zl1 It does .. the widebody was made to handle better more so with curves & lost top end speed slightly to enhance its performance around a track & in a straight line combined. It has different suspension adjustments that the standard body doesn’t have . The standard body HellCats strictly are engineered to go as fast as it can in a straight line and doesn’t weigh as much as a widebody. It’s power to weight ratio … specs may seem close on paper but in a race every detail matters

@@qrewcarreviews4131 yea it will be a little different but there's a difference in all the zl1 I've seen so far, we all have different weights when we go on the scales, mine weight in at 4230 and I seem some weight in at 4300 so that can change the outcome also but if it's the exact same car in this video it won't be that much difference

The challenger quite literally only has straight line speed. Around a corner it can't really hold its own.
