It's an aftermarket catch tank as the hemis are heavy breathers, I've had the pleasure of driving the chargers and challengers and I can honestly say in the UK there not well fitted but the 5 door charger is slightly more suited over the challenger, the build quality is very shoddy in a lot of places and if the battery goes dead it's a pain getting into the boot too get the emergency boot release so you can charge the battery, The engines have weak points the 6.4 MDS issues are a big pain in the but and the water pump issues The gearbox is out of a Merc sprinter and HS been the same box since 2008, There loud and fun when accelerating but give it a corner and all it wants to do is go side ways,

What's funny is James roasts the car for being American when the Americans don't even bother to build them. Most Chargers/Challengers are built in Canada under American orders
The Canadian workers tend to be more concerned about doing their job to a higher standard than American or Mexican car manufacturers. I believe that the Viper was also only built in Canada as well.
I think it would be very interesting to see James' who once drove a car with an engine that had a displacement half the capacity of the supercharger to do a full indepth or long term review of one of these.
For anyone curious, they were incorrect about the hellcat engine being related to the engine in May's exorcist Camero ZL1 he drove on the grand tour. Dodge uses the hemi platform of v8's while the Chevrolet camero uses an LS platform v8 (Chrysler vs. General Motors platforms)

The only car that makes Bim happy is the Dacia Sandero.
7:07 That's an oil catch can, sence newer cars (here in the US) use low friction piston rings to help with gas mileage some oil gets past the pistion rings. The heads is not orange, that was the valve cover btw. 🇺🇸
707 horsepower
"low power version"
Because they had a 1000hp one before.
@@zer0bre the car James was talking about was the Demon which is 840hp .
@@trenton.tchannel1810 didn't he say it had 1000hp?
@@trenton.tchannel1810 Hammond were driving the Demon (840hp) and James drove the Camaro Exorcist or something, with 1000hp. I bet May also drove the Challenger Demon, but not for us viewers.
There's the Charger Redeye with ~800 hp and the Jailbreak which is around 807
That metal piece under the bonnet is most likely an oil catch can
No wonder my Gin purchase is backordered to September, they’re all in different cars.
The metal piece is an oil catch can, a common modification for the hemi, whoever installed it intended to use all of that 707 hp fairly often.
It has nothing to do with “using all of that” it’s been a must-do addition to all hemi dodge cars for 20 years. Otherwise vaporized oil will condense and build up in the intake regardless how hard you drive it. You can thank the EPA.
The mystery part is most likely an aftermarket oil catch can gents.
How do you empty it though? They usually have an easy access for drainage
@@BIG-ES- depending on how capable you are you can set it up so the caught oil runs into the dipstick. Otherwise there is usually a valve of some type on the under side of the catch can.
@@BIG-ES- probably a drain underneath the car
I remember reading that in the US, you were allowed to discharge oil from PCV into the atmosphere but Europe you weren't. Sounds like this is the oil separator for the PCV.
Been around dozens of Hellcats (& own one myself) - have never seen a Catch Can on the front left corner. They always mount on the Super Charger just above the pulley. Have no idea what that was, but doubt its a CC.
Lil' smile in my face everytime James May says 'Sandero'.
I'd love to stay at James' pub, I live in hope that he'd spot my knackered old Saab 9-5 and take an interest
I love the running gin plug on these. I wish we got to see James' driving reaction and impression of the car though.
Anyone else think it would be cool to watch Harry Metcalfe and James May talk about cars?
@RoadReg .. +1 ... Agreed.
They're the same bloke.
As an FYI, James May is RUclips gold. He brings a huge audience, myself included. Even though it's Captain Slow, anything that brings together even 2 of the top 3, views will follow. Long live the first 3.
Absolute icon of a man which is May

It's an aftermarket catch tank as the hemis are heavy breathers, I've had the pleasure of driving the chargers and challengers and I can honestly say in the UK there not well fitted but the 5 door charger is slightly more suited over the challenger, the build quality is very shoddy in a lot of places and if the battery goes dead it's a pain getting into the boot too get the emergency boot release so you can charge the battery,
The engines have weak points the 6.4 MDS issues are a big pain in the but and the water pump issues
The gearbox is out of a Merc sprinter and HS been the same box since 2008,
There loud and fun when accelerating but give it a corner and all it wants to do is go side ways,
when the battery dies you can pop the hood and use a jump box or jumper cables to energize the system, there are battery posts under hood for this. once energized you just press the trunk open button, no need to climb into the trunk from the back.
It’s not a catch can at all. The hoses are vacuum lines, way to small for a catch can. You have no idea what you are talking about…
It's a 6.2 not the "lesser" 6.4..
Also it's not the "same" transmission from 2008....
I want Jeremy to ROAST the cars with his unique genius way!
That would involve him actually participating in the tribe channels more than once per calendar year, so I don't think that'll happen.
@@mmonkeyman1403 He is in the tribe so we want see him more!
Well he didn’t bash it as much as I thought he would. I like how they acknowledged the price and this isn’t meant to be a fine luxury car. You’re buying it for what’s under the hood and it’s more accessible to a larger population.
I’m pretty sure this thing appeals to everyone’s inner six year old. It’s big, loud, brash, powerful and has a tremendous sense of theater about it.
It’ll be a sad day when Americans cease making V8’s - a day, I fear, is coming soon.
Last week we had a MegaMillions lottery of $1.3 BILLION. I have a 2006 Charger Daytona now and went online to price out a fully loaded Charger Hellcat Jailbreak with all the options/colors/etc. I wanted. Sadly I did not win... Word is the gas Charger is dead by 2024.
@@kennethfharkin I think you’d need to be a billionaire to fill the tank up these days
I'm an American driving a new Shelby GT-500. We have large open roads and big freeways; for a car enthusiast, it's the best feeling in the world. Most of these high HP supercharged cars will get the chopping block by 2024/2025. If you can afford the experience, i reccomend it to anyone that loves cars.
But we've made millions of V8s, so there's no shortage. Then again I don't buy new cars either so there's that. If you're a new car buyer I congratulate you. But I don't envy your payments.
It's big yes, brash yes but also out of place on rural uk roads, an too loud for residential areas
Should have told James how fast it goes around Nurburgring. He likes that.
That’s an aftermarket frame for a catch can. Catch cans are important for high ‘blow-by’ engines.
the idea is to separate the oil from the blowby getting into the intake, while letting the actual gas go in. so you don't gum up the supercharger with nasty oil.
No, lines are to small. They look like vacuum lines on my turbo. I have a catch can and they have much bigger lines then that. I have seen many different systems and none have had small vacuum lines at all.
Yes and "The Exorcist" Camero James drove was a normal high powered 700+hp Camero aftermarket tuned to 1000hp by Hennessey.
Honestly, half of this was just an advert for James Gin, but I happily watched it anyway. I've tried it. It's quite nice.
I know it has trouble on the horse cart trails in England. Sure, it's a big fat powerful car, and England only makes big fat powerful Range Rovers. So... OK.
Interesting take aways from this video for me is that James now owns a Land Rover, and no longer owns his Ferrari? I'd like another video in his underground garage, actually.
He sold his classic Ferraris. Kept his 458 Speciale tho. Rarely drives it though
@@thomaswright7562 Yes, that's what I remember as well! But if you listen, he says, "when I had a 458 Speciale and not an Italia" in the clip (4:38). Curious...

The Dodge Charger is clearly meant to be noticed, to be rowdy, and to be able to provide an incredible amount of power for little money. James May knocks it because it's not polished and it wouldn't be appropriate for the queen. I have a feeling that posh and proper snobby aristocrats was not the target demographic Dodge was aiming for when they designed this.
at least he had something nice to say as well. why ru mad just click off

what a great time to be alive lol. this definitely helps with the craving for more content from May, Hammond and Clarkson! So awesome we dont have to wait for a new season/series to begin to see them do what they do best! Thanks Drivetribe!

@@Crownest219 I’ve always appreciated the classics...
i'm surprised that there isn't a bottle of gin in the comments
The rudimentary fabricated metal component under the hood is a turboencabulator module for the Infinite Improbability Drive (IID). The IID option is only available on the 2022 widebody version of the Charger Hellcat, and only on the ones that have the number "42" in the VIN.
Wasn't The Excorsist a Camaro?
I might be wrong
J.C - Mustang
R.H - Challenger Hellcat
J.M - Camaro
Was thinking the same thing
Yes the exorcist car was a 1000hp camaro built by Hennessey...
What's funny is James roasts the car for being American when the Americans don't even bother to build them. Most Chargers/Challengers are built in Canada under American orders
It's not who turns the bolts, it's who decided to what it's made of.
The Canadian workers tend to be more concerned about doing their job to a higher standard than American or Mexican car manufacturers. I believe that the Viper was also only built in Canada as well.
The British have never built quality cars in the last 50 years.
That looks like an oil catch can.
aftermarket for sure

Pretty much 80% of young American people’s “dream boat”

That car is so decidedly American, it unEnglished Hammond.
He was never English anyway he was always American in everything except legal nationality and citizenship
Oh, so you haven't heard, Hammond was always secret American
If you can find one, these cars are currently selling between $90,000-$110,000 USD new. I can't imagine what you have to pay for one across the pond? Then having to pay $10 for a gallon of gas as well.
I dont care what anyone says, I love v8s, the sound, the power, mods, the cars they come in. AWESOME!
Say thar again brother that divine supercharger sound is comparable to angles whispering in my ears telling me to push it go faster
TopGear made a mistake when they turned from reviewing cars creatively with a bit of banter into a full on clown show where cars may sometimes appear.
First 7-9 seasons of topgear, starting with the Zonda in the first season, were marvelous.
What is this video, anyway ? Stands in front of the car, doesnt even get into the car, says some numbers about the car, and the rest is product placement.
Did...Dodge pay too little for them to drive the car 2 meters ?
At this point I'm baffled. If you're bored and tired of what you've been doing for 20 years - dont do it.
I’ve owned just about every kind of car you can think of from Ferraris, lambos, Vettes etc and I must say this is the funnest car I’ve owned! It’s big, heavy, glitchy, over powered and super dramatic. What a great car and I hate it’s coming to an end! What an awesome car; the epitome of american muscle
With that amount of money go build yourself a car, and tune it. It’s far more fun to see your work, and far more powerful.
You wanna spare some money then 🙂🤣
DRIVETRIBE will get more cars and will not need this one at some time can I please have this beautiful hellcat😫🤧
I moved from russia to the states couple years ago and bought Dodge Charger. Must say it is still better than Lada I had before :) but mine didn’t come with James Gin though
Built in Brampton, Ontario, Canada!!! I work right behind the factory. Love when I see the Hellcats.
ngl i was waiting for him to drive it the entire time
It’s not a catch can. Catch cans are mounted to the front of the engine block close to the pcv valve and intake. You can clearly see that the pcv hose is still connected to the valve and manifold. I have a 2021 Hellcat challenger and the only piece of equipment there is the proportioning valve for the antilock brakes. With out a better picture I’m not sure what that is.
Who needs a roast when you've got James may doing it 🤣
I agree James! Less dead cow and more alcantara! Or whatever the fabric is inside the Volvo V50, which is absolutely lovely.

May, Hammond, and Clarkson have always had the problem of hating on anything that isn't a British classic.
The Hellcat is a beast, nuff said.
I think from a British perspective the Charger like any other American muscle is just a symbol of America's gluttony and pure consumerism. But when the drive there is always a smile on their faces. Its a Pig in some respects but at the same time its raw unadulterated savage fun
My life is complete, James may saying “thank you for the plug” 😂
It’s hard to not like it, even just a little bit, once you hear the exhaust. Still, I’m with James on the seats. I prefer cloth seats - they don’t get too hot nor too cold. If you can get them heated then they’re perfect in the winter time. I think this Charger would a be a fun weekend rental on a short trip but I don’t think I’d want it to be my daily driver.
Leather, too hot in summer, too cold in winter. You shouldn't need heaters or coolers in seats to be comfy. I had a Renault Vel Satis with alcantara seats and they were just lovely, you didn't slide about in the seat and they were never too hot or cold.
I love how these bottles of gin just keep showing up, i'm almost thinking it's not a coincident. Thinking about buying myself a nice bottle!
There should be a showdown. Charger Hellcat, Corvette Z06 and GT500. All the supercharged flagship models. The Supercharged Showdown. James May, Richard Hammond and of course Jeremy Clarkson. What a wild show that would be.
Anybody else unreasonably annoyed by a self-confessed pedant such as James referring to 57% proof? Proof and alcohol percentage being two different measurements? Just me then.
I would love to hear James talk about early 2000s Mercedes interiors. I drive a 2003 E320 (petrol) with the "elegance" packet in black leather and those dark brown "root wood" details. I've noticed nothing that doesn't touch your skin is leather and I like it
