- The Redskins shook off a disheartening opening-night road loss and sprung back to life in their home opener, defeating the visiting Atlanta Falcons on this sun-drenched afternoon at RFK.
Washington dominated the first half with ball-control offense, but the Falcons kept the game close with a pair of stunning big-play touchdowns. Special teams fireworks on both sides made for an especially memorable second quarter, including the one and only Redskin highlight for Desmond Howard (the Marissa Tomei of Super Bowl MVP awardees - yeah, we said it).
The second half was a different story. Darrell Green suffered a fractured forearm but the Redskins defense bent without breaking, staging two late-game goal line stands to preserve the victory.
It's the '92 Redskins home opener from RFK, called by the honorable Dick Stockton alongside the Human Smugburger (with cheese) Randy Cross.

I’m an Atlanta native. I was 13, when I saw this game. I lost it, when Desmond Howard made his first TD on that PR. I was subtly excited to see Deion Sanders return the kick for a TD, right after. Deion Sanders was my idol, as a kid. Got to watch him play for the Falcons and Braves. Those were the days.
Great graphics and quality!
VERY good picture quality especially for 1992. #HTTRredskins
Thank you! This is a good as it can be rendered (lots of trial and error in remastering these old recordings). Will take years to remaster them all (unless computers get much faster - maybe they will!
Thank you for upload. Attended this game. Defending Super Bowl Champions home opener. Heisman winner Desmond Howard first NFL TD via B Mitch utilizing a classic Redskins flea flicker (first time reigning Heisman winner acquired by reigning SB Champ) & Deion in dancing in corner. Redskins owned Falcons in 2Legit era. Love your channel keep up great work. Have some games I need to upload myself one of these days.
and of course Darrell almost chasing down Mike Haynes!
I presume the Redskins traded up to draft Howard?
Beautiful trick play on the punt return TD.
7:43 Desmond Howard TD
9:21 Deion Sanders TD immediately after
You could see the drop off from our 1991 championship squad to this 1992 edition. We were so dominant in every phase the previous year. It just didn't click in '92.
Prime Time looked like he was running half-speed on that kick return. Just toying with everybody.
Thank you again!
You’re welcome. This one came out very nice!
Do you have Cardinals vs Redskins from 1997, 1st game at Jack Kent Cooke Stadium? These videos are getting me through the off-season, so thank you 😊
Yes… that particular game needing a little audio repair work but will get to it. Stay tuned.
@@RetroSkins Looking forward to that, thank you!
I want to watch the 1996 game.
26 was still geassed on the Deon TD from the great block on Howard's punt return
Sanders, green and Hayes!! The 3 fastest during that time.
Green got 💨
I was at this game watching my uncle Danny Copeland 26 safety last man got cooked by prime time speed kills this game made me a prime time fan.
Hail to the Redskins!!!
Failure to the safe spaces (“commanders”)
CBS really moved Cross around with different broadcast partners back then. It seems like every year he was working with someone new.
He was always good on the mic.
@@thedetshow361010:22-great call for Randy Cross on "Prime Time"..."forget it and book it; it's done!"
Do you have 1992 Redskins at Giants & 1992 Cowboys at Redskins?
Haynes really torched Green badly on the long TD.
I remember, when it happened. For Darrell Green to slip, fall, get up and almost catch Michael Haynes is unbelievable.
Mike hanynes 💨 darrell nodoy ever talks about it
The referee was a friend of my late grandfather but I can't remember his name.
