With the 2nd knot, do you cut the ends close to the knot or do you have to weave them in or crochet over them? I tried cutting the ends, but the knot failed every time, even though it was made correctly. It appears to be a simple reef knot which is designed to come undone if you move both pieces toward each other which would happen easily with normal movement and washing etc. I do really like it though and think I would use that but also leave ends to sew or crochet over at the very least.

Up to you..but i cut them off as it wont loosen the knot as its a double one but if you prefer to weave them in thats ok. Whatever works best for you..

These knots will not hold on a 100% slippery acrylic-- the knots come apart. I'm using Hometown bulky... I'm trying the braided join to see if that will hold... hope so!

Nice video. I used to knot like this and have since changed to doing a Russian join. It's more time consuming, but I don't like a knot showing - seems like it always ends up on the right side of the outfit where I don't want to see it. Great illustration.

If it is a sticky yarn like wool you can snip them off close to knot. Smoother yarns best to weave them in for a few stitches, split the ply take half the plys one stich further then tie a double knot with all the plys and snip the remaining ends close to that.

The second one is a square knot. I learned square knots about 50 years ago in Girl Scouts. There's a simple way to remember it. It goes like this:
    1. Right over left and under
    2. Left over right and under
    3. Pull tight. Done.

I have been looking for a join that wasn't bulky for a very long time (I started crocheting at 11 and am now 49). All this time I have most just made longer ends and crocheted through my stitches as I went. These days I'm much more skilled and am using much finer yarns, this will surely help my progress! Thank you so much!
