It was composed by the portuguese king D. João IV in the 17th century. John Wade was the man that popularized this beatiful song in England.

@rexeterna I answered "You just need to free your mind and open your heart. Then you will feel how wonderfull it is."
It didn't just changed his life but also mine. This episode made me feel that music still can be a real way of Evangelization!

yes you have a point...many people only think of Santa Claus and the deers when they hear 'Christmas'... but at least we who understand true it's meaning can appreciate it. ^^ Doesn't matter if one believes in God or not, it's their lives anyway, also they get paid LOL.

@rexeterna Florez is catholic. He has an album of sacred songs. You have to know more about him, before you write that kind of comments.

@rexeterna I agree with you, it only makes sense to play or sing when you believe it but who knows, they can discover the wonder of Christ when singing. Every year I make a serie of Christmas Concerts in partnership with a friend of mine who is singer and used to be atheist but once, after a reharsal he asked me: "- What makes conducting this christmas stuff so amazing to you? I've seen how do you feel this and I'd like to be able of do the same"

Adeste Fideles was composed by King John IV of Portugal in 1640 and not by John Francis Wade whose score dated 1743, namely 103 after King John IV.

@rexeterna I'm atheist and a classical singer. I sing this music because it's beautiful, I enjoy it, and the audience appreciates it. As an atheist, am I not allowed to enjoy the pleasures of Bach? Should I not be allowed to sing and enjoy the wonderful Jewish music of Ravel? Get a clue.

Oh come all ye faithful auf lateinisch.

@rexeterna How do you know she is an atheist? I'm just curious. I always see her wearing a cross necklace in a lot of her videos, not that that means anything. I just wondered when she had mentioned she was an theist?

@rexeterna Just a stab in the dark, but perhaps it's considered by many to be beautiful music and religion is immaterial to its enjoyment. Just perhaps.

he's catholic when it serves him. do you think he really goes to mass? no way. garanca is an atheist. i don't know about the others. but why sing this stuff if you don't believe in it?

Why sing Frosty the Snowman if you don't believe in magical snowmen that come to life? They sing it because it's on the program, they have good voices, and others believe it and want to hear it. Plus it's just a good song.

My comment may be a bit late😅, and I don‘t know, if you will read that, but I just wanted to say, that I know for sure, that Genia Kühmeier *does* belive in God! She even mentioned that in an interview😊
