a better competitor to the S24 Ultra would be the bigger 16 Pro Max, it has better thermals and does not throttle as much as the smaller 16 Pro, according to Geekerwan’s analysis
But the fact that it takes three... THREE version of the same phone to compete with just 1 phone is sad lmao
@@memeySLOPtf this comment makes no sense even 😂
@@memeySLOP that’s like saying it takes 3 versions of a Toyota Camry to compete with a f1 car. That does not make sense, you cannot compare a nearly 7inch phone to a smaller compact 6.1inch phone..
@@memeySLOP what are you even talking about ? S24 Ultra is their most high-end (exclude Flip/Fold), and the release price is the same as iPhone 16 Pro Max. so why comparing w/ smaller and cheaper Pro model is something you considered as "fair" ?
@@memeySLOPwhat are you talking about? 😂 Samsung has the same exact thing. They make the S24, S24+, and the S24 ultra
The *insert situation* situation is crazy 😂 man, this trend sucks
Very much so
What hasn't been emphasized is that this is the regular pro, not pro max. So the fact that it's not throttling as hard in a smaller body is even more impressive.
Downside when gaming you can't find the games you want cause it's an Android and PC only.
@@powerfulshammynope, iOS has the best App Store and app ecosystem. Therefore, games on iOS are better and more plentiful.

Why every creator wants to compare the base iphones to s24 ultra. Compare them to base model s24.
I want to see what same form factor device from samsung can compete with base iphone model.
its the same chip in the S24 and the s24 ultra. It would be exactly the same
Why compare s24 to iphone 16, s24 was released an year ago where as, 16 was released a week ago 😂
@@jonny2085 No it wouldnt. S24 ultra is big, its thermals are handled well bcz of it. But in small phone, with only 4000 mah battery, we should see how well it can handle stress tests. And how much of battery drain it does due to heat.
@@deep_x69 Because thats how comparison works.
Samsung and apple release schedule doesnt match, but if people see what they want to buy today, they will need the comparison of phones that are available today, not 6 months later.
And also the since s24 and s25 jump will not be that insignificant, bcz of yearly release. Its fair comparison for now.
Just like creators will compare s25 with iphone 16. But then you will say why compare iphone 16 its old. Wait for 17 now.

I get that your testing has shown that the external coolers had underperformed when used on the iPhone. However, this was in a controlled environment. The one time I have used it to great success, albeit a very specific and unique situation, was Pokémon Go Fest. It was 100 degrees F in NYC, in direct sunlight, running an intensive game for long periods of time, and often connected to charging bricks via cable. The performance drop, both Android and iPhone, in that instance with no external active cooling made the game, and also the phone itself, unplayable. The external refrigeration plate cooler made the phone run smoothly and the game perform at a noticeably functional level. That heat alone, even without the game being played, caused almost unusable frame rate stutter and excessive heat warnings. The cooler helped return the phone to a usable state. As I said, this is a very situational and unique testing experience, but the usefulness of the cooler cannot be understated when faced with measurably extreme metrics taken into account.
Do the test in Texas, during the hottest time outside in the sun.
Results will surprise you (in a bad way)

Actually the cooler is worth using on iPhone not for the benefit of no thermal throttling but because it stops the screen from dimming on you while playing
Damn that was a real issue back when I used to play lots of CoD and PUBG on mobile. It got dim to the point I couldn't spot a single enemy😂
why no Pro Max? That is more comparable to the s24 Ultra.
It has the same chip from Apple (I forgot what they’re on now) and the same amount of ram (8 gb). The only difference is the 16 pro max has a bigger battery I believe so they would probably have the same score
@@reiserjakeit would be different cus he tested sustained performance. Bigger phone means better heat dissipation.
That's crazy that the iPhone essentially doubles as a gaming phone among phones of it's caliber.
However, I'd still stick to my Samsung because iOS ain't for for me 🤷♂️

Woww apple gaming is on the same level as the other big gaming companies 👏
My iPhone 12 nearly burnt my hand playing vampire survivors
I think the one reason for the sustained performance can be that the iphone is not giving its 100% power, so even after continuous testing it goes down to maybe 70 to 65 but if from the start it is giving you 80% percent that will seem like pretty good handling
If you’re gaming on your phone and need a cooler, it may be time to move out of your parents’ basement and engage in the real world.

The iPhone 16 Situation Is Crazy
This is the greatest iPhone 16 of all time
My takeaway from this: the iPhone 16 pro is a very efficient device when it comes to gaming over long periods and productivity over the S24 ultra. Not sure if I will spend any money on an upgrade on a new phone yet this year though.
One of the reasons I switched to a flagship Samsung S23 Ultra is the fact that my previous iPhone 13 Pro always throttles even under regular load. Barely gets the maximum brightness whenever I use data on 5G network. Samsung has no problems with being always on 5G. Doesn't throttle NOR reduce brightness even when using Samsung DeX.
where is 16 pro max 💀
This should be compared to the 16 pro max if we are comparing the Samsung ultra. I can imagine the efficiency is even better than the regular pro
Half of the examples of mobile gaming came from the same company xD
I think Austin should try to get into the VRChat beta for these benchmarks, that’s a real stress test.
Sorry, but you gotta redo this video as there’s a lot of non-factual statements here:
1- CODM does throttle a lot on my iPhone 15 Pro Max on low graphics and ultra frame rate. You need to be actually playing a BR game, instead of being in the training room.
2- I use a Razor Phone Cooler, and without it, my screen will dim to the point it’s unusable, So Phone Coolers do actually work great on preventing SoC throttling.
I went from
Iphone 4 16Gb to Iphone 7 32GB
From Iphone 7 32GB To Iphone 12 Pro 256GB
From Iphone 12 Pro 256GB To Google Pixel 8 256GB
There's zero reason the iPhone 16 should be getting too warm with that 60hz display. I can't believe the stuff people let slide because it is Apple. Any other Android phone would immediately be trashed if they had that in this day and age.
Samsung phones make a mistake = blame Samsung
Apple shits on their overpriced phones = blame the user
Gaslighting ensues.
iPhone 16 In my opinion, if the screen speed was 120 Hz, the best phone would be the iPhone 16, and we would not need to buy a pro pro max.
I have a 15 pro and it regularly gets warm during normal use, but my wife has a 15 pro and I gave her my phone while it was warm and she said hers is never like that.
well, im going to wait for the iphone 19 for 2027 games.
Does it matter?!? The last 4 generations of the iPhone Pro and Pro Max series look the same. There's no innovation within Apple 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
:56 this just shows me that I have no need to upgrade my 12 to a 16. It looks like literally the same phone.
I don't mobile game or use an iPhone as a daily driver... Yet here I am lol
I cant calling myself a gAmEr playing on a touchscreen phone.
@@dasboom7133guys see we have a “I am a gamer because I play on pc(or console)” guy making fun of mobile gamers
@dasboom7133 you kinda can a gamer is someone who plays games no matter what device (I'm a pc nintendo mobile and ps5 gamer myself)
We should not even consider talking about thermals when comparing worlds. This is like taking a Pentium processor and comparing it to a 9950X. They all use different chips, and the new Apple chips are way faster than any others. So, it's just normal that they produce more heat. Honestly, just nonsense comparisons. Just use the phone you like-if you're a Samsung person, go for it; if you're an Apple person, go for it
You're comparing S24 Ultra to non pro iphones. Use Pro Max in all variants for more fair comparison. It's widely known that the Pro Max variant is much better for battery life and heat.
The iPhone 16 situation is crazy
It is an apple device, of course it over heats. There monitor stand over heats.
The more logical test would be with a Pixel 9Pro/9Pro XL wouldn't it? Pixel has a history of overheating so this would be a perfect opportunity to prove Pixel is on par with iPhone 16.
Every iPhone does this when brand new. What are we freaking out about
The dimmed display is what ruins the fun...
This is why testing matters. I saw another gaming test with 15 pro max after ios 18 update. lagging terribly at 8 minutes gaming, and on ios 17 it was fine until 22 minutes. After 13 minutes on s24 ultra...thermal limit was reached and it crashed. But you know which didn't throttle the test and stop...the pixel 9 pro XL and the 16 pro max. Real world tests mean way more than theoretical benchmarks. its was a simple driving game and PiP youtube video test.
Not to mention with the S24 Ultra Samsung promised 7 years of software and security updates... BEST BANG FOR YA BUCK!!!!!
it also has like none of the features it was said to do but instead "you will get them when the next iOS version is ready" don't ship an unfinished product for real
As someone that games on a 13 mini and iPad mini latest gen, a cooler absolutely DOES WORK otherwise sustain performance drops hard when uncooled. But no 16 for me until we get a new mini or any reason at all to pay all that money for a bigger unwieldy phone
I watched this video through the iPhone 13; my current and 5th phone I own in 2024. I started having my own cell phone in 2015 with my first phone being the ZTE Android smartphone. After 1 year with the ZTE, I switched to the iPhones. On the iPhones, I started from iPhone SE and switched to iPhone 8, next iPhone XR, and last the iPhone 13.

How come we're comparing just-released devices with a competing device from January?
To see the differences and improvements made on mobile gaming technology, obviously. lol
Was there a difference in screen dimming during the sustained test? That has always been a pain for me with the iPhone. The 15 pro wasn't as bad as the previous models, but it still happened much more aggressively than on samsung.
I wish you had compared your results for the iphone 13, 14 and 15 to when they first came out as well. Just to see how much performance loss happened.
I'm still staying with my S24 Ultra... Mostly because I financed the whole $1300 😭
S24 ultra is still king but you have people who only buy apple and others who buy samsung/Android... Android gives you a lot of different phones from so many manufacturers but apple is just apple!
Although the performance might not increase while using cooler but the brightness decreases significantly without cooler or fan after significant gaming. So for hardcore gamers cooler or fan is a must
The iPhone 16 Situation is CRAZY
What you didn't consider is that samsung S series phones have the ability to run games directly on power without using the battery.

The fact that he specifically said games with no ads was scary, it's enough to have them in the console home screen but in-game? I don't want to live in that timeline lol
Is it me or is Austin's channel slowly loosing traction in views.
I admit I was one that misses his old format and rarely see his new videos anymore.
I have the Samsung S24 base model with the Exynos processor (I am from Europe), and the phone does not heat up even on a fast charge. It is incredible what Samsung achieved with the S24 lineup, possibly the best phones ever.
Noticed mine heating up a bit too much while on FaceTime
Apple is refusing to use vapor chambers in their phones. Can't imagine why. They let their MacBooks overheat because they wanted their iSheep to love ARM once it came out. What's their plan for their phones?
As for these results. They mean nothing. After the benchmark scandal where every phone company was purposefully locking full 100% from you until you installed and ran a recognised benchmark app, no one believes in benchmarks anymore. A better way to test this would be to run emulators on each phone (hoping iOS has the emulators now), running a PS2 game or Wii game for a while will show you the real world results much better.
hey @Austin, the reason why using detachable phone cooler behave weird because that design is not ideal at all. You did mention about it, it cools only the battery of the phone, not where the CPU/GPU is located. There're some cooler manufacturer that had designed an L-shapped one so the cooler can lower down the CPU/GPU as well, like SL33 and Piva BX7/ Piva BL7. There're also something called "Magnetic Heat Sink Conductor Pad Sticker", which is a metal with L shapped for traditional design cooler to do the same effect as well.
Its not like those older phones get shite fps in games
Thanks I upgraded to the 16 pro from the 12 mini so far so good. Surprisingly it feels more like an android and I’m loving it for that reason alone. Best of both worlds.
Keep in Mind that the S24 ultra is a Device from the previous generation ,not like the iphone 16s and also the fact that the S24 ultra is not brand new ,it's been used unlike the iphones which are like brand New . The Comparision will be fair when the S25ultra comes out!
@@venomboy0072 and s24 ultra have chipset with 4 nano not like iphone 16 pro max with 2 generation chip 3 nano.. it big difrence. Wait s25 ultra with 3 nano procesor

@@Fawke85 why shouldn't it be right? why would you compare the regular pro and not the Max to the S24 Ultra?
Why was the pro max not used?
The thing is this is probably the worst the 16 pro max will perform because iOS 18 isn’t well optimized yet. I can’t wait to see how much it improves with a couple of updates.
iOS 18 is as optimised as it’ll ever be. Future versions will only get more bogged down with features and fixes

Why not?
It's repeatable, it would require many people stepping up to repeat the same benchmarks to see validity. Given that you are a random sample, and Apple not having provided the phone specifically to you, it would be no different than any other consumer - which adds legitimacy. I think this bears repeating by many people.
Still sticking with my 13mini since I know that if I want to get a small phone in the future I’ll probably be getting a Z Flip. Funny thing about that RedMagic peltier cooler, it can draw something like 36W max according to a USB-C power meter, which is hilarious considering how much power a phone draws. Now to be fair, max cooling setting on that cooler is super dumb, the default 12W (w/out using the software) actually works good enough
In the end, it's *NIX GAMING.
I just put a case and screen protector on my 16 Pro Max… let’s just find out.

I wouldnt call the S24U the pinnacle of Android. I ditched mine for the Pixel 9 Pro XL and I prefer it 10-to-1 over the Samsung. Yes, the S24U with the SD chip performs better on paper, but I don't think it transfers to real life use.

"Below zero" is misleading. Below ambient. That's how those coolers work, they MIGHT go below zero but even that is misleading. Zero what? Celsius? Kelvin?
I’m sorry, @Austin and team, why did you compare these iPhones to the s24 ultra? There is a big size difference since thermals are the conversation. Why not the s24? Or maybe the pro max?

The cooler helps with keeping the brightness high on iPhones. When the phone is hot, the brightness dims.
