    Hello! Just found this and love it. I'm a beginner knitter. I was wondering how many stitches I will need to cast on for a 6 month old baby. Also - would I just follow the same decrease repeats you've shown or would these be different in any way?

    • @BundleInABasket
      @BundleInABasket  8 лет назад +1

      +Sohini Morrison Thank you I hope you find it easy to make. You will need to cast on 88 sts, Rib for 8 rows (or however long you want), for about 12 rows you will complete the stockinette stitch (Knit one row and purl the next) this should make the whole hat at this point measure about 7 cm. It's okay if it doesn't the numbers are just guides.
      For the decreases you will start row one with the RS facing (Knit side) at
      Row 1 K9, K2tog all around (80)
      Row 2 Purl all
      Row 3 K8, K2tog
      Row 4 Purl all
      You can follow the rest of the video from here. If you need anymore help just let me know ♥

    Hi, I'm currently working on this project and it's coming along great, your video is really well explained specially for beginners like myself, I was thinking it would fit a new born but I think it just might be a little to big for a NB, would you mind telling me how many CO sts and any other changes I would have to make ?

      @BundleInABasket  7 лет назад +3

      Hi, yes this will be a tad bit big I'll leave you with instructions on how to make a newborn size. If you need any help just leave me a comment.
      Cast on 66 sts *(Hat will be 10cm tall)*
      Rib 6 rows (K2, P2)
      Stockinette stitch until work is 7cm. (about 13 rows) Knit one row, purl the next row etc..
      *Row 1* K4, K2tog. Rep to end of row.
      *Row 2* Purl all
      *Row 3* K3, K2tog. Rep to end of row.
      *Row 4* Purl all
      *Row 5* K2, K2tog. Rep to end of row.
      *Row 6* Purl all
      *Row 7* K1, K2tog. Rep to end of row.
      *Row 8* Purl all
      *Row 9* K2tog. Rep to end of row.
      *Row 10* Purl all
      *Row 11* K2tog. Rep to end of row.
      Weave yarn through remaining sts and fasten off. Turn the hat inside out and sew the seam.
      I will make a video on this hat soon but for now I hope this is easy to follow.

    I'am a beginner and I have no idea what
    Row 1 *K8, K2tog. Rep from* to end of row. (72)
    Row 2 Purl all
    means!!
    and I've a question
    can I so the same steps with a needle size 8 or 9?
    btw great video :)

    • @BundleInABasket
      @BundleInABasket  9 лет назад

      +Whispered heart
      Thanks for your comment. It's nice to know I'm actually helping someone.
      These are the rows where you start decreasing the hat. In this case you will Knit 8 stitches(K8) then you will knit 2 stitches together(K2tog). You will repeat these 2 steps over and over again to the end of the row.
      For where it says Row 2 Purl all, you just have to purl stitch that row.
      To make this exact size hat you will need to use the needles and yarn size stated in the video. If you were to use a size 8 or 9 needle you could end up with a larger hat but you will also have to use a a bulky yarn. So basically you can use whatever size needle you want but you could end up with different results if you follow this video to the point.
      I hoped this made sense to you. If you need more help feel free to ask ♥

      +shivalini mohapatra Hi, You will need about 110 sts, you can use less if you feel like it will be loose because hats with a rib stretch, you can rib for 8 or 9 rows and before you start decreasing knit until the hat is about 7-8 cm long. No idea what went wrong, but can i continue doing *K11, K2 tog* to end of row (66). Would have to alter the rest of the decreasing counts too. Would it end up looking like a hat or should I just give up now and start from the beginning!!!
