Excellent explanation. Thank sir for the step by step explanation. I bought the Nikon D7500 for both video and regular pictures. I have been having issues with video recordings but you just did everything for me. Thank you so much.
Stumbled upon your video because I needed help setting up my D7500 for a shoot I am working on soon. This really helped me out! Thank you!
Perfect! Thank you‘
11:40 pressing the 'i' button on the right and enabling 'multi selector power aperture' will correct this and make the aperture transition smooth and silent. It just requires using the selector buttons to control aperture.
Thank you. Very good, no-nonsense tutorial.
Basics we overlook, thanks a lot
Thank you!! My boyfriend took the camera to a conference and I needed to provide a quick guide with screenshots on how to change the microphone settings :)
I bought one yesterday and have this sound when changing the aparture in live view mode.
Initially i thought it was a problem but just found out that it is normal in this video.
Thanks a lot.
A GREAT tutorial and essential viewing for anyone who, like me, is new to the D7500. I was hoping you would mention which SDXC card is most suitable, especially for 4K video as I know some people have experienced issues by trying to use cards which are incompatible.
I see you answered this question in your written instructions - thank you for such a helpful tutorial
SanDisk Extreme PRO 128GB SDXC Memory Card up to 170MB/s, Class 10, U3, V30
That's a very helpful tutorial. Thank you very much.
Thanks a lot! Have fun filming!
Absolutely excellent tutorial - thank you so much
Thank you!
This is the best video on D7500 video making set up❤
Gracias, it really helped me so much, great video, well explained. i will keep watching your videos.
Very very good n informative video- so well explained
Thank you so much!
This tutorial was immensely informative and helpful. Thank you very much for your time and effort!
Welcome! Very useful configuration suggestions can be seen in the video. I am now experiencing what I don't know. I noticed that in the tutorial you can see the same SIGMA lens that I tried to shoot video with. However, the sound of the focus motor is constantly audible in the recording. I ask is this the case with you too, is my lens defective? I use the built-in microphone. Thank you in advance.
Welcome to my channel!
I have good news and bad news for you!
Good things first: Your lens isn’t broken.
Bad thing: It's simply loud as f**k by design.
You could try to workaround it with not using the inbuild microphone, or not using autofocus. Instead use manual focussing or/and an external sound recording like Zoom H2n or DJI Mic or Rode Video Mic.
Anyways, when having these mounted too near to the lens, they might still record AF noise.
Best thing I experienced in AF silence is Nikon Nikkor Z 24-70 2.8.
@@PixelfriedhofTutorials Thanks for the quick reply! I understand thank you! I don't understand what alternative recommendation you have for Z type lens? How can it be mounted on an F type bayonet? I assume with a converter? I don't want to use a converter. Do you have a recommendation for a type F lens for silent video? Thanks in advance.
wow your video was stunning , i like it so much! i've been having the same camara for a while and i never knew properly how to use it! now i kinda know what to do to take good shots..!!
Very clear instructions! Thank you so much!
Very helpful.. Thankyou
You're welcome. Happy to see this tutorial helped!

Thank You!!!
Gracias por tu trabajo, saludos desde el norte argentino.
Very good~! East to follow along.
I love most my d7500
Can you do one video to plains how you have your screen stayed open. Never turn off please
Excellent and helpful video, thanks. What camera did you make the video with?!
With a D500 I think. Or with an iPhone…
Awesome video, thank you!
What about exposimeter in Live View in video mode?
will it overheat if i use with obs recording (live mode) for youtube content creation?
during the shooting, for videos, is possible to see the histogram?
Well done. Thank u
You're welcome!
What SD card are you using and what is the class and write speed? Please!
Thanks a lot 😄
You're welcome!
That was good instruction...let me try it out
Great video. question for you once I start recording after about 5 continuous mins the file name goes to yellow then 20 seconds later red then it stops recording. The a new file starts recording. I there a file size or time limit that the camera will only record for so long?
Thank you for a great video.
A question, will the Nikon 7500 will be enough to shoot close up videos of precious stones like Opals?
Thank you! Yes. The Nikon D7500 is one of the best Nikon models in DX product range.
When shooting close-ups of small things, have a look at this lens. I use it for small wildlife photography or close-up of different surfaces. It's my macro lens of choice: geni.us/TQzTDU (Amazon Affiliate Link)
@@PixelfriedhofTutorials
Thank youbfor the quick respond. By the way I didnt bought the body yet ill be happy to buy it through your affiliate link. Will I be able to start Macro video without Macro lens? Or is it crucial?
No, I think it isn't crucial. When you want to shoot video of stones and minerals you can get screen filling pictures of the subject also with zoom lenses between 40 and 100 mm i guess. Go and try some out. Thanks for using my link!
Stay healthy!
@@stratagemsgemart yes I bought it. With the right proper lens. They are doing the job. But the best light is Natural Sunlight.
Very good instructions and advice thank you. I would love to know what you think of the 7500 performance for video in terms of 'stability and shake' in normal hand held use. Do you need to use a tripod or do Nikon VR lenses do the job well enough.
Hello Robert,
thanks for your comment.
I think the Nikon D7500s video performance is good in terms of video quality (and also in terms of sound quality, even with the inbuild microphone).
DSLRs have few problems with video, due to their construction. Autofocus for example is often slow.
The D7500 produces very nice video, when used on a tripod, but when going handheld, I would suggest not only using VR in the lens, but also sensor-VR, like the mirrorless Nikon cameras Z5, Z6 or Z7 use.
This makes images much more stable, as there are then two stabilizers working. Besides that, more video-focused cameras like the Z-series can produce RAW video.
Link to Nikon Z6: geni.us/YihoNSZ (International Amazon Affiliate Link)
Another possibility to make handheld video more stable, would be to use a gimbal for that.
Leight-weight cameras like the Z-series can be mounted on such gimbals like the DJI Ronin gimbal: geni.us/Uf4C6d (International Amazon Affiliate Link)
Besides these pro-features I can recommend the video quality of the D7500s sensor. But it depends on what you want to do with your camera to find out which specs you need.
Best regards from Germany,
Daniel
thanks for tutorials video imaging
Great video! Thanks
This is so helpful..
Thank you!
Great video overview. You might want to mention that the 4K is actually 4K-UHD.
Superb sirji
thanks alot
very nice, I have a question in 4K mode can be use VR stabilization or not? only 1080p videos?
t hanks for this
I cannot find that much option in my frame size/frame rate
thank you for the effort and the sharing. can you change the external mic levels while recording? will the audio meters be available while recording?
Yes!
Will these settings also count and take effect when it comes to streaming on OBS?
-(thanks for the video)
Yes.
How many minutes can you record în 4k mode with this nikon?
Thanks ! Great video! Danke !
Thanks a lot Sir
I think this is a great video to hit the ground running with filming; however, I am having difficulty shooting at 3840 x 2160 @ 30p because after filming for about 5 seconds, it throws out a film "interrupting!" error message and it stops recording. Do you have any advice on how to fix this?
I would suggest changing the SD-card to avoid it having memory issues. Also make sure you are using a high-speed SD-Card like this: geni.us/YWhyWuG (Amazon Affiliate Link). If non 4k-filming works, I guess it is most likely a slow SD card that can't handle the data rate of 4k.
@@PixelfriedhofTutorials Interestingly enough, I do have a 64GB card in it already and it is consistently interrupted. It is supposed to be able to shoot 4k but it is not coming close. Is my only other alternative to get a 128GB or 256GB card? Or is there a setting that needs to be turned on?
No, the size/capacity of the card doesn't matter.
You need one that is fast enough and offers enough throughput. See link above, 170MB/s
When we switch into live view and then when we zoom it out or in does the camera do the noise or not
Please give the answer because i just buy nikon d7500 and it is doin noice in live view mode while zooming in and out .
THE SAME HAPPENS IN THE LIVE VIEW MODE, WHEN I CLOSE OR OPEN THE DIAPHRAGM, IT IS A NOISE TYPE "CLAK"
With the D7500, since it has a headphone jack, can you listen to the audio while recording or only during playback??
I like my d7500 on photos but it sucks in video focus hunting.
you should shoot in manual focus, and it will be great (btw Hollywood shoots in manual focus as well).
@@economicdevelopment5972 yes they are with follow focus wheel.
Thank youuu
Thank you Daniel very useful video! Tomorrow I'm gonna go out with my D7500 :)
Do you prefer any specific lince or objective?
Thank you for your kind words!
Yes, I have two favourite lenses indeed. I'm a big fan of SIGMA lenses.
I love the SOGMA 18-35 for video: geni.us/7Adxa (Amazon Affiliate Link)
And for a little bit more flexibility I often use the SIGMA 24-70. It‘s a full format lens, that means it's brilliantly sharp in the DX image area: geni.us/THRIA (Amazon Affiliate Link)
Have fun with your D7500, stay safe and healthy, best regards from Germany!
Thank you and wish you the same :)
Interesting, usually I have AF Nikkor 10-20mm and AF-P Nikkor 70-300mm but maybe these two are not appropriate recording? :)
Is AF-Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8G ED anything you recomend? :)
Cual objetivo usan para efecto cinematografico?
I hope I read your spanish right...
I can recommend the Sigma 18-35 1.8 lens geni.us/7Adxa (International Amazon Affiliate Link)
Am I doing something wrong. Or can you not record video with this camera while looking thru the viewfinder instead of the back screen?
You can't record video with any DSLR when not in live view. How should that be possible?
When you can see through the viewfinder, the mirror is down so you can see. No light falls on the sensor.
When you are in video mode, mirror is up, to let light fall on sensor, but no light is thrown through the viewfinder.
No camera with mirror can do that.
Thank you
Merci beaucoup
does it make a sense, if a video shoot in 4K then the output will be compressed to 1080p anyway?
That's simply wrong. Nothing is automatically compressed to 1080p.
If you do that in post processing later, the settings are fine for you, as they get you the best quality, no matter if you downsample the footage or not.
Greetings! I've got the d7500 and when I record video on 4K it stops recording after 50 seconds. What could be the issue?
torestudio1997 This could be due to a slow SD-Card. It seems the camera is unable to put the bitstream to card in time, so after 50 seconds the buffer is full and recording stops. I recommend using this card instead, as I use it successfully for 4K video in multiple cameras and drones: geni.us/YbDx (International Amazon Affiliate Link)
@@PixelfriedhofTutorialsMuchas gracias
Nice Video, but autofokus on Nikon DSLR sucks .....it´s tragic.....
How raw video shooting with nikon d7500??
No way. Go for Nikon Z6 or Z7.
TNX, very useful (I had some trouble understanding your pronunciation of the word 'aperture', first syllable caries the stress).
Yeah, I‘m sorry for that. I recognized the wrong pronounciation in the meantime.
Have fun with your camera!
@@PixelfriedhofTutorials Well thanks again, Daniel. As you might do more video for D7500 users, I thought I ought to let you ...cuz I have a thick 'Alpine' accent and committed some bloopers all right!
super !
Nikon d7500 shooting raw video?????
No way. Go for Nikon Z6 or Z7.
@@PixelfriedhofTutorials Unfortunately, I live in Iran and it is impossible for me to buy this camera.
Because this camera costs about 40 million tomans with Iranian money.
Even I had to work hard for a year to buy the Nikon d7500, at no cost and with all my money to buy this camera.
@@PixelfriedhofTutorials Good luck you can buy the best cameras.
It is impossible for us even to buy amateur cameras.😔
I'm very sorry for that, but as much as I would want to give you a better answer, I'm afraid, only Z6 and Z7 are capable of RAW Video I think.
This doesn't change anything on the topic, but maybe it soothes your soul: the z6 and z7 are too expensive for me too.
Tanks
But its impossible for me
❤
Yes, I use manual focus too. The auto focus on Nikon cameras SUCKS with video. It hunts - goes back and forth and takes too long to focus.
Daniel, I love this video and it helped me get started with my project. My daughter is a concert flutist, currently a senior in university. She needs a few excerpts of songs recorded as part of her application package to some summer academies. I am having trouble getting the video to sound great. I am especially having trouble when she plays high notes. I shoot with a Nikon d7500 and have followed your settings recommendations. I have a RODE Videomic Pro for sound. I am not sure what settings to try so I can minimize the odd discord (best word I can think of) at the high notes. She is playing them beautifully but they sound screechy on playback. Any help would be appreciated!
Hello Jim,
thanks for watching my video.
I know the D7500 and D500 have quite good microphones inbuild, and only few external mics can compete with the inbuild mics. Your mentioned RODE is one of the best solutions for that.
But those external and internal mics aren't designed for recording high bandwith audio, like a flute.
Try this external recorder from Zoom instead: amzn.to/2Qc8q8P
You can mount it on the camera and use it as an external microphone, or instead place it near the musicians and later combine video with audio. I would prefer the second option for best results.
I wrote an article about it here: pixelfriedhof.com/index.php/fotografie/242-zoom-h2n-as-an-external-microphone-on-the-dslr
I hope this helps you to get better results.
Best regards from germany and have a nice new year 2020!

You're welcome. Happy to see this tutorial helped!
when you shoot at 4k video I see a hand shaking icon at the left of the screen. What does it mean? And another question, does the nikon z50 (camera with the same sensor) take better quality video using more pixels at 4k without the 1.5 crop factor? What is your opinion. Thank you
Thank you
