Jason crying over that feeling was cathartic. That's what keeps the wheels turning. Much love. ❤ Thank You Skateboarding 🛹 just getting back into it at 28 and learned backside kickturn on a Quarter recently. Shoutout all the homies i skate with that keep my confidence up. All love out here.
For sure it is. And congrats my friend on your progress. But always remember, it's not so much the tricks as much as the ride. That flowing sensation of bombing a nice big smooth hill..... MAN THAT'S A RUSH!! Tighten your trucks if you decide to attempt it though. Speed wobbles are NOT MERCIFUL!!😶🤣😂
@BrianPayne-ef6kn Grosso : "yeah like, so how do you get out of speed wobbles"? Nuge : " that's the hardest trick to land, fuck....like I don't know".
"I'm the only 52 year old in the world who can do a backside 540 *double bird* google me" - Jason Ellis....that needs to be a screenshot double bird and blown up huge. That is so well deserved and so epic. Good on you mate. #1.
I am so happy for Jason. Couldn’t nt relate more, skateboarding has always been there for me and sometimes landing a trick is so much more than just "landing a trick".
@cactuspat8051 I roll some and film for a few friends, but my body and joints are destroyed. I forget and try something simple and end up messing up my elbow or ankles every time and out for months.
This was a great episode. I’m so stoked for Jason and I’m glad that 540 meant so much to him and allowed him to start another chapter in his life. Until the wheels fall off Jason!!! 🤘🏽Ride on dude!!!
It was Tony and everyone else back then. Bob burnquest, Andy Mac, bucky, Jason, Rune so many others the late 90s early 2000's SPORTS in general had the ONE GUY and everyone else but MAN those everyone else's would that ONE GUY in every other era
@@human_cubetony because of Powell. Bucky though was upthere too. Tony Magnusson, Chris Miller, bob buntquist, Alphonso Rawls (they spoke about him), Danny way, David McKay.. to name a few.
Skateboarding is such an intense sport, it’s the best metaphor for dealing with the rest of life. You’re such a strong dude and I love the emotion and stoke. I hope everything else in your life is okay man. ❤
I had back problems and arthritis in my lower back SINCE 6th GRADE and I only started skating 2.5 years ago. I can now put on my socks no problem, run uninhibited, my core strength and balance is insane- all because of skateboarding. Skating is seriously one of the best things anyone could ever start to do- at any age.
Jason new attitude toward skating is even more inspiring then ever. To hear a legit pro/legend talk about the technical aspects of trying to get back into skating is super cool. It makes it so much more relatable, a lot of times these legends come back and start skating again like not much time has passed. It's like 'riding a bike' except skateboarding is nothing like that for most of us, so to open up about the difficulties in getting back to your form is really cool to hear. Even just applying that same mentality and adjusting our form to go along with our physical abilities would help a lot of people. I think even at younger ages we self sabotage by comparing ourselves to ourselves at our 'prime' even if that prime was never very good. I know I probably do that, at least subconsciously. As soon as I get on a skateboard I want to get off because it's just embarrassing, but that attitude isn't going to get me anywhere!
Damnit Ellis im crying in my damn tacos wanting to go skate now.i have been looking for that feeling in all the wrong places.when it has been right there the whole time .
🤦 It was a spontaneous show for Jason's 540 so yes, they would talk to Jason about his 540. Bucky was at ramp they had been skating. They are all friends talking... How are people not comprehending?
YESSSSSS!! Bucky was my very first favorite skateboarder when I was 8 years old, 24 short years ago lol. I think it was mainly because I liked his named haha but he is such a skateboarding legend and he has a dope ass STI he built. Happy to say I am still a fan to this day. Great ep 👏🏼
I'm just here to say that I was on the treadmill at the gym tearing up listening to Jason talk about skating. It seriously is the best fucking community on the planet. We all just want each other to succeed, and the confidence that it gives all of us can never be overstated. Congrats J, we love you.
Yes BUCKY!!! You are a legend!! And Jason, congrats on the 540, clearly it means alot more than i will ever know.. However it would mean a lot to me if you had Rune Glifberg as a guest at some point in time.. Thx for making this podcast guys and girls!
That was powerful. So relatable. I was a vert skater that went to college far away and with no access to vert. The next summer, I went home and had a 540 battle at Transitions. Did my first and only full-blown 540 over coping. Went back to college satisfied, pumped. I'm 52 now. After this episode, I ALMOST want to try them again! E
Not nearly as gnarly as a 540 but I have a flat bar rail I modified recently to be less sketchy, and now I conquered my fear of doing 5-0s and nose grinds on it. I resonate with Jason so hard on that feeling of pushing through your limits!
I'm a truck driver and watch yall every Monday at around 2am cst. I was off this week n just watched this episode today. I really hope Jason reads this. When he got emotional, I cried w him. I know that feeling. I'm 42 and haven't sk8ed hard in 10 years. Work, kids, whatever, excuse are like assholes. But I know exactly what he is saying and feeling. Not many people feel that way about skateboarding. Just the real skaters! I don't personally believe all pros feel the love for skateboarding that Jason does. It never came easy for him like it does for some. I've never been close to professional level, but the feeling of skateboarding saved his life, is something I know all to well. His emotions is something you can't "act". That was real! Much love Jason. I love Hawk vs Wolf, and thank you for all you guys do for skateboarding!
Awesome show! At 50, I just got my Airwalk, one-foot and Madonna to tails back so know that feeling😁. Never did a 5 so will leave that to Ellis! Legend on getting the 5 back dude!
I’m 31 and getting back into skateboarding and now I’m better than I ever was. Thank you Jason and tony for everything you guys do. I love skateboarding and you guys are a big reason for that
16:16 The Caleb o rotation is real with this group of gents . Crazy we get to live with our grown up hero’s . Serious though , tribal podcast , watching this real content sends us out into the world stoked .
I was fully welling up as Jason was. I totally get it. The love, the fear, the frustration, the joy, the accomplishment, the pain, the absolute life and death of it all. I’m so stoked for you Jason, so so sooooooo stoked ❤️❤️❤️
I love this podcast so much. I'm 42 and getting older sucks. But the positivity from these dudes is infectious. No toxic bro shit. Just genuine dudes being real. Fucking love this.
Another great podcast! I have to say most people will never understand that feeling of pulling off a vert trick. When you are by yourself or only a handful of friends seeing you make it. The joy of finally making it after many bails/slams! I am sure the feeling is similar to a touchdown in the Super Bowl.
OMG I want to thank Tony Hawk for going on hot ones which in turn brought me to this podcast. Tony I have been a fan since back in the day playing your video game, buckey you were the character I always played with in Tony's game. And last but definitely not least Ellis mate... I got a Sirius xm for my car and was introduced to the Ellis show which was the best show on all Sirius channels by far. I was sad when they canceled you and that was when I canceled them. Now you are in a way better situation and I look forward to binge watching all the videos on this channel. Red Dragons! 🤟
Im a 48 year old Aussie, A lot of the stuff you guys talked about really hit home back on my board after 20 years of only skating here and there feeling hurt each day but just turning up and skating . Being scared and average when I never was. I'm not a vert skater but always said I would never give up before I pulled a 540 this episode made me think I might just be a 52 year olde dude that 540s thanks guys. Cheers Bruce.
I involuntarily leapt out of my seat when I saw Ellis land a 540. 😮 Well done. I only wish a camera could capture how terrifying it is just to think about attempting such a maneuver let alone succeeding at it. Very inspiring.
That 540 was perfect as well. Looks 6ft out and a slow rotation. Landed just below the coping. That was proper. Just the few clips I've seen of Ellis over the last couple of years show how good he looks on a board. Style for miles.
I feel Jason’s emotions. Even though, I don’t have friends who have my back while building my confidence. Like so many others like me, It’s only up to ourselves to build our own confidence. Jason having his trusting friends to help build his confidence is awesome. I felt that.
Hell yeah Jason! 😃👍 I called in on your radio show on XM years ago. To tell you you were one of my favorite vert skaters. I had no idea at the time you really did not want to hear about skating. After reading your book and Listening to you talk about skating I might not have made that call if I knew it would upset you. Now it doesn’t matter, you’re back at skating man. Makes me 😃 👍 I was also the guy that pretended to Be Dave Mustaine on the day you made fun of Dave Mustaine and called up to say F YOU GUYS and then hung up on you 😂 So there’s that. Glad you hit the 540 man 😃👍 The show is awesome guys 👍
I already always been a big Bucky fan (met him at Cheap Skates like 20-25 years ago via my old friend Darren Menditto), but when Jason got choked up and Bucky put his hand on his shoulders in support .... man I got choked up FOR Jason, and now just love Bucky even more for that. Also SOO stoked and proud for Jason! If this didn't hit your heartstrings, check for a pulse, you're dead inside! JASON WE FUCKING LOVE YOU MAN!!!

Congratulations to Jason. Bucky Lasek's You Tube channel is good. "Getting Buck" with Bucky Lasek. Saw him with Stacey showing the process of putting graphics on the boards.
Ellis talking about his 540 was moving as hell, I’m 47 and I recently had a very similar experience with crooked grinds on this little bank to ledge at my local. I broke the ankle on my front foot three years ago, since then, I just haven’t had the confidence locking in on nose tricks. Battled that trick for like three sessions and when I finally got it, let’s just say I totally understand Wolf getting choked up over a skateboard trick!
Back in like 93, I went down to the Tampa Pro/Am contest with my friend Andy Stone and Reese Forbes who rode for Element, who Jason also skated for. Jason Ellis shared the room with us. I saw him the first day then never saw him again.
we fucking love you, Ellis! thanks for sharing your thoughts & feelings with us, man - seeing how passionate you are for certain aspects of life makes the world a less painful place for me, and i'm sure plenty of others.
