Bucky made me interested in skateboarding as a kid. Went to the Vans triple crown in Cleveland in 1999 and saw him win 2nd in vert. After the contest we saw Bucky walking behind the ramp and we walked over and asked for autographs. He was super kind and excited to sign our boards, he asked my older brother to hold his 2nd place trophy that he just won while he was signing our stuff. I'll never forget it. Bucky rules

Hawk's vert is made after the Hägernäs vert! That we skated at Eurocana Summer Camp in Stockholm in the 80's. McGill did his first McTwist on it and Hawk did his first 720 on it!! And today that vert is in Örebro, Sweden with new sheets of course!! 😀

I was a manager at GI Joes at the time and we all got free pairs.. it was sick!! Super nice dude! Met him again years later at rally.. I was a team manager for a Subaru USA team and they would always put us next tot he "big boys"...... still a chill dude years later!

Shot tons of footy; heard that Bucky kept crossing the street by the shop to trip out over cars stopping for a pedestrian. Skated behind him on route from shop to street demo course, and let me tell you, his street game was every bit as good as his ramp game. Hung out with him, Chet and the local team gods until 3am, listened to his observations about differences between canadian and american pronunciation and didn't even care about getting grounded. One of the greatest weekends of my life. I should put that stuff up on my channel, hope the tapes are still somewhat readable

never seen a skater before perform at such a high level at such an advanced age. even more impressive than tony hawk in my book. only bummer is that his memory is shot - you can tell that his head got knocked around maybe a few too many times.
Such an amazing episode listening to Bucky talk about his transition from company to company throughout his career it was very entertaining and a side of it all a lot of us have never known about.
I remember back in the 80s I seen the Powell and Peralta team do a demo with a portable steel half pipe at Henry's Bike Shop in Wilmington, Delaware. I was so mad because I lost my rector knee pads with Tony Hawk's sig.
Giant Skatepark Tour 2001 at Woodward was the first time I ever lost my voice at an event. Awesome time. I still have the poster with all the autographs now hanging in my garage.

@Daniel Hollingsworth I meant as a proportion of skaters his age. There are a lot more who have retired completely or can’t do a fraction of what they used to be able to. Vert skaters seem to be the exception - must be a lot less wear and tear on the joints than street skating.
