      that's silly.. of course there is in between. in fact a representative democracy is a perfect example of "in between". The govt dictates tyrannical stuff right now (like over taxing the entire citizenry while letting the rich off the hook). The current tyranny is merely tempered by the limited democracy we have. Id even say we are more of a tyranny than a democracy (as does groups that rate democracies)

    @rational-public-discourse Месяц назад

    The political divide was manufactured by the power elite which has been behind our nation state since the beginning. This is why the two party political system was devised. We never really had political parties where anyone can have a say and where ideas are valued based on their intellect, necessity, and practicality. Big money has long been in control of our elections and politicians. You would see unity across party lines on a variety of issues if the hegemonic corporate-state power simply allowed the public to have that voice and that input instead of the corporate world through the corporate lobbyists on K street in control of everything. We are living in madness and in a society that desperately needs structural change across the board, but you won't hear it from Breyer or ABC News.

    It would be speaking out of turn for Justice Breyer to say that the dubiousness of originalism goes beyond innocently getting it wrong, but today's court appears to use originalism as a tool for producing hand-picked partisan outcomes from manufactured contrived cases or to effect harshness on the objects of their bullying. More than ideology, it's tactical.

      @AwesomeBabyBoomer Месяц назад

      I really enjoyed reading what you wrote. However, I would have to state that at some point, one would have to conceive concede that if a person disagrees with the ruling of the courts, the courts are skewed in the wrong direction. People automatically scream that the justices are screwed in the other direction, whether they are or not.
      For me, that is what is problematic is that people have become so jaded that they are unable to stand center isle and say "Hey, we have problems on both sides of the aisle."
      We need to look to the common good of the nation rather than partisan good of the nation, and in doing so, we can move forward.

    • @rickriley9866
      @rickriley9866 Месяц назад

      It's too late. There are so many guns in this country and they're so ingrained in our culture that a ban wouldn't work. At best, it would be like the 18th Amendment all over again. Maybe it could work eventually, but it would probably take at least a century, if not more, for the guns and ammo to work their way out of the system. In the meantime, many more lives would be lost, at least some of which would be a direct result of the ban. It may not even matter as firearms could very well be obsolete by the time they're gone.

    Wrong. The court is not complicated. Should not be complex. How complex is it to uphold the Constitution and the laws of the land? Also, those Cort need to be 100% transparent. Everything needs to be on live TV and any other forgmmat. Its crazy how these group of people are allowed to decide what's best for millions of Americans, but what they do is in secret? H No. Also, they should not be appointed by anyone. They should be elected by a majority of Americans with a term of 20 years.
