- You have to wonder when the Entertainment Industry will learn that 'Cause Marketing' may not be the wisest approach to promoting a film or a TV show. A Bit of a smörgåsbord of schadenfreude. In the last 2 weeks Birds of Prey, Doctor Who, and the Oscars have set new lows. Compounded with the lessons of 2019 it appears Hollywood is losing as is The BBC. After a couple of years of shooting themselves in the foot by shooting off their mouths you think they would learn. Maybe fans don't really want to listen to professional adult pretenders, and adults who help other adults pretend professionally, complain about how hard life is. Maybe in some cases they just want to enjoy some escapism. Meanwhile, Sonic sores because director Jeff Fowler (the peoples champion) did the unthinkable and listened to the fans.

The tweet about the reasons why to watch BoP was because of the varying (non-white) identities, mentioning nothing about story, characters, or production, is highly illustrative of where Hollywood's head is at, and what the far left thinks these days. It's not about the quality of the production, it's about how much non-white diversity can be crammed into making the films. It seems to me that virtually no effort is put into making a good film with these people anymore.

I was simply stating that these feminist films generally do not do well, are specifically made to insult men who then choose not to attend, and as a result many of them do very poorly in ticket sales. That scenario is completely "believable" and is exactly what we are seeing right now with Birds of Prey. And yeah, I happen to think that is a terrible marketing strategy that completely turns off up to half of your potential audience and I for one will certainly not be seeing any of this type of anti male film. But hey, they can get woke and go broke (or at least lose a ton of money like BoP), for all I care.

Everyone calls it an "agenda" or "political" but by this point it's much more of an undiagnosed collective sexual psychosis of the entire Western media.
No, they did not know it. If you are living in a circle-jerk of people that say "yes" for any crap you come up with, you have lost your sense of reality. Especially if they pay each other millions for producing such crap. --- Normal people like to exchange ideas with people who can think for themselves. That way your ideas get to be improved by other people adding their wisdom to the project, or the idea gets shelved when your "sounding board" of "critical thinking" unveils unremovable obstacles.
Remember a critic plays with ideas and NOT the people the ideas came from. The best advice or critic is coming from friends who are not afraid to tell you the flaws of your thinking. I'm forever grateful for any such friends that prevent me from making a fool out of myself!

It's wonderful that 2 films at polar opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of how they managed fan interactions are released at the same time: Sonic and BoP.

Basic Marketing: The people who generally buy your product and consume the most of your product should be your target audience! And if you produce a good product, people outside your main target audience will try it too! I worked in advertising and if I presented a proposal to a client in which I said "We are going to ignore your company's history, we are going to replace your most loved products by new untested products for another target audience that will likely not consume as much of it, and when your existing clients complain we'll just call them names", all people in the room would (rightfully) think I'd gone insane and kick me out. But that's exactly what these companies have done. Such a screw-up is just scandalous.
I only eat in restaurants that are brave enough to tell customers they're bigots if they complain about the food being cold. It's a great business model.

I think I've seen you around before. Saying you're not a fan of Carrey in a rude fashion. Now while I won't tell you who you can and can't like, I will say that I already saw Sonic and enjoyed it for exactly what it was. A silly kids movie.
And to be clear I never liked Sonic, never liked the games nor his character (thought he was an awful douche). I went to see it simply because I wanted to show my support for Paramount and I haven't seen wacky Carrey in like a decade. And they surprised me with making Sonic lovable, adorable, and someone to root for. So if you don't wanna see it because you don't think it will be good or because you don't like Carrey, then I hope you are a fan of Sonic. Because if you are, than you probably won't like how the movie portrays him in which case, smart move skipping it.

Birds of Prey failed because it had nothing to do with the actual Birds of Prey comic. Just put the comic book and its characters on the screen. Stop changing what already works.

I don't think fans should be entitled towards anything really. The fan isn't ALWAYS right and if fans always got what they wanted, quite a few franchises would have died instead of innovating and keeping with the times. A good example of this in my opinion is Doctor Who (prior to the garbage Jodie seasons), the original seasons of doctor who are vastly different to 'New Who' but I prefer some of the later seasons over the original ones. If the fans always got what they wanted, Doctor Who probably would have died, but thanks to its creators innovating it in certain areas and staying through to the original in others, it brought in a new audience with New Who and a new fanbase while still being enjoyed by previous fans.
I don't think any creator/writer/director should feel that they need to do what the fans want in a series. I might not enjoy what they do with it AS a fan, but good movies and TV are usually made by creators who have put some love into their work. Usually when creators are too caught up in doing what the fans want, we get a poor and very sterile product. Entitlement is never something that should be encouraged and I honestly can't stand people who feel that way. We should have the right to express our opinion and the right to not be generalized and criticized by a large corporation of sex offenders and privileged actresses (I am aware that I am generalizing myself, but that's fine when talking about corporations like Hollywood. It doesn't exactly make sense to defend corps such as Verizon and Nestle because they have a nice janitor for example). The issue I have is when the creators motives is not to make a good product but to influence, politically and culturally or when the creator actually dislikes the product they are working on. Creators shouldn't have to listen to what the fans want, but creators should want to work with their franchise and want to make something entertaining, they should WANT to please the fans even if they don't listen to them. But when creators take a franchise to be woke then it's not ok.

I must have been dreaming when I grew up, watching shows and movie starring women, for women, by women, and nobody cared. People only care when you push your politics into it. Actually, we did care, because we thought Samuel L Jackson was perfect for the roll. Many of us thought Black Widdow needed a movie a decade ago, and we judge movies by their own merits. People who expect us to judge anything based on race are racist. People who expect us to judge anything based on gender are sexist.
This message will fall on the ears of the choir, and on deaf ears. Nobody is listening from the other side, because if they were, this argument wouldn’t be happening. Nothing will change their minds. So we must ignore them. Channels like this cannot make that choice, because money. BoP is the first DCEU movie I haven’t seen in theaters. I made that decision the first time I saw the trailers. It didn’t interest me. Still looking forward to Suicide Squad...again.

You should do a short documentary about "go woke go broke" and the examples of failure thanks to propaganda, agenda and good examples were females have major protagonism (Madmax furiosa for example) and leader roles and are good pieces of entertainment.

With how immediate fan feedback can be I think an interesting experiment a streaming series could attempt would be a mass vote for a choose your own adventure show where at then end of an episode fans would be given a poll for what direction to take the story and the writers would then have to go that direction. The episodes would probably be spaced 2 to 3 weeks apart, but still it could be a fascinating experience.

Looks like women don’t like feminist movies.
Women as a whole are not a huge demographic for super hero movies. Or action movies in general. Yeah, there are some but those genre;'s have always appealed more to men. but Hollywood clearly wants to bring more women into those films. And that in and of itself isn't a bad thing. but they think that if they put a female lead on a movie with a genre that traditionally doesn't bring a lot of female viewers in, and then promote it with "girl power... RAH RAH RAY" that women who had no interest in such a movie before will suddenly be compelled to flock into the theater to see it. And it has been shown time and time again they won't. Women don't have less interest in superhero films solely because a female isn't starring in them, they are not interested because they don't like the genere. Just putting a woman in the main role and saying "see... see... vagina" doesn't change the fact that they will still see a superhero movie and pass for all the same reasons they have passed before.
In the description it should say, "Sonic soars" not "Sonic sores". Yes, I read the description and yes, I am a grammar Nazi. (The best kind of Nazi)

Imagine how much more money Sonic could have made if Jim Carrey hadn't spouted hatred for years towards movie patrons he disagreed with politically.
No more, no more money. The people who cared about this stupid culture war crap already forgave him the second supporting his film helped their agenda (I.E. "humiliate" Birds of Prey which is apparently the most evil film ever to grace our theaters). The fact the same people who wanted to take down Sonic because Jim Carey said political things they didn't agree with and Gasp... was mean about Trump (no one else ever did that in hollywood so clearly it is shocking when he did it I guess). But the movie came out a week after sonic and did real good, so we can rub it int he evil Birds of Prey's face... all is forgiven. A testement to the rediculous nonsense this whole thing is.
Whenever you need "here is why X is actually good" campaigns, you know it's something of truly exceptional quality worth throwing money at.
