That foam cover that nathan pulled off is called a vapour barrier. The purpose is to prevent moisture from entering the cabin when it rains/when you wash your car by keeping water flowing straight down the inside of the door to the drains, rather than pooling on your door sills and getting soaked up by your carpets. I wouldn't be surprised if 50% of e36s e46s and e39s have mould in the carpets due to this issue.
Then it must be very well GLUED at the bottom,otherwise the water will run down IT,and get inside the car!!! Never really understood the function of that thing;
Oh,by the way,i use DUCT TAPE to glue it back to the door itself (the black "goo" never re-sticks again)..
Thanks very much for posting. I found the problem, a busted bolt at the bottom of the regulator, but I had never taken a beemer door card off before. Got the window in place so it will stay and I'll make an appointment with the garage to get another regulator put in. Won't tackle that part of it myself because I did so on a Pontiac one time and life is too short! lol!
How did you get the glass out? There's a huge plate with 2 square nuts on it that I can't figure out how to get off the window. It's twice as big as the opening in the top of the door, so it has to come off. You didn't even mention it. It's the only reason I'm checking the internet now.
Good job on what we did get to see but a lot was left out and still video was a bit long for this level of job but I still found it useful and gave thumbs up, so thanks for posting. Just a little constructive criticism, don't get mad. ;)
again, you did too much of the work off camera and we missed out on how "install" the regulator. i need to see how you handle any hick ups along the way.
Why would you not use RivNuts instead of bolts and nuts?
Hello, My e36 too is having the same issue but the main problem i have is the rail, each time i fixed the fibre/slider, and i tired to wind-up, the window moved away from the rail. Also, it is a kind of stiff too whenever i am trying to pull the glass up manually. Mostly, it is usually impossible.
Any link for the window track retainer clips?
Anyone have an idea what size bolts to replace those stupid rivets with? New regulator comes Tuesday, sigh.
ok nice video!! but i cannot find how remove rear door window e36 sedan!!!! mayby some video??!!
What do I do if the window is stuck down all the way ?
I replaced new window mechanism and new mechanism slider guides replace window seal I adjusted the bolt for the mechanism 1 million times and I aligned the window in tracks but still the window pulls skew I think bmw E36 is junk because doesn't matter what you do the window always goes skew
great job and presentation as always
Would the regulator for the sedan would be the same as the convertible
Probably not. I would imagine coupes and convertibles would have the same but sedans would be smaller because the doors are shorter.
Keep them coming nathan!
Why the he'll would that be riveted on in the first place ,don't tell me it comes from factory like that ?
very common problem sadly. thx for the video.
Dose this method work the same for the 318ti
Yes , e36 sedans and 318ti share a lot of parts
i just did this job and now my window arms pop out of the white sliders i have tried everythig what am i missing
matt austin find a solution? I'm having the same problem.
either window is off track or its not inserted properly into clip
Funny this has been my problem for weeks
So you actually didn't replace the regulator. Wrong title on video.
Video shows a new window regulator being installed, what’d you miss from this guys video?Lol
your drill bit is too big. try using a smaller bit and the whole rivet will pop out
What the fuck is this hahahaha, how is it so long when you skip the actual work?
Would've been good to see you ACTUALLY do things.
