He made that video years ago, the short answer is yes and no. The quality is indeed better but slightly worse than solovair and it’s more expensive, so it’s still a bad value shoes
Correction on the factory thing; Modern MIE Docs are actually made in the same original DM factory that DMs have always been made in, but in the 80's and 90's they also made Docs in the NPS factory (Solovair) so they could meet demand, so actually both DMs and Solovair use original factories and machinery. If anything Docs are marginally more authentic. The big difference is that Solovair employs the same people who've been making these boots for decades, wheras DMs are mostly made by young apprentices who are entering the footwear industry. It means DMs won't have the problem of an aging workforce down the line. My source is my wife who worked in the DMs head office for a couple of years.
Here’s the thing, I own two pairs of Docs, Asian made 101s and made in England 1460s. I had to exchange the English ones 3 times to the different severe quality control issues. Literally the Asian made 101s are much better made (externally) and more comfortable than the 1460s, which were almost double the price of the Asian made pair. Also those 101s in waxed leather lasted waaay longer than the Thursday Boots Captain Storm Kings in tobacco, for less than a half of the price. I don’t think that the Asian docs are as bad as people say, at least the crazy horse 101s. Also their customer service is miles ahead of the joke which Thursday Boots was when I had to deal with them 2 years ago. As long as you don’t pay full price for the Asian made ones and don’t get some weird synthetic or coated leather they should be more than okay and last quite long.
I think, and I may be wrong. But the beads are to protect the tip of the knife. Examples may include Pushing the bead into the bottom of of a knife sheath to keep the tip from.pokiing through(it happens, trust me). In a drawer it protects the tip getting dulled.
15:08 I need to correct you on this one I work with leather myself And this lightening up happens on a lot of full grain leathers to Especially if they are oily or waxy For example my maryam Horsebutt full grain hide oder my tempesti full grain shoulder have the same effect It is not an appropriate test for full grain or not
The beads on the ends of lanyards on a knife are used to extend the handle on smaller knives or for people with large hands so you can get a sturdier grip.
Back in the 90s Doc made straight up affordable work boots a la Wolverine in that $80-150 category. They looked wild. Look up the Doc Marten Ironbridge. Met guard and everything.
Years back when You bought and cut up the different Dr. Martens ... I did get a pair of the Hard Life which are no longer made and no I don't wear them daily. They are OK ... and better than the smooth looking cheap ones. I must have gotten them on close out ... they were under $100. I'm older now and semi retired so I don't wear boots every day like I used to.
The leather on those 1460s does look really nice. Hopefully the build lives up to the rest of them. It's still a shame they haven't found a way to keep it iconic but make them easier to resole, because that leather with proper care will way outlast that outsole
I would like to see both pairs cut in half to see how well they are made. I have the new C F Stead Stone Rambler leather in my new Thursday Challenger boots. It looks great and can't wait to see how it ages.
Congrats on your Challengers! Commander and Rambler are similar but different. Rambler is a flesh out leather. Lots of veins and knots and character marks. Commander is a smooth suede that's shrunken down to avoid stretching and is completely waterproof. In terms of thickness they're the same, Enjoy the new boots!
1:16 "more manly?" what style is The Dock Martin? A lot of people associate it with a combat style. It might be an accurate, but if we are just talking about styles, combat seems kind of manly.
I have no trouble tying Docs tight (No skinny ankle syndrome). Dont forget to do a little research before filming, you could have learned that waxy Commander was actually commissioned by DM when they needed a heavy waxed suede for some of their boots in the 1990s. So DM IS the reason that 5oz suede tannage exists. It's commonly used by Parkhurst, occasionally by Truman boot, and even Nicks is now running a limited edition in that suede. No point in cutting them apart, DM has used examples of good leather for a long time. I have a pair of 1461 Bluchers in Horween English Tan Dublin. Paid half price for them on the DM website, where it's fairly common to see some of the more expensive boots marked down pretty significantly. For $125 I have no complaints at all. They still use synthetic materials and still don't have a shank, so at the end of the day things are about the same as the time the dead horse was being beaten to a pulp early on in your RUclips career. Which is fine, I don't think that many people watched those videos and expected that DM to produced a especially high quality boot, I certainly didn't. I have boots from Truman, Bordon, and Nick's, and I still like my Docs. But they are a style boot, and always have been...
12:20 LOOK INTO RIOS OF MERCEDES OR BLACK JACK. A lot of Rios have rubber sole, square or wide round toes, and are very high quality all leather construction
Got the hardie. The horse one. I like them. Want a size smaller though. They're heavy af from the thick rubber sole. So smaller size is less weight. The hardie 2 seems like the sole is less rubber so might be better.
Thank you for the unboxing clip. I would love to see both pairs get cut up. Just a side note, docs also make a gaucho leather boot. Also, solovair make full grain gaucho boots as well and greasy full grain leather boots. Thanks. 👍
Im really interested. The good side of docks that puts them over the other stuff is that their soles are oil resistant, making them not slip in oily places like bar, kitchen and similar
I've got a similar older pair of China Doc wellingtons. They are from around 2008 or whenever I saw that they offered Wide size, I went with them on a lark. The sole is the old style star lug, but they got hard over the years, and provide near zero traction when it is cold, worse if ice and snow are involved. I went at them with a rasp to sorta sipe the tread and that helped a bit. The leather has held up fine, but I did give them a heavy wax job for water resistance once upon a time. I've considered giving them a better sole and insoles. I have to look and see if I have any leather for Welts. My very old Doc Oxfords (1990s made in Merry Ol') did decent as my first attempt at a pair of resoles.
They are some good looking boots, I just don't know if they have done enough to persuade me to buy from them again. After all, there are a lot of good boots out there.
Interested in the 1460 waxed commander boot for my better half. She grew up with Doc Martens. Interested in seeing them cut in half before I purchase for her.
Just got a pair of Wax Commanders three weeks ago. Identical. Tough cookie to crack, maybe half way to break them in. And kinda small. Ussualy size 10 feels bigger. Great boot, nice to wear.
The Waxed Commander is no joke. Ar 2mm it's 5oz suede or thereabouts. It's also shrunk down 25% at the factory and waterproof. I know Nick's is doing a limited run in that suede, I'm pretty sure they didn't use any upper materials that suck.... I definitely expect some break in on those boots. Keep at it!
You should try the safety footwear from Dr Martens and try to find a real pull up boot. Unfortunately it's not available everywhere, for instance I have no access to their safety line from the French website. I had one pair once when I was working overseas it was provided by my employer, I gave them to one of my local worker when I finished the job.
Even though I know they aren't maybe the best quality, I have some Dr Martens Combs and I just really love the style of them. I also have a pair of Thursday boots and I end up wearing my Doc's way more.
These look a LOT like the “Doc Martens Industrial” line of boots they discontinued a few years back. They weren’t made in England but had much heavier leather, the deeper lug outsole, stiffer construction etc. they were lined with a sort of sock material through the full boot however.
Ooh, repping Thrice in the BladeHQ video. Love to see it. Those 1460 Waxy Commanders look kinda good, though I'd personally have preferred a single colour for all of the stitching.
In the 80's-90's these were the rage. Everyone was wearing them (but me). I view them just like Chuck T's. They're uncomfortable, and wear out super fast. Maybe the MIE version could be good!? Looking forward to the cut, haha.
Doc Marten does or did make a great Wellington boot that was 10” or 11”. I loved the soft toe version for riding my motorcycle. Padded sides of the ankle. Side pull tabs. Good all around shit kickers.
Didn't doc martens have a line for a little bit of the made in England with horween leather? I remember really wanting a pair. But I want to say this was already a couple years ago or more.
A few years ago I bought a pair of Docs made with Horween Chromexel #8 leather, which is how I think I found this channel. Every time I wear them I get complements as they stand out from the plastic like leathers they use these days. The only thing I don't like about Docs is their lack of half sizes, they always feel like I'm wearing clown shoes. Also they need better insoles.
Yes cut up the CF Stead I have to know if they improved the foot bed structure. I like the leather of course but if it is same crap under the foot then it's a no go for me.
You should do a review of the new Jim Green rangers, the gusseted tongue came up all the way to top and I was having such issues trying to get mine on I very carefully cut mine down to like the third eyelet. I wanna see what you guys think
I would buy the drifter 3.0 if the undertone was yellow, I would also buy a pair of RoseAnvil™ leather suspenders if they made them. (I believe in you)
Cut em! I was so close to buying a pair a few weeks ago before i found your chanel. The only thing i dont like is that 3d printed looking sole, if it werent for that i woulda dropped 300ish on em already.
Do you know anything about hainseworth wool? Deciding between a classic maple suede wallabee or the limited camel wool option made with hainseworth wool
Cut both, can you also review "steel-boots" They make boots that look like Dr martens. They have been making boots for 20 years in SLOVENSKO from what their website says. Im very curious what their quality is like
How do the Dr Martens Wax Commander boots fit you in size 10? You mentioned your brannock size is 10. I am 9.5 on the brannock and wondering if I should go for size 9 or 10.
If I want that style I will go for the Origin boots but I have a pair doc’s that I only wear in the winter here in Cali but I do want a pair of origin’s
yo, do a wear test/review with the CF.stead wax commander . they do look good and I'm not just saying that because you said it. they genuinely stand out amongst Doc's where each design is already trying to stand out. "sneakers in the shape of boots" is a good analogy. I , however don't think Dr.martens is going to be putting that or anything else you've said in previous videos as part of their copy written advertisement (pronounced the british way. with the emphasis on *vert instead of "IZE in -Isement) but this video you were quite kind. I won't be surprised to see a Dr.Marten x Rose Anvil collaboration ... that's when you will see you just one batch of well made boots bro. and they can't hold you guilty for airing out their shitty practices ', I mean they have to understand everybody takes a run at the king. and they are the biggest players; playing the game. TLDR, like to see more about the Waxcomado boots and wouldn't be opposed to. you selling out to a collab with DMxRA its in your DNA.
I’ve seen the made in England with horween leather, did not know about these cf stead ones! I didn’t want to buy docs unless it was one of those leathers…
I love that even on sponsored vids…. You’re not scared of telling the truth, even if it’s pointing put flaws. Doc Martens you listening? Make a $350ish version of boots…. Taking into account everything Rose Anvil says… yes it will cost you like probably $100 more in production, but I’d be first inline to buy a pair. Maybe call them like an extreme line. Shit it’d be willing to pay $400 if done right. No BS. You seem to be stepping up your game with these and that’s great, but you’re leaving money on the table here. Probably millions. No joke.
If you did a "good" Dr Martin colab I would buy them. I love the look but I killed a pair in 8 months. I would pay double to have a pair worth resoling not just trash canning.
Get the Rose Anvil x White's Drifter 3.0 in Blood Core leather now why they are in stock - bit.ly/4hdn8qv
I liked the concept of the drifter 3.0 but really require a protective toe.
the wax commanders need to see the bandsaw!
About a half dozen passes so they don't take up too much room in the trash can.
You should cut the made in England pair in half. A title like “did Dr. Martin’s redeem their boots?” Would probably work
He made that video years ago, the short answer is yes and no.
The quality is indeed better but slightly worse than solovair and it’s more expensive, so it’s still a bad value shoes
CF Stead makes some beautiful suede. The leather alone take these Docs to another level
Agreed. Super excited for the Rose Anvil x Goral collab of the CF Stead suede smugs coming soon.

Those are the best looking docs I've seen in a long time. I love that leather with that commander sole. Would like to see the inside of them
Yes 1460 Wax Commander looks very interesting ! I want to know if it's worth buying
Here’s the thing, I own two pairs of Docs, Asian made 101s and made in England 1460s. I had to exchange the English ones 3 times to the different severe quality control issues. That blood red leather is so sick!!! Need those boots. Lower cut style though
I think, and I may be wrong. But the beads are to protect the tip of the knife. Examples may include Pushing the bead into the bottom of of a knife sheath to keep the tip from.pokiing through(it happens, trust me). In a drawer it protects the tip getting dulled.
Cut up the CF Stead boot!
So weird.. I was looking at these exact boots on Doc’s website last night
Commander actually looks very good. I'm really looking forward to have this cut in half.
15:08
I need to correct you on this one
I work with leather myself
And this lightening up happens on a lot of full grain leathers to
Especially if they are oily or waxy
For example my maryam Horsebutt full grain hide oder my tempesti full grain shoulder have the same effect
It is not an appropriate test for full grain or not
After I washing my boot, should I recondition my boot of just polish with leather balm? Need your suggest
@@thrashsis after washing it I would apply leather balm👍🏻
Can't wait to see if anything changed with the 1460s, since I wanna get some quality boots, but can't stop thinking of the docs silhouette
Solovair is your best bet for a "good" doc style combat. They have a shank which docs doesn't do
The beads on the ends of lanyards on a knife are used to extend the handle on smaller knives or for people with large hands so you can get a sturdier grip.

Those are the Soles Im used to. You are making me want a pair of these. I HATE the new sole pattern
The beeps sound really nice. So it's super cool when you use words that you know you will be beeped in the editing process.
Yes please cut them apart!!!!! I miss your Dr Martens videos
Dr. Martin’s greasy and Napa leather is actually pretty good. It’s not fancy but it molds and hold his shape pretty well.

and if you ever did a collaboration of a high quality boot in the 1460 commander style, I would buy a pair.
Just got a pair of Wax Commanders three weeks ago. Identical.
Tough cookie to crack, maybe half way to break them in.
And kinda small. Ussualy size 10 feels bigger. Great boot, nice to wear.

That Waxy Commander suede is absolutely gorgeous, kinda think I need something made in that
im a dedicated Redbacks guy but id love to see that 1460 Wax Commander cut open it looks great
You should do a foot shaped "shit kicker". That could be the angle.
If you do cut them up and those CF Stead Doc Marts are actually good, I might actually consider getting a pair
Dude, video on that one handed lacing style you showed a small bit of please!
Gotta love the self promotion haha. They also have an MIE Chelsea in the Waxy Commander that's arguably the best looking of the Stead offerings.
In the 80's-90's these were the rage. Everyone was wearing them (but me). I view them just like Chuck T's. They're uncomfortable, and wear out super fast. Maybe the MIE version could be good!? Looking forward to the cut, haha.
i got a pair of M.I.E 1461 phoenix with a bump toe with CF Stead leather. it has fully leather lining, the quality is so nice.
That lace up version is super sharp! Its hard to get past the association they carry here in the states but this looks like a good try.
Doc Marten does or did make a great Wellington boot that was 10” or 11”. I loved the soft toe version for riding my motorcycle. Padded sides of the ankle. Side pull tabs. Good all around shit kickers.
I actually really like how the anistone looks. Wonder how they fit?

So Kershaw started making a not-quite Benchmade Axis lock? I might kinda want one…
If possible it would be interesting to Test - Review Dr Martens "INDUSTRIAL" Boots -shoes , The "Industrials " where discontinued years ago .
The Anistone look like something I'd go for
Yes cut up the CF Stead I have to know if they improved the foot bed structure. I like the leather of course but if it is same crap under the foot then it's a no go for me.

Cut em! I was so close to buying a pair a few weeks ago before i found your chanel. The only thing i dont like is that 3d printed looking sole, if it werent for that i woulda dropped 300ish on em already.
I had a pair of goodyear welt doc martens before, its discontinued though.
The wax commander ones look really interesting. Unfortunately I don’t really trust DMs. They don’t make good boots because they don’t have to.
Great vid as always, we need to find out if those 1460 finally got a shank!
um of course they didn't!
Are the Wax Commander's built on the vintage 59 last or the comfort last (with built in foam insole and longer toe box) ?
Could you potentially dye the wax commander black even if they are waxed?
Do you know anything about hainseworth wool? Deciding between a classic maple suede wallabee or the limited camel wool option made with hainseworth wool
The Anistone look great, might have to replace my redbacks
Cut both, can you also review "steel-boots" They make boots that look like Dr martens. They have been making boots for 20 years in SLOVENSKO from what their website says. Im very curious what their quality is like
I needa see a doc vs solovair video, honestly thought about getting solovair over docs these days
what size do you normally wear? I normally wear 11 but was thinking of sizing down 10 cause I do want them to big/loose fitting
Nice going as always. 🎉 Now let’s open up the CF ones
Damn those Dr Martens are gorgeous, would even consider buying them if it's more than just better leather for the top
Is there a shoe polish that doesn't cover the patina? Like colorless polish?
Also is their Crazy Horse Craft leather any good?
Just ordered the Wax Commander. I have the 1460 Snowplow. That's a specially treated crazy horse leather. Anyone know the thickness of that?
How do the Dr Martens Wax Commander boots fit you in size 10? You mentioned your brannock size is 10. I am 9.5 on the brannock and wondering if I should go for size 9 or 10.
If I want that style I will go for the Origin boots but I have a pair doc’s that I only wear in the winter here in Cali but I do want a pair of origin’s
I want to know if they have a shank
What striped double knee pants are you wearing?
Love the knife and DM boots. Also find it funny you wanted a more manly boot but also like knives covered in sprinkles. We are complex creatures.
They call that doughnut design the dessert warrior lol that’s cool I’m not the only knife nut that’s into boots as well 😅
Drifter 3s are cool but you said Bear Slayers in blood bison (not sure if you actually confirmed it) but THAT'S the one for me
Are these models made in UK or overseas?
What do you constantly look up at?
Please please please do the Thursday challenger stone rambler using the same tannery.....pretty please?
I have worn Nick's Builder Pros and Redwing Iron Rangers, both are easier to break in than Docs.
I used to enjoy the original 1460 boots made in England. So, I would be very interested to see how these compare on the inside. Please cut in half.
Dang, those 1460's look good. Chop them up so I can see if they're worth it!
Since its moctober dr martens has a moc toe shoe. Do that next?
They look really nice. Im positivity surprised
I would love to see anistones get cut, bought high ones, love them a lot
How are you liking them? How do they fit?
yo, do a wear test/review with the CF.stead wax commander . they do look good and I'm not just saying that because you said it. they genuinely stand out amongst Doc's where each design is already trying to stand out. Those bikers are sweet. Might have to be an Xmas pressie to myself...
Rose anvil docs would be rad, get dm to make a jump boot somehow fr
I’ve seen the made in England with horween leather, did not know about these cf stead ones! I didn’t want to buy docs unless it was one of those leathers…
I love that even on sponsored vids…. You’re not scared of telling the truth, even if it’s pointing put flaws. Doc Martens you listening? Make a $350ish version of boots…. Should do a pair of william lennon b5s or the ww2 ammo boot.
Best boots made in the UK
I would love to see both cut!
I’d like to see what you think of these Dr Martens - 1460 DEADSTOCK LEATHER LACE UP BOOTS
(Shit kicker idea) A taller stockman from JG on the STC last with only small elastic panels at the top of the boot shaft and a toe cap would be sick.
If you did a "good" Dr Martin colab I would buy them. I love the look but I killed a pair in 8 months. I would pay double to have a pair worth resoling not just trash canning.
