Oh my goodness, this is my 5th day doing this job and I can’t tell you how unorganized it is. I really respect UPS and obviously what they do is incredibly difficult worldwide but the lack of communication and organization at the local level can really get to you sometimes haha. You definitely need to be flexible and have thick skin for sure.

I’m in Texas and I’ve had scheduling issues where I was told I’d be working then show up and I didn’t have a route, told to go here, then immediately told to go somewhere else and other issues. But once you actually get the packages from whatever location and learn how to organize them in your vehicle, the actual job itself is nice and easy and I don’t mind it. But wow, the other stuff outside of your control is totally chaotic haha.
I’m so glad to see I’m not the only one feeling this way lol. The lack of communication and training is WILD
@@chelseaw9999 Wild. That’s a good to describe it. It’s definitely a bit of a zoo. I did notice at my distribution center they are making efforts to communicate more efficiently like a group text to all the SSD’s. (Seasonal Support Drivers)

Great video awesome job. are they going to keep you on board with UPS after the season plus do they pay for wear and tear on the car like tires brakes job oil? do they provide a gift card for shoes like Amazon ?do they pay you hourly or by package? can you do a updated video?
Glad you liked the video. To answer your questions. They pay you mileage at 65.5 cents/per mile. No added compensation for wear and tear. No gift cards for shoes. They provide stocking hats, gloves and slip on traction cleats for ice and snow. The pay is hourly and they pay you weekly. It’s a good gig.

Glad you found it helpful! Here in New Hampshire it’s all about staying warm. No particular dress code in general. Regarding shoes…they recommend a work boot. I’ve been wearing Timberlands and then on rainy day I wore my winter boots. I’ve seen people wear sneakers too. They will go over appropriate footwear at orientation.
I feel like you guys are lucky with getting orientation we had a 5 minute one n it was to sign on to teamsters n then gave us a 30 minute video to watch 45 minutes to us having to be at the hub
@@leannalopez5527 I guess we are pretty lucky then. Our orientation was super helpful. I really liked how a trainer took us out on delivering five packages.
I wish we got a little more training then what we did it’s made the job a little hard im hoping in a week ill be better at It

Yes, I was being paid even when I was waiting. I’m on my third week and I’m loving it! Freedom, fresh air, exercise and getting paid a decent wage plus mileage.
Great video! Thanks so much for the information! I'm starting as a Seasonal Support Driver in the next day or two I believe. I haven't done my orientation yet but curious, if it's best to have a larger vehicle? I drive a Chevy Volt! Lots of trunk room, and can put down the back seats if more room is needed.
You should be fine. You might take one load of packages, deliver them and then go back to the distribution center and then pick up another load. That’s how some people do it with smaller vehicles. Best of luck with your new venture! If you have a good attitude, can be flexible at times you’ll be great!

I usually pack a small lunch. U burn alott of carbs ... Drink plenty of water stay hydrated
Yes I’m finding I’m not eating enough some days. I’m burning too many calories. I’m averaging walking anywhere between 3-4 miles per day.
When your shift is over do you have to go to the warehouse? Or can you just go straight home?
It all depends. Some days you can go home after you are done. Other days you need to go back and help other drivers out.
do they usually have afternoon in to evening shifts like 2pm into the evening?
Not at my distribution center. We start early most days 8:30am and work until 5ish sometimes 6pm.
It’s a great job I just started this week, I love it. You just have to organize your packages on the street and it’s pretty simple. I was going to work for Amazon for seasonal driving and I’m so glad I didn’t. Where I’m at it’s pretty chill you put as much in your car as possible and then you drive in your car listening to music for a while and then you go home.
I totally agree! I drive a Toyota Tacoma truck, and I can fit a substantial amount of packages. I’m on my third full week and if I could, I would maybe do this year round. Right now I’m usually tethered to a UPS driver. I’ll meet them in parking lots and I help offload their stash of packages. I keep meeting up with them usually 3 to 4 times throughout the day. It’s been a great gig.
How many packages do you typically deliver? Also, how many stops?
My first day I had 29 stops. I don’t remember how many packages. My second day I did two separate routes of 30 stops each. So 60 stops total. Yesterday I did 80 stops divided into two routes. I have a Toyota Tacoma truck with a covered bed so I can take a lot of packages.
I DO NOT SAY UPS AT ALL WHEN I DROP OFF A PACKAGE I SCAN SNAP AND ITS ON TO THE NEXT ONE 😂😂😂

How does the mileage reimbursement works and the health insurance.
Thanks for watching. To answer your questions… I’m driving on average anywhere between 45 and 60 miles a day. Mileage reimbursement is the standard rate 65.5 cents/mile. No health insurance.

Did they pay you when they were sending you back and forth in the beginning? How do you do timesheet?
Yes I was paid. I was paid for orientation too. You keep track of your hours on your hand held device that they give you every day you work. The device keeps track of your mileage too. It’s all computerized.
I seen my first pay stub for 4.7 hours and my mileage is 127$ !

I’m driving in rural New Hampshire and I can drive anywhere between 25 to 100 miles per day.
I love this seasonal job, I start Friday this my 3rd year doing it. Great hours & Amazing pay!

Oh nice! Where are you located? I worked from 9:30-5pm today. Walked a total 3.5 miles. I did two full routes. From what I’m told it’s only going to get busier. I wish I could start a little earlier too.

I actually go to a “ pod “ that’s setup for us because I’m doing it out of my car so I can’t really pack it out crazy so I gotta go back n fourth but everything is close to it so not a big deal. Usually when I get back to it I chill for a little while and get on it again.
@@NateDawg3211 That’s great you at least have some decent weather. I wish it was a little warmer here. It was freezing this morning! So much I wore long underwear under my clothes haha! Yeah, my first day was unconventionally chaotic. I think they try to see what you’re made out of on the first day. Then they know who they can rely on and who they can send out on longer routes. I have a nice size truck so that’s a win for me. Really can’t beat this job. Good pay and it’s relatively easy minus the physical aspect.

What are the hours? My orientation is tomorrow in Buffalo NY. Hoping it’s earlier in the day compared to later in the day. I’m working out of a Kia forte too.
It all depends what your distribution center will set up.
I know in New Hampshire it takes a few hours in the morning for the UPS trucks to get loaded up and then I meet a UPS driver anywhere between 8 AM and 10 AM to start my day. That’s the average starting time if you’re tethered to a driver. If you’re working directly out of the distribution center and getting your packages there, you can start earlier, maybe between the hours of 8 and 9 AM.

thanks for the detailed review. I am also hired as a seasonal support driver. I got my orientation on last Friday, but I still haven't gotten a phone call or text message to start working. I attended orientation, but haven't been trained or anything. They just gave me some papers to sign, and told us somebody will contact us soon, let us just go on the orientation day. I thought this is 10-5 everyday job till season ends, but it seems like not.... very confused here. How did you get your training? Should I call them say I did not even get training yet?
Like I mentioned in the video, I had orientation for 5 to 6 hours on a Friday. We filled out all the paperwork, and then we went out with the trainer in our own vehicles, and delivered five packages. They showed us what to do and what not to do when delivering packages. And then Monday I started on my own. I am now on my third day and I’m putting in on average 7-8 hours a day. I’m also picking up extra routes to work as many hours as I can. Some people opt to quit for the day after their first route, and that usually takes 3 to 4 hours. I’m in New Hampshire. This is how my distribution center is doing it. I would certainly reach out to the person that did your orientation and give them a call or text them and see what’s up. I’m finding you really had to advocate for yourself in this position.

Are you sure you were hired as a seasonal support driver? It sounds more like you were hired for a driver helper position which is different. There's no training for driver helper they just call you to meet up with the driver when they need you.

I'm so over UPS now! This is the second job I've received offers get to orientation and everything goes left. First, was back in October for Loader position. I went to orientation to be told along with another person that we were suppose to receive an email that orientation was canceled, said they hired to earlier and they would call us back when ready for us. Here it is December never heard back and I can't apply for the same postion when it becomes available another location bc it shows I applied already. Few days ago did application for Seasonal Support Driver completed all info including i-9 and was ready for Orientation on Wednesday, December 6th. Just so happen I was up this morning getting ready to go sub, but decided not to bc I've been sick. Well, soon as i made decision to not go I received a text message from UPS 5:57 AM to setup orientation. I click on the link immediately to get response that no availability someone had already take the orientation spot and click link for recruiter to contact with open availability. Now, I check again this evening and it says the job is no longer available. So over it. Meantime, I'm waiting to start at Post Office, I just did my finger prints 2 weeks ago.
That's a bummer. I've had only a good experience thus far with my distribution center. I hope you land a job with the post office.

Wowzers. You are quite a trooper. I just subscribed to your channel because I'm learning a lot about refinishing furniture. Lo & behold I see this tangent video lol. Yes, UPS package delivery is no picnic. My husband retired from UPS after nearly 40 years as a driver. He LOVED his job but it took a toll on his body. Also, he is am extrovert, which is one among many reasons he thrived with UPS. You had already earned my trust due to your tried & true methods that give beginner furniture refinishers success. But now you've earned my respect by your willingness to work such a physically demanding job👊🏽You're a true model of Girl power💪🏼

No idea. Depends on your particular distribution center.
I have my orientation tomorrow and I’m nervous about what the part-time hours will really be. If I’m done by 2 PM great but if not, would I be able to run to pick my daughter up from school in between my route since I’m in my own vehicle? I have absolutely no childcare assistance for the time she gets out of school and it has me concerned about starting!
I think that all depends on your distribution center. Right now where I'm at we are starting anywhere between 9-10am. One night I worked until 7pm (but I took on a second route). Most days on average I'm done between 2pm-4:30pm. It all depends on the day and how many packages come in. I would ask during orientation what to expect for hours. Maybe they can make sure you are done by 2pm. My center is super accommodating. Best of luck tomorrow! Let me know how it goes for you.

It all depends on your certain distribution center. I met a Driver yesterday who’s been working for UPS for three years. The first year he was a pre-loader. He helped load the trucks and the last two years he’s actually been driving a UPS truck. I was told if you consistently show up and you’re a hustler and you got a good attitude doors will open for you.
Do think it's worth doing it you drive a mid-size sedan? I'm wondering how many packages I can fit in the trunk and back seat.
Yes. I see people drive smaller cars and are doing it. They sometimes come back and do multiple trips.

How do you organize the packages in your car? And how do you know which package belongs to which house?
It’s all in the device you carry with you. You organize your car anyway that makes the most sense to you.
Great video, I wanted to ask as the position suggests it’s a seasonal job, how seasonal or how many months will they keep you?
I was told this position goes until January 15th.
I was set up to do virtual orientation 11-16-23 and that didn't happen. I have been in contact with someone since then in which I now believe is not even in America...lol
The communication is strange. I was told first day to work would be today! Yesterday, I get a text and they asked if I am available to work Saturday and I say duh yeah that is what I was told earlier this week.
By the afternoon I ask, hey I need to get more information as to who will I meet and if anyone will be with me on my first day and they ask please elaborate? Say what??? Like will I have someone with me my first day?! They said no!
Also, I don't have access to use the phone app and this person keeps telling me that will be resolved. So I had to complete my training videos without logging in like it specifies!
So far, I don't believe my firsr day will be today. As of now this is a joke. I better here something very soon, because this is ridiculous. I am signed up with the hub in Livonia Michigan. I really believe that this is not how UPS conduct their business, but have outsourced the main contact for theseasonal support staff.
Yikes! Your onboarding sounds like a nightmare. My initial communication was via text through a trainer. He has the same area code as me and was clear with where to meet, what time and what to expect. Last Friday my orientation was in person at the distribution center and the first few hours were paperwork and going into safety protocols. Afterwards we went out to deliver 5 packages in our own vehicle with the trainer. Then on Monday I had my first solo route and everything has been going well since then. Also, I have a hand held MDA (that’s what they call them) basically an extra cell phone that I scan all the packages with. I don’t do anything through an app.

Where do you pick up the packages at Walmart that's what I'm wondering right now I hope I could start December 1st I can't wait I just hope my cash app card is a payment so I can get my money I don't have a bank card no more I hope my cash app card will work for my money and also like Uber eats we started picking up packages from Walmart where will we work at here is there a UPS factory or do we just work at Walmart and pick up seasonal packages
You have to apply through UPS directly.
@@madelinejeanantiquesrestor9074 I did I'm just to be the seasonal driver that's all I finally got the link they asked me when I could start they had me put in my driver's license and my registration take pictures on my car everything do a background check everything what do you mean you go directly they sent me a link right back to them finally and it opened up everything I signed up put my car pictures in everything my license all my information it says I'm just waiting now
@@madelinejeanantiquesrestor9074 not me I went to the seasonal driver app it opened up everything at first it didn't it wouldn't show a date and this morning finally it said December 1st it had two different times one at 9:00 a.m. and one at 11:00 a.m. to start cuz it keeps sending me the link but I didn't respond to it but finally before December 1st it opened up this morning and let me put on my documents in my driver's license my background check my name my car registration pictures of my car everything no I need UPS truck truck drivers don't I meet up with them just for a seasonal driver know I don't have to go down there many people get hired through the app UPS send you just for the seasonal driving cuz it wouldn't make me put my driver's license in make me put a background check and maybe put my registration in proof of insurance everything now it says I'm just waiting to be approved I even had to watch a seasonal training video I think I'm just waiting on the background check now and everything in my documents that's it I applied to the internet
Do you get to pick when you work? Or do they give you a schedule you have to follow per week?
You can pick which days you work. You can work every day if you want or you can work a few days a week.
My orientation is tomorrow!

This is not a 1099 position. You are classified as an employee.
Are you apart of the Union? Do you have dues? And Initiation fee? California's is $600 for Loader.
Yes. This information was dropped on us in orientation. That did rub me the wrong way. This should be disclosed in the initial job description. It was not. Here in NH it’s $350, even if you are seasonal and part time. Filling out all the paperwork before the orientation, then running a background check/DMV background, uploading all these documents to prove who I am, finally getting a position and THEN they drop the “oh and it’s $350 for union dues” after the orientation started really stunk. They said if we do come on board and take a full-time position that we don’t have to pay it again OR if we come back again and be a seasonal support driver next year we don’t have to pay the union fee again.
@@madelinejeanantiquesrestor9074That's just the initiation fee. They alsot take a percentage out of each paycheck. That was the deal breaker for me. They should not do that do seasonal drivers. Their contract should classify seasonal drivers as independent contractors so they do not get hit with these fees. It drops your pay by a good $2 or more per hour. You're already making less than most delivery drivers. I couldn't believe the lies they told me.

I am surprised that they make the seasonal workers pay an initiation fee and weekly dues?? Of course I understand if you are a permanent worker.

@@sanchez758 Funny as I was scheduled for a 4 hour orientation for Tues but my Coordinator called me last night and said there is no formal orientation - just going over things and I would start. He also said he might have me drop off my spouse with a local driver and I would get the scanner and vest and get my packages from the truck. Apparently, after we completed the I9 verification, we both got texts the next day to see if we could start. We couldn't but starting on Mon.

I was supposed to have orientation this morning at the Rock Falls, Il location. After getting there, a lady came out and had us sign a piece of paper and write our phone numbers down saying it was too chaotic today and they would try again tomorrow. No return call yet. This was after receiving an email yesterday saying my starting wage was going to be $24.84 instead of $23.
Nice on the wage part. Here in NH the hourly rate is $23/hr plus mileage. Get ready to be flexible and for it to be chaotic just keep that in mind.

I tracked down some other people that got hired and it's the same story with them. UPS sets up an orientation date and the hub cancel it when you get there.
@@Rocket405.8 Last week I worked 27.5 hours, not including Saturday. I run my own small business refinishing furniture, so I’m doing that as well and I am also a mom. My goal was to work anywhere between 25 to 30 some hours a week. It’s all that I can give or I’m going to burn out. How about you?

My lead distribution job of 14 years at Rayovac moved to Indiana so I was thinking/hoping that UPS would be a really good fit for me. I'll give them another week and then look elsewhere. I live by the Mississippi River, so I'll enjoy my river rat/fishoholic lifestyle for a little bit.

At least they text you the day before. Over here they text you your route and start time the morning of.
Here they text you the night before to see if you can work the next day. Then that morning, you will get an additional text that tells you your route and start time.

@@AppDriverMenifee it’s not absurd. Like I stated in my previous comment, I am working as a seasonal driver in rural New Hampshire. Announcing ourselves ensures that the homeowner (if they are home) is aware of our presence coming up the driveway and if there’s any dogs running about making our presence known. We were train specifically to do this. I don’t care how absurd you think it is.
Is it possible to do this in the evening after a regular job?
No. This is during mostly normal business day hours.
So I just got hired on for this but I still have not talked to anyone because everything has been through a computer so far also got hired on to drive for Amazon. I don’t know what one to tell I won’t be taking. Is this job just a temp job for the holidays or is it an actual job that lasts forever? And also my acceptance thing I signed said part time but the hours say 10 hours a day 5-6 days a week. I’m so confused about everything.
Do you really have to say “ups” every stop? I’ve never heard an ups driver do that lol
@@weezyFatmosphere Yup! That’s how I was trained. Also know that I’m in New Hampshire. There’s a lot of rural spots so you could startle someone walking up their driveway not announcing yourself.
I was specifically hired for UPS seasonal driver. We were told the position ends around January 15. The seasonal driver is a temporary position. I can work part time hours, or I can work as much as I want and get overtime hours.

What's the max hours they let you work?
My center lets me work as many as I want. Yesterday I put in 11 hours. Until the job gets done.

If I can get paid time and half let's go! I'm a hustler out there. Every UPS driver I've been tethered to loves my work ethic. I'm averaging 80-100 stops a day.
@@madelinejeanantiquesrestor9074 These past 6 days I'm averaging 148 packages a day. Every day they keep texting me if I want to help someone else. I'm 70, and not as spry as I used to be.
