Kajillionaire =)

our friend is so painfully sad and funny at the same time
Clockwork orange and pulp fiction
“who’s the hell is gonna watch an hour long what i watched this month video?”
Me , me karsten

Wait. Did Karsten just admit to being Santa? Why is no one talking about this?
...yeah, did I just hear that? What the hell?
I think he means he got a car for Christmas or something. karst my man!

DON'T TEMPT US KARSTEN YOU BOY
As a mexican subscriber, i'm really happy to hear that you enjoyed 'I´m no longer here', my favorite Mexican movie of 2020 ♥

"Tenet looks and sounds really good."
Tenet's dialogue: _muffled and drowned out_
@@jameskanuch I think they fixed it, I could hear the dialog fine as well
I heard it decently fine in my cinema, but then again that goes to show it could've been better mixed *overall*. Plus, I had subtitles.
@@SingularityEngine it was apparently mixed for the real high end cinemas, so my Shit Kicker Odeon had no hope. After a half hour of struggling to hear anything, I gave up. Really fkn annoying.
The fact that I was just thinking about what to watch tonight 😳
Sound of metal was heartbreaking. Just heartbreaking.
Spoilers:
The scene where he got kicked out and the ending broke me
@Taylor Whitman ohh dude...seriously. that scene was fucking crazy.
And the one where she leaves him in the parking lot. Riz Ahmed 🙏.
Do you know where it is streaming
@@joaquinmijares5462 right now it’s available on Amazon Prime! Definitely a great watch!
I loved it SO MUCH GOD IT WAS SO GOOD
coraline might just be the single scariest movie I ever watched.
Also stop-motion always deserves some credit
Porco Rosso is so underrated. Sure, Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away might be more impactful films as a whole, but there's something about this asian twist on 30's Mediterranean Europe that just brings tears to my eyes just for its vibrant style.
Couldn't agree more
Did you watch the second Euphoria special episode about Jules yet? Would love to hear your thoughts about it! :)
It was my personal favourite episode of Euphoria so far!
I AGREE! i tried to rewatch euphoria after these 2 special episodes came out and i realized that aside from the rules moments and the cinematography i dont even like it that much ... these 2 special episodes that actually have substance and dont try to go overboard with the shock value are way better in my opinion
the scene toward the end of Porco Rosso, with all the planes flying up through the clouds and off into the distance, it always makes me cry. the whole film is great
I'm No Longer Here was my favorite of 2020 ❤️an absolute gem.
It's weird casually watching Karsten's video, then at 10:19 seeing your grandmother front in center of a cheer squad.
“And who would want to watch an hour long What I Watched This Month” Me!!!!! I would!!!!!! !!!!
NO WAY he watched fallen angels! My favourite film. I watched it as part of my film studies course and fell in LOVE!!!
Never watched it. Do u recommend it? How is it?
@@Unknown-uh3kp i highly recommend it, it’s very different and experimental but it’s a great time and I’d also advise to watch Wong Kar Wai’s other films
@@joshholmes358 on my list. In the mood for love and fallen angels. Thanks mate
Just a random *”Robots” (2005)* comment passing by. Because, very recently, there’s TONNES of deleted scenes that surfaced, and I’m trying to spread awareness to #ReleaseTheChrisWedgeCut.

Dude Bernie is soo underrated. It needs more recognition.
It’s on Peacock btw
watched my first Ghibli this month! Spirited Away
didnt understand what it was about at all, but it was gorgeous
A lot of the spirits and lore are very Japanese. With Spirited Away, and many of Miyazaki's films, the most important part is what Karsten described as the "child-like wonder," or emotional depth, of the movie.
I’m the same with Ghibli movies! I love them but I can’t always understand the plot haha. If you want one that has a semi understandable plot I recommend Kiki’s Delivery Service :)
Thank God you watched Fallen Angels, that film is such a masterpiece, been wanting to see you talk about it for months now! Defo my favorite Wong Kar-Wai film
I wasn't expecting to see Bernie there at the end! It's definitely underrated, and I enjoy it so much as a born and raised Texan. Each character feels real, like I could possibly be related to them. Small Texas towns are rife with drama like that.
Karsten, dude - You remind me why I love watching movies. I really enjoy your stuff (and I'd def watch an hour long one of these FYI). Sometimes movie-watching can feel like a chore because I desperately want to give each one my full, undivided attention (which I'm finding increasingly difficult in lock-down), but your vids bring back the spark for me. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. Keep it up. Many thanks.
I was legit rewatching you're old videos this morning while sippin coffee, much love from Canada.
I'm so glad you liked Another Round! It's definitely one of the most underrated movies last year, and is brilliant!!
What I watched in January: RUclips lessons and tutorials to complete my assignments.
Taste of Cherry and Fallen Angels are two of my favorites EVER & you watched them both this month and loved them. Thank you.
I love your videos thank you for creating and thank you for being here!
These vids specifically have been awesome!
Thrilled you mentioned Lucas Hedges, who I think is always remarkable. I always find his performances moving. And your mention that the acting in Ma Rainey's is on another level. I attribute that to it being another of August Wilson stage plays. Did you see Viola Davis' performance in Fences? Her acting boogles my mind.
I love your videos Karsten. really helped today
I look forward to these every month!!!!
You've inspired me to watch and appreciate more cinematography. Thanks man.
Fallen Angles is peak cinema glad you liked it.
So we're just gonna,, ignore Karsten insinuating he's Santa Claus ok
those doc recs are giving me life
Great work Karsten! I love watching your videos! You are an inspiration for me to start my own movie review channel!
Generally love your takes on films! Watched Kajillionaire and don't quite get what you love about it. Thanks as always for bringing up films that often get overlooked.
I have been desperate for this thank you :)))
I'm excited to hear Karsten's thoughts on Jules's episode of Euphoria. I personally loved it. I think it added much needed layers to Jules's character and her decisions while also included that fantastic Euphoria style that I think Rue's episode was lacking.
One show I feel like you'd really like is March Comes In Like a Lion. It's from the same director as Madoka Magica but is a very different show. Probably the most heartwarming thing I've ever seen but it also tackles the characters' issues with a lot of nuance. (It's on Netflix)
Video on Kajillionaire maybe? 👀
I really liked that film and was lucky to see it in theaters
i watched sound of metal earlier this month and it's already one of my favourite first watches of the year
these videos make my serotonin increase
"Who the hell is gonna watch an hour long what I watched this month video"

Looking forward to watching some of these.
He watched taste of cherry!!! As an iranian i couldn't have felt more happier man. Thank you karsten❤
Just watched Swiss Army Man for the first time and it was AMAZING. Possibly the best score I’ve ever heard for a movie.
For a moment I thought you forgot December and also January is also bout to end. And yet you did not forget. Nice recommendations. from Phils 🇵🇭
As a peruvian subscriber, I would love seeing you talking about more latinoamerican films. Idk if it's available in netflix USA but I'll recommend you to watch "Retablo" and "Song without a name". Also, again idk if it's available in prime video USA, but hope you can watch "Wiñaypacha"

I could not recommend more checking “no one belongs here more then you” a collection of short story’s by Miranda July. Easily one of my favorite books and her style of making art really shines through.
we watched so many of the same movies. fantastic mr fox? i went back and saw it and remembered i loved it for the soundtrack. and euphoria and soul and everything
I saw like 3 different comments of people saying they watched Barry Lyndon and they all gave it a less than 3/5 score so I’m just here to throw my flag up for that movie being a masterpiece.
100% agree, one of kubricks best, i mean they are almost all 10/10
i was waiting for this !!!
yo you gotta watch the rest of the small axes series if you liked mangroves,! ep.4 is my favorite. my grandparents are Jamaican immigrants who lived through this era in England, so i asked them about the themes in the episode and the show is very accurate👌
This month I watched memento, the royal Tenenbaums (as well as a lot of other Wes Anderson), and eternal sunshine and now those are my top three favorite movies :)

The royal tenenbaums is a masterpiece 👌🏻 👌🏻 👌🏻 👌🏻
Chungking Express is a masterpiece
A very solid 10 though!
Its Oscar month (kinda) so I got back into watching movies and tried to watch the potential nominees, which is most of the ones u watched too, Karsten!
- Nomadland: Really interesting dive into the world of nomads, so beautiful and insightful.
- Kajillionnaire: So bizarre and unique, loved it! Evan Rachel Wood is unrecognizable and fantastic.
- Soul: Such wholesome storytelling and Pixar continues to be leagues ahead with its deliberately stylistic animation. Has Coco vibes.
- Feels Good Man: I watched this too, does a great job in explaining the whole subculture of Pepe/memes, and following the poor creator's experience of this unintended monster he created.
- Minari: So great, the kid is fantastic and his chemistry with the Grandma is priceless! Promising Korean nominee? (Will there be one every year as a norm?)
- Another Round: So fun and interesting and takes a different angle on an alcohol themed movie. Epic dance!
- Promising Young Woman: Did not expect the direction this took, Carey Mulligan is scary good (literally)!
- On The Rocks: Was fun but not really my cup of tea. Bill Murray is great but just has Lost in Translation vibes which is understandable as its the same director.
- The Sound of Metal: So great, did not expect the direction of this. Learned so much about deafness. Sound design Oscar worthy and should win.
- The Trial of the Chicago 7: I agree with Karsten here, nothing special or memorable. As a Brit, not as familiar with US historic events so maybe that would help it be more gripping to those who remember?
- Palm Springs: Groundhog Day but not Groundhog Day. Loved this so much, the two main characters are so good and have great chemistry. No fail 100% recommended great pick for a date night!
- One Night in Miami: In a similar way to The Trail of Chicago 7, harder to relate to with US historic people/events. Adapted from play, looots of dialogue and trying to be thought provoking.
- The Florida Project: Documentary-esk, insight into motel living life of poverty. The little girl Moonee is fantastic.
Omg why did I write so much?
Porco rosso is one if not the best miyazaki movie, a magnificent love letter to flight, animation, freedom, Fellini and italy in general with one of the best endings ever
This is so random but I really want to hear his (or really anyone’s) thoughts on Sleeping Beauty. I’ve been thinking about that movie a lot for some reason & I feel like it’s so underrated as far as Disney princesses go. The actual character Aurora is definitely a less developed character then other princesses but the movie as a whole is so good. The animation is so beautiful at times, the sound design is really satisfying to listen to, and there is a fucking dragon. I mean, come on. I just think everything about this movie is so beautiful. But maybe that’s just because I’ve loved it since I can remember!
Immediately dropped my math homework to watch this
I love Bernie. It’s extremely underrated.
I watched:
Fight club 10/10
Moonrise kingdom 9/10
War games 8/10
Murder on the orient express(2017) 6/10
The craft 10/10
Pride and prejudice 10/10
porco rosso is probably Miyazaki's most underrated and overlooked film. I didnt even knew its a Ghibli's film when i set down and watched it few years ago! one of my favorite for sure.

How did you give an absolute classic like The Bee movie a 1? Where’s your heart? I couldn’t imagine trying to review film so hard you dislike an animated kids movie that has some good family humor and moments lmao
2.5 for Castaway surprises me, I always felt that it was a very strong movie regardless of personal story interpretation

Solid list!
You should watch “One night in Miami” one of my recent favorites.
Makes me so happy to see Taste of Cherry get some love - one of my favorites, but rarely discussed.
Also Bernie is completely awesome. I love the subgenre of "comedy/drama character studies of gay con artists" - such as Bernie, I Love You Philip Morris, and most recently Bad Education.

Also very interested in seeing Fallen Angel's. It's on my list.
fallen angels is so goated, i’m very happy u liked it
Cool video man I haven’t even watched it
Hey Karsten, I was going through your letterboxd to see if you'd seen Park Chanwook's The Handmaiden (I can't seem to remember you mentioning it in a video). If you haven't seen it, I can really recommend it! Its a beautiful and turbulent film that completely reinvents everything I thought I knew about storytelling. If you have seen it, I'd love to see your review. :)
If you don’t think people will want to watch an hour long video of yours, I think you’re mistaken! You should do a homepage poll and find out what length of video people are most interested in.
For me personally, I like to put your videos on while I do work or while I’m cooking or something. It’s nice to have a long video that I can just stick on and not have to worry about what I should watch next for a while, and just get engrossed in that one video.
I’m not saying you should do longer vids because you may not want to do that. But if it IS something you want to do, I’m sure your subscribers will eat it up.
I loved this video keep on
