Hands down, the most articulate, organized and informative S90 video review I have seen, either on RUclips or any where else for that matter. Love the facts and cost comparisons. As a long-time Mercedes owner, who bought a S90 on a snap decision after cross-shopping the E300, BMW 535 and Audi A6 - I feel good about my choice.
i usually never post opinions but honestly u are not wasting any time and giving full details of the products, really wish there would be more youtubers like you Alex. Respect !
Excellent review as usual Alex. Thank you for that. I saw the S90 in person and it is gorgeous. Also the tail lights looked much better in person than in pictures/video. Also they kind of grew on me.
The thing that nobody knows or shows about Volvos is that it has a sport mode that changes throttle/turbo responsiveness & steering feedback. With competitors such as BMW & Infiniti, they're always aggressive which also has an effect on gas mileage. All you have to do is shift to D then move the shifter knob to the left which engages Sport Mode & you'll see an 'S' on your dash. I personally like the fact you have the option to drive regular without jumping from a stop at a red light. & when sport mode isn't fast enough you could always shift yourself in manual mode. Just an FYI if you test drive one.
That wood grain looks fantastic! I just purchased a 2006 Volvo s60, I'm super excited, and maybe in ten years I get myself one of these. haha I also love vehicle manufacturers who don't just needlessly throw every possible electronic or whatever modern feature in the market, but the important ones, while focusing on what matters most!
A very good review Alex. You certainly know your stuff and that shines through in the way you deliver the review succinctly and with precise information. Well worth subscribing to.
A real classically elegant car. Volvos have a safety proven, solid tank-like build as well, which makes it a great buy when compared to the competition, especially at the comparitive price.
I love Alex on Autos. I am currently driving this car S90. one thing it's not is that it's not quiet. it's pretty darn loud for the relative price tag. also the ride is very composed until you get to rough pavement when it becomes jarring. I am amazed to see the standard equipment and really nice well balanced ride.
Hi Alex. Excellent review! I like the new design of your videos, but what about the score in the acceleration test? I liked when you scored with letters instead of time. And what about the transmission. Perhaps an extra minute talking about that would be great. Thank you!
Great Review Alex. I agree with you. This interior is at the top of this class right now. The only interior IMHO that best this car presently is the 17 E300.
I agree with you about the rear design where it does give the appearance of being unfinished. Maybe an appliqué in the wide open spaces may help although I am not too keen on the extra taillight piece.
this looks to be a great car but I am with you with the rear styling. It WORKS and WORKS WELL on the V90, but not so much on the S90. If I am buying one of these, I am certainly getting the wagon.
It'd be nice to see differences between trim lines highlighted, for example the fact that Momentum versions don't get thigh extensions on the seats and other differences. Because the ratings are sometimes greatly affected by these trim changes.
Hey! Love your videos, but a tip for being more international is to go with for example MPG like u are, and with L/100km like most European countries and probably other areas use aswell, just a thought! Keep doing what you are doing, regards from David, Sweden!
Looking forward to the V90, of course it's going to have a hard time in the US since it will cost the same or more than a comparably equipped XC90. Glad to see Volvo continuing what they started with the XC90.
A similarly equipped Jaguar XF 35t Prestige is virtually the same price as this Volvo S90. Although the S90 has a more upscale looking interior, I would still buy the XF due to its better performance.
Alex you are a very thorough reviewer and do it with alot of zeal - i love to watch your reviews i have a question in reference to the size of the wheels i was told that a 19 or 20 inch rim will cause a hard rough ride if your not cruising on a highway because there is less rubber or sidewall around the rim should i go for the 18 inch rim on the s90 volvo ? and can you get a 18 inch rim on the s90 inscription ?
Hey Alex, you didn't mention much about the AWD system. Is it permanent AWD like 4matic or Xdrive or reactive system that engages through solenoid clutch or viscous coupling?
do not like the rear end. alex thanks again for the awesome detailed review. preferred the letters for braking and acceleration as it accounts for driveability and brake feel
I already loved the XC90 and I'm not even a fan of SUVs. The S90 is beautiful in many different angles. Yes it is FWD-based, but Volvo doesn't do sporty, but luxury, elegance and SAFETY. The rear end is my only questionable design. Thankfully the V90 wagon is much sexier in that regard.
Vanishing amber turn signal syndrome was first recognized in 1945. This occurs when a turn signal or lane change indicator disappears in the uterus during pregnancy as a result of a style faux pas of the rear tail lights. The amber color is absorbed by the red plastic or rear fascia.
Can you do the 2017 ford fusion platinum when you get a chance, i feel not enough people do hybrids and I'm curious to see your current take on the vehicle
What are you doing in the Hamptons? You're typically on the West Coast. Welcome to Long Island and I hope you enjoyed your stay. I work out there in my '06 Jeep with over 170k and still rolling. The new Volvo sure evolved a long way from the old 1974 145 I had long ago.
Alex, will you be reviewing the V90 if you get the chance to? Which brings me to one question, will there be a redesigned 60 series of volvos? I'd love volvo to redesign the xc60.
In the review of the XC90 you said it had red turn signals because that's what Americans "prefer", which I thought was surprising because amber lights are prettier.
For the first time ever I'd take the Swede over it's German rivals. I'm planning on buying a new car in about 1-2 years, and if the Germans don't come up with anything matching Volvo s/V90 overall, including value for money and looks. I'm going for either the V90 or V90 XC.
I wish you could change the red turn signals to amber! They could have put in a bi-LED turn signal and added the software button to change between the 2. Speaking about turn signals, the US should change their laws about turn signals and allow them to bring those amazing audi sequential turn signals and not the stupid red ones.
US spec Mustangs have had sequential turn signals for years so if Audi doesn't offer them for the US market, that's because Audi doesn't want to, not regulatory problems.
+Zachary F it's regulations I've heard people talk about it in audi forums. If it weren't true then why wouldn't audi give us the fancy sequential turn signals in the A7 and Q7?
As reliable as any other forced induction motor. Why people think the twin charged setup is unreliable is based off no info. I would say this motor is going to be more reliable than high stress turbo motors from MB, Subaru, and Mitsubishi that push over 20psi.
+Rediscover Film Agreed. It's not like Volvo is new to forced induction. They've been doing it longer and in greater quantity than almost anyone. My s60r engine was like new at 160k miles when i sold the car. That was a 300 hp 2.5 liter 5 cylinder that I towed with (up to 3000 pounds) and enjoyed quite regularly
You mentioned the existence of the CTS and XF early in the review, but didn't bring them up at all in your extended comparison. You brought up the GS200t, but didn't say anything about the GS350 or GS450h. And, the Genesis/G80 didn't get brought up at all. How does the V90 stack up to the non-German competition?
We simply don't have the time in a standard video to compare all the competition but stay tuned for the complete S90 review in the next few months where we'll address a few more of the competitors.
In the competition comparison section, why was no comparison made to the Jaguar XF? It has a more powerful engine, is faster, handles better and has a very comparable interior. Also, is priced better than the Volvo in my opinion.
I feel like the new S90 competes more with a Lexus ES or the new Buick LaCrosse. I know the S90 will end up pricing almost twice as much as those two, but during the entire review, I kept thinking about the Lexus ES.
+Elliott Manning the S90 is light years ahead of the ES in terms of refinement, luxury and handling however. I suppose it depends on how you define the competition for the ES. The ES does in some ways compete with the 5 series in some ways.
+Alex on Autos the S90's interior really is beautiful. I thought they could compete since they're both front wheel drive, and the S90's German competition can easily get into the mid $70,000 if you get every option, however the S90 tops off at $66,000.
+Alex on Autos I think the A6 in base form may compete with the ES, but once you add Quattro, the bigger, more powerful engines and features, then it competes with a 5 Series and E-Class. Its price certainly does at least.
That may be part of your answer then. You could see the T5 as a more luxurious ES competitor while the T6 AWD is a solid A6, E and 5 competitor. It actually has a better weight balance than the A6 does.
This thing is just gorgeous. Personally, I'm glad they skipped the amber turn signals (in the rear) because frankly they just look awful. Thankfully, they seem to be a rarity these days.
The design is so crisp but smooth with a dash of elegance ~ Oh Volvo how I miss ours

Again you bring one of the best reviews..... no nonsense, no bullshit- just the facts. Good job indeed. Thx. from Denmark. Bw. Hans.
As a Volvo guy: I'd buy this someday Alex.
i usually never post opinions but honestly u are not wasting any time and giving full details of the products, really wish there would be more youtubers like you Alex. Respect !

Nice review Alex! this car so luxurious, btw pls more reviews about Volvo cars.
Wonderful as always! Good to have you out here on the beast coast!
The V90 might just be my next car. Great to see Volvo succeed again! And thanks for the fantastic review, of course, Alex!
What an incredible detailed review!
Very good review! The S90 definitely punches above its weight in the segment!

Great job Alex..you never disappoint in your reviews!!
Really like the look of the car, like a well tailored suit.
Hi Alex. Excellent review! I like the new design of your videos, but what about the score in the acceleration test? I liked when you scored with letters instead of time. And what about the transmission. Perhaps an extra minute talking about that would be great. Thank you!

excelente reportaje, me encanta el auto, todo tan fino y lujo me agrada. Gracias volvo ...
Truly gorgeous, I aspire to own one in T8 form one day!
Can't wait to see the polestar versions start to hit the market!
this looks to be a great car but I am with you with the rear styling. It WORKS and WORKS WELL on the V90, but not so much on the S90. If I am buying one of these, I am certainly getting the wagon.
Alex. Thanks for your great videos. Could you do a demo of the pilot assist?
I am so excited for the Volvo V90 due at the end of the year!!
I hope to score one via the Overseas Delivery Program finally.
Wow. Very nice. Recently stumbled on your videos. You do amazing reviews. Thanks
Beautiful car and video. Thank you Alex.
I like this guy reviews! You are my favorite! Good Job Keep it up!!!
Hey Alex, great video! Love your reviews!!
Are you planning to review the new Audi A4 and Mercedes GLC??
Thanks a lot!
It'd be nice to see differences between trim lines highlighted, for example the fact that Momentum versions don't get thigh extensions on the seats and other differences. Because the ratings are sometimes greatly affected by these trim changes.
gorgeous interior

Hated the rear red turn signals!
Extremely well informed. Thanks!
Cool review! Cant wait for you to do Porsche panamera next!
A similarly equipped Jaguar XF 35t Prestige is virtually the same price as this Volvo S90. Although the S90 has a more upscale looking interior, I would still buy the XF due to its better performance.
they should of connected the taillights where the Volvo badge is
I've seen an aftermarket piece in Europe to accomplish just that.
That would be a Honda Civic LWB
great video review
great review
Alex ur the freakn best!!!!
Alex you are a very thorough reviewer and do it with alot of zeal - i love to watch your reviews
i have a question in reference to the size of the wheels i was told that a 19 or 20 inch rim will cause a hard rough ride

Hey Alex, you didn't mention much about the AWD system. Is it permanent AWD like 4matic or Xdrive or reactive system that engages through solenoid clutch or viscous coupling?
nice review
very clean & nice review. question: what's right side button. There are one big button and one small button next to volume control.
that car is tough
Don't like the back though
Back came of this concept car www.motortrend.com/news/volvo-concept-coupe-first-look/
do not like the rear end. alex thanks again for the awesome detailed review. preferred the letters for braking and acceleration as it accounts for driveability and brake feel
Mercedes e class for 2017 review coming soon Alex???
Waiting to see some night Vids. Would like the exterior/interior lighting effects.
Gru thank you! Great review love the car!
TBH i love the rear end its so unique and different to every other car on the road you from hundreds of meters that it is a volvo
you will probably survive any crash with this car
That's why Volvos were made. Best safety vehicle!
WRONG!
shut up pedro
ANY crash? really?
Tank n Volvos their are same..
S90 looks sportier, while the S80 looks more elegant. I prefer the S80. The world doesn't need another car with BMW inspired styling.
Alex can you please review some Porsche's there is overwhelming number of new models in US market. Thanks.
Vanishing amber turn signal syndrome was first recognized in 1945. This occurs when a turn signal or lane change indicator disappears in the uterus during pregnancy as a result of a style faux pas of the rear tail lights. The amber color is absorbed by the red plastic or rear fascia.
The S90 wagon looks much better than regular s90
the Wagon is called V90
s90 rules the roost just with the exception of the new Merc e class
Hardly. The new E class is awful. Last generation E class was so much better.
Alex does it have ambient lighning around cabin like the audi a4
That 10,000 less is very intriguing.
Most beautiful cars in production today (not in order):
Volvo S90
Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe
Rolls-Royce Wraith
Aston Martin Vanquish
dear Alex, thanks all and i like ur review. im consider to buy s90 or v90 or es300h. kindly advise me which one i go to.
@Robbaz is the only king of Sweden!
$66,000. Ouch. I remember when a buck was worth a buck. Now, almost a dime...
Can you do the 2017 ford fusion platinum when you get a chance, i feel not enough people do hybrids and I'm curious to see your current take on the vehicle

Volvo is the best !
Alex, will you be reviewing the V90 if you get the chance to? Which brings me to one question, will there be a redesigned 60 series of volvos? I'd love volvo to redesign the xc60.
Within 2 years all the other Volvos will be replaced.
Yes, the new 60 series (XC, S, V) will be coming in 2017/2018, and new 40 series in 2018/2019.
+Hans Olo wish the US got the V40 😔
hope*
The rear-end design language shine on V90 IMO, simply shrinking it onto a S90 makes it bit odd tho. I'd 100% go for the V90 if I had the cash
I forgot Volvo is a thing. I actually like this car!
You should look out for the V90 and XC90 they are great cars
I want review buick lacrosse 2017
In the review of the XC90 you said it had red turn signals because that's what Americans "prefer", which I thought was surprising because amber lights are prettier.
Is the V90 available in the US?
Yes
Not yet, but it will be
I love almost the entire design of this car but i can't get over the read-end with those taillights. They just dont look right.
For the first time ever I'd take the Swede over it's German rivals. I'm planning on buying a new car in about 1-2 years, and if the Germans don't come up with anything matching Volvo s/V90 overall, including value for money and looks. I'm going for either the V90 or V90 XC.

US spec Mustangs have had sequential turn signals for years so if Audi doesn't offer them for the US market, that's because Audi doesn't want to, not regulatory problems.
+Zachary F those are big turn signals. Auids are just a strip of LED that the US doesn't allow
Audi is starting to bring sequential turn signals to the United States, they're available on the A4 and R8.
+Zachary F it's regulations I've heard people talk about it in audi forums. If it weren't true then why wouldn't audi give us the fancy sequential turn signals in the A7 and Q7?
+Sam Mehta only problem is that they still are programmed to be active with the red brake lights
13:55. I didn't know that most hunters in the U.S. bagged dear with their cars.
Seriously?
how much does it cost?
Personal preference but the rear end is ONLY aspect of this car I don't like. If I can get over that, the T8 is what I'll be getting next year.
+Alex on Autos how reliable do you see this 2L turbo and super charged engine being?
As reliable as any other forced induction motor. Why people think the twin charged setup is unreliable is based off no info. I would say this motor is going to be more reliable than high stress turbo motors from MB, Subaru, and Mitsubishi that push over 20psi.

I just think the Volvo logo on the rear needs to be lowered towards the middle of the trunk, rather than up top.

Sorry, S90.
Looks like a try hard 7 series...but a big step in the right direction for Volvo. Edit - 5 series.. I didn't know how much smaller it was!
The rear end doesn't bother me but it would probably read better in darker colors.
Nice car overall. Geared for conservative non driving enthusiasts that like to shop at IKEA.
In the competition comparison section, why was no comparison made to the Jaguar XF?
It has a more powerful engine, is faster, handles better and has a very comparable interior. Also, is priced better than the Volvo in my opinion.
did the kia cadenza emulate this car...both look amazing, however
I feel like the new S90 competes more with a Lexus ES or the new Buick LaCrosse. I know the S90 will end up pricing almost twice as much as those two, but during the entire review, I kept thinking about the Lexus ES.

Instead of a direct answer I would ask another question: Is the Audi A6 a 5-Series and E-Class competitor or an ES competitor?
+Alex on Autos I think the A6 in base form may compete with the ES, but once you add Quattro, the bigger, more powerful engines and features, then it competes with a 5 Series and E-Class. Its price certainly does at least.
That may be part of your answer then. You could see the T5 as a more luxurious ES competitor while the T6 AWD is a solid A6, E and 5 competitor. It actually has a better weight balance than the A6 does.
I love Volvo's new design language but those taillights are hideous
I like the rear end but I also don't ... Can't decide
You'll like it in end. It grew on me over last few months. Now I love it. That said, as awesome as the S90 is, I'd get a V90 or XC90.
You literally cannot see the rear end from inside the S90. It is a great place to sit too. I got a great deal on a 2017 S90 T6 Inscription.
This thing is just gorgeous. Personally, I'm glad they skipped the amber turn signals (in the rear) because frankly they just look awful. Thankfully, they seem to be a rarity these days.
till this day it is said that the music is still loading...
I'm not a huge fan of the taillights but it's OK.
I am surprised there is no automatic tilt/telescopic steering wheel and I agree the rear end styling looks unfinished.
