WARNING; The salesman (cars) may ask very seemingly innocently right off the bat “how much do you want to spend?” Though it seems innocent enough, it is a trick. He now knows how much you’re willing to spend and can hold the line at that amount or more because you’ve already said you’re willing to pay that amount. Instead answer “as little as possible.” It seems obvious now that I have pointed this out. Not so obvious when you walk in and he asks you this off-the-cuff.
I would say "money is not the problem". I want value for money. Show me what you got. Give me your best deal. I will take note of that and come back after my survey to buy from you. That will put the sales person under pressure.
Another tip I have found works well is to use the word "Help" towards the end of negotiation - Help me out here/ You would be really helping me here make my dream to own this car come true etc. People just love knowing that they have helped someone.
It also can be counter tip. "Help" might be a sign you are desperate to buy that product especially in the case of a negotiation which gives the seller more indication it is worth more to you than other people would buy it for and would be unwilling to reduce the price for you.
Your get out of jail card should be "I got to go to another dealership to see if they will agree on my price" . Works most of the time unless your really trying to lowball them.
I'm great at haggling. I use most of these tricks. I also point out stuff I don't like about the item even when I do like them and always offer to pay in cash! If you feel safe show the seller Cash and most of the time they are willing to take it.
- You need a value that makes the seller and you happy - Find a fair price and substract 10-30% - Build rapport - Nu. 1 thing to do is; ask their name and use it - !!! - Talk about anything just talk and make them like you-not to short to not break the ice but not to long to don't know why you're here - Find things you have a common interest in - Have some good time and form a friendship - Wait - Persistence is key - Don't even say the price in the first 5 minutes - Let him teach you (doesn't apply for every salesmen: prepare for the worst scenarios and learn as much as you can about the product to avoid scams) - Play dumb - Stand your ground - Get to know the person, why they sell it-their motive - If they need e.g. 50$ (alternate factor)-that's the lowest price - If they steamroll the product, they may hide something - Quick deals can lead to buyers remorse - Numbers - Never give your price floor (highest or lowest you're willing to pay) - Try to say a price for the first time that's almost annoying but not offensive - Try 80% off-may seem like a scam and they'll likely say no; but if you say a higher you will be wondering what was the lowest price - Low enough to say no but not offensive - Silence is important! - After you asked for a price, make sure not to say anything else until they talk - Don't be scared by silence in negotiating - They'll probably think for a couple of seconds-'ll be uncomfortable but resist the urge - Body language - Smile - Toes pointed towards them - Remove object between you - Shake hands after you said hello and after the deal is done - Get out of jail card - Have a permanent, immediate reason to leave - Like kids, wife, doc etc. - Some may will ask for the lowest price you are willing to pay - Say "As little as possible"
Well for stores where you can and or supposed to haggle they tend to jack up the price so much to catch unsuspecting people who can't haggle for shit... so yeah. In that case, what he suggests is fine
As there's no haggling at all where I'm from, I really suck at haggling when I go to markets abroad. My mum is an expert at it though, she was slashing prices all over China Town, Italy and all our trips to Asia.
1) For big items, go at the end of a quarter when the salesman is more interested in moving units rather than price. 2) Allow a few days before the quarter’s so you can WALK away. The ability to walk is the most powerful position to be in. Go elsewhere to buy. Always act like you are about to walk. 3) Before hand, RESEARCH. Consumer Reports, Google, ask competitors about why their product is better- one helluva eye opener! Gives Q’s to push back on the salesman. 4) when you walk in announce that you are there to BUY that day. They will happily take seriously. 5) NEVER NEVER NEVER fall for the question: “about how did you want to spend per month?? Say “as LITTLE as possible.” If you give an actual number, you are FUCKED. They will get it out of you. They do it for a living. 6) Practice on saleman over and over before you buy. It gets fun. 7) Enjoy
From my experience, I find that the moment you show the customer that you are really a serious shopper they are more likely to be under your influence when you haggle.
2:07 That gives me an idea to try asking for peoples' names BEFORE I give them my own. I never thought about it this way and want to try it. Thank you, my 3rd favorite RUclips channel of all-time! :)
My dad once got this cute purse for me when I was younger, the original price for it was $65 and he reduced it to $25 it did take a long time though, but it was only done to entertain/teach me, usually we don't have trouble paying
Nice video. Minor point - you say "bartering" a few times. You mean bargaining. Bartering is when you exchange one item for another, without using money.
My buddy: let go check out this truck! He wants 2k but idk. It's kinda rusty. I'm going to be like Richard Rawlings and offer $1,300... get there look at truck... yeah I'm going to haggle.... So.. price is 2k. My buddy: Okay! Deal! Lolol face palm
In human relationship this is true. In the city: worked hard to get anything, change location and results. the amount of work you have to put in for what you get/ need
So in all... 1) research the product, price and go lower then that 2) use their name and give them ur name 3) small talk to break ice 4) act like u don’t know anything so they teach u about the product 5) see why they r selling 6) ur first offer is annoyingly low but not offensively low 7) don’t break the silence 8) smile, toes pointed to them, eye contact, shake hands before and after the deal
Another great, very helpful video. I should get a lot of benefit out of this one for sure. You sure do crank these things out. I made a couple short videos with Videoscribe and it took me days.
Well businesses or people usually aren't selling the product at the price its worth, they mark it up to a price that will get them a reasonable profit, without most customers complaining. You're already being taken advantage of in a way, but you see it as ethical because it's standard.
Im a salesman and been for 4 years. Some costumers knows how to negotiate and some costumers are “the tip provider” in this comment section. Annoying, disrespectful and time wasting. Negotiation depends on situation and not that every thing you read here you can implement on every situation. Its all about outsmarting the seller
I went to a county fair ( I love county fairs ) and saw a benchmade mini grip for 120 bucks. With these skills I got it to 60 and the best part is I cgecked it and its a real benchmade. Lol
it's a real luck to get it at half the price since at fairs they don't even care if you would not be liking to pay even 110 bucks. They have ample sales and won't even bother letting anyone bargain and expect you to pay as much as other are readily paying.
When I was in the US, haggling was one of the challenging issues of mine. When I asked people could you make a discount they didn't understand me. Then I was continuing like Could you off the price please? Is this the last price etc... How can you ask someone to reduce the price I still don't know. Someone answer, please.
Uh costed is a word though? And yeah, bartering is for trading either goods or services FOR goods or services. Haggling is when you try to lower the price.
You went out of your way to type this. Meaning it took a deliberate effort for you to be a rude person that day (a year ago) I hope you have gained some wisdom since then.
Sorry to point this out, but that’s not the definition of “bartering”, maybe you’re thinking of the word “bargaining”? bartering is specifically a cashless exchange where you only swap goods, not money.
Translating the video: "how to manipulate people". The problem is : often times I know exactly how the person is trying to manipulate me and I think: "how can this person be so stupid to the point of thinking that I am stupid enough to buy into it?"
I have a question about this. I am saving up for a new drum kit, it’s quite pricy but would it be appropriate to negotiate a lower price before I have the money and lock that price in as I already have a conversation via email with a nice guy who works there. Thanks

Its funny to me that some of my friends can just go in a store and buy shoes for like 40% less and get a free shirt or something and when i try to do the same they are just like i can do 5% less

- You need a value that makes the seller and you happy
- Find a fair price and substract 10-30%
- Build rapport
- Nu. 1 thing to do is; ask their name and use it - !!!
- Talk about anything just talk and make them like you-not to short to not break the ice but not to long to don't know why you're here
- Find things you have a common interest in
- Have some good time and form a friendship
- Wait
- Persistence is key
- Don't even say the price in the first 5 minutes
- Let him teach you
(doesn't apply for every salesmen: prepare for the worst scenarios and learn as much as you can about the product to avoid scams)
- Play dumb
- Stand your ground
- Get to know the person, why they sell it-their motive
- If they need e.g. 50$ (alternate factor)-that's the lowest price
- If they steamroll the product, they may hide something
- Quick deals can lead to buyers remorse
- Numbers
- Never give your price floor (highest or lowest you're willing to pay)
- Try to say a price for the first time that's almost annoying but not offensive
- Try 80% off-may seem like a scam and they'll likely say no; but if you say a higher you will be wondering what was the lowest price
- Low enough to say no but not offensive
- Silence is important!
- After you asked for a price, make sure not to say anything else until they talk
- Don't be scared by silence in negotiating
- They'll probably think for a couple of seconds-'ll be uncomfortable but resist the urge
- Body language
- Smile
- Toes pointed towards them
- Remove object between you
- Shake hands after you said hello and after the deal is done
- Get out of jail card
- Have a permanent, immediate reason to leave
- Like kids, wife, doc etc.
- Some may will ask for the lowest price you are willing to pay
- Say "As little as possible"
"...not low enough that it's offensive." ... *proceeds to offer 80% off their price*
what ... ?
exactly
Well for stores where you can and or supposed to haggle they tend to jack up the price so much to catch unsuspecting people who can't haggle for shit... so yeah. In that case, what he suggests is fine

bartering is when you trade an object for another object ex. a shirt for some shoes
This is a touchy subject to me because skilled negotiators tend to be the same ones that take advantage of people in an unethical, unfair way.
Well businesses or people usually aren't selling the product at the price its worth, they mark it up to a price that will get them a reasonable profit, without most customers complaining. You're already being taken advantage of in a way, but you see it as ethical because it's standard.

So informative. Iam amazed, keep up the good work!

Why not give a ceiling? I've seen one haggling like this and he did an awesome job.

0:11 Haggling is getting a better price. Bartering is trading without cash, service for service, good for goods, etc. Maybe you meant Bargaining.
Bartering is not haggling. And “costed” isn’t a word
I never new that. huh
Uh costed is a word though?
And yeah, bartering is for trading either goods or services FOR goods or services. Haggling is when you try to lower the price.

If you're going to use idiomatic expressions, look up what they mean and how to say them first.
