    I’ve had an OutIn Nano for a few months that I use in the kitchen (haven’t used it outdoors yet) because I’m too impatient for a real espresso machine. I used the small basket that comes with it for a few weeks and got surprisingly good espresso from it, albeit a ridiculously small output. I quickly realized I needed the basket plus and am glad I bought one. Filling it is so much easier due to its size and the funnel. The tamper with the funnel combination works great. I use a 1Zpresso hand grinder (set to 16 clicks, on average, depending on the particular roast). I fill the water chamber to Max (just above 70 ml) and get a consistent 50 ml output. I use boiling water becIm in the kitchen and it’s easy and quicker. I don’t see much difference in taste between the different basket sizes - both a make very good shots. If you’re on the fence about buying an OutIn Nano, go on and try it. Be sure to get the basket plus - it’s completely worth the extra $40.

    Cool video, well done, thanks.
    2:46 “looks like a thermos”, takes lid off, “now looks a little more like an espresso maker”. But also kinda looks like a thermos without its lid?

    Thanks for the vid review. Super cool to know that a portable espresso machine that can heat up water exists! Taking a kettle (especially if you need one that uses fuel) is a pain. This is kinda game changing!

    Great video thank you. I have never heard of this device before. Looks pretty cool, I do have a question, if I buy the plus accessories will the replace the stock accessories as far as fitting together for on the go, or do I have to carry the plus accessories separately in another carrying case ?

    • @coffeechronicler
      @coffeechronicler  17 дней назад

      Thanks! The basket, cap and "portafilter" can be locked in and stored in regular fashion. But there's no "natural place" for the tamper, funnel, and wdt. The tamper and funnel fit together though, so they will be stored as a single unit.

    Is the battery easily replaceable? Can it handle doing a series of back-to-back shots or does it need a break in between to cool down or something along those lines?

    • @coffeechronicler
      @coffeechronicler  17 дней назад

      Not sure about the battery. They don't mention it on their website. Back-to-back shots are fine if you use preheated water.

    • @winexprt
      @winexprt 3 дня назад

      The non replaceable battery is a concern for me as well. This looks like such a nice gadget, but like a lot of today's tech it's essentially a disposable item due to everything being sealed inside and not user serviceable.

    I wonder how robust the pump will be. Do they guarantee a number of shots before failure?

    • @coffeechronicler
      @coffeechronicler  17 дней назад +5

      My experience with these small pumps is that they are not a likely point of failure. And didn't see any red flags when checking out customer reviews. I would be more worried about battery life span.

  • @tummy_fritters
    @tummy_fritters 17 дней назад +1

    My first thought was that batteries would be added weight if you were hiking, but compared to the weight of the grinder it's probably pretty negligible. I mean, nobody is adventure racing with an espresso setup lol

    • @coffeechronicler
      @coffeechronicler  17 дней назад +2

      You could always pregrind and vacuum pack. For a daytrip I find that it's an okay solution.

  • @foapw
    @foapw 17 дней назад

    So would you store water in a thermos to use with brewing? Or can I just leave it in the device

    • @coffeechronicler
      @coffeechronicler  17 дней назад +4

      If I'm somewhere outside I'll just use drinking water from a bottle I have with me and let the machine heat it. But at a hotel room I'll use a kettle to save battery life.
      In theory you could store water inside the device's reservoir, but the cap is not screwed in securely, so I probably wouldn't run the risk.

    • @DavidSinanan
      @DavidSinanan 17 дней назад +2

      I'd be interesting to see the results with water preheated and stored in a Thermos and using the heater function. It 'should' in theory be a compromise on battery life if you use mostly hot water to start...no?

    • @coffeechronicler
      @coffeechronicler  17 дней назад +2

      @@DavidSinanan Yeah, I think that should save some battery life, so maybe you can get one or two more shots out of it.

    • @coffeechronicler
      @coffeechronicler  14 дней назад

      It's a bit of an apple and orange comparison, but with the basket kit I think it makes just as good espresso and is a lot more flexible in terms of heating, capsule options and ultra-lungo shots (more about that later :)

    I have another Strauss story..
    While wearing one of my technologically innovate Engelbert Strauss tops, a colleague ‘curiously’ asked:
    I didn’t know you supported Tottenham Hotspur’s? Almost offended (because I’m born in and supported Arsenal - the top cup winners here, where Spurs are next level not winning) I replied “I don’t” what brought that on? And they pointed at the Strauss logo on my top…
    Guess it resembled the Spurs mascot they have on their tops..
    😅
