  • Harrison County Fire Rescue was dispatched to a report of pallets on fire at a pallet company on Hwy 49 at 12:25 pm May 22, 2024. The first units arriving found heavy smoke and fire showing. Mutual aid assistance for trucks, manpower and tenders were requested. Gulfport Fire Department, CRTC (Ms. Air National Guard Combat Readiness Training Center Fire Dept.) Post 58 Hancock Co. and Kessler Air Force Base, all sent manpower and equipment. Harrison County Road Dept. AMR, Harrison County Sheriff's Dept. and Ms. Highway Patrol, assisted with equipment and support. The fire ended up involving some ten thousand pallets. Several structures were endangered along with a mobile home sales park. Crews working the fire were able to contain the fire to the pallets and no structures were lost. Ms. Forestry Commission responded to assist with the fire that extended into a wooded area. Seven acers were burned before being contained. The American Red Cross provided water and food supporting the firefighters on the scene. US 49 was closed for several hours due to the fire. No injuries were reported. Fire crews spent over six hours on scene. The fire cause was accidental.
