  • Engine 502 assisting Station 58 (Rawlinsville) with a 2 Alarm wood pallet shop fire. Initial units were sent for a trash fire. While operating, the fire grew too intense for the units on scene and engulfed a large supply of pallets and a nearby building. Several firetrucks and many sections of hose were damaged as they attempted to move further back. The growing blaze caught powerlines on fire which dropped down on the side of the road limiting access. The extreme heat also caused the road bank on the opposite side of the street to catch fire. Engine 502's crew deployed several lines including 2 connected crosslays, and a 400 foot line. Other crews assisted with stretching a 2.5 blitzfire line off the rear of the Engine. The Engine also supplied Tanker 58 who was empty. Once crews found a safe way to get around the powerlines, the crews were able to attack the fire and stop it from spreading to the adjacent building. Pictures of the incident are included at the end. Willow Street Fire Company. Taken 4/16/24
Engine 502 is a 2010 Pierce Arrow XT

    FAQs-
    Q: "Where is this?"
A: Our fire house is located in the town of Willow Street, just south of Lancaster City, Lancaster County Pennsylvania.
Q: "What is the spinning thing?"
A: That is called the "Roto-Ray," it is a spinning light designed to catch drivers attention.
Q: "Why is the call so far away?" or "Why does it take so long to get there?"
A: Many of our responses, or at least many of the ones that are uploaded are responding to assist other departments. Usually another firehouse can be seen or is passed by who is already on the call. We can reach the far end of our first due in West Lampeter Twp within 5 minutes, and in Providence Twp about 7.
Q: "What camera are you using?"
A: For dash cams I use a GoPro Hero 7, helmet cam videos I use a FireCam 1080

Based on reports, I read that was an extreme fire to manage with wind and other variables to work around. Loss of equipment and damaged trucks is bad, but everyone stayed safe for another day. Good work by all the companies that responded.
