if I may tell you something about Machina before you dismiss him, there is a BIG reason why he became...the way that he was in this game. If you read the novel, which is the experiment done by mother BEFORE the events of the game, when Machina finds out about Izana's death, he doesn't get angry with class Zero like he does in this game. He understands actually, that this is war and his death isn't Class Zero's fault but the wars instead.
This way, he built a bond with class zero, taught them about life outside of being trained as weapons, gave them the hope of having dreams - where class zero talked about what they wanted to become after the war ended. "Mother" aka Arecia didn't like that. Machina was weakening them - since she wanted them to become agito but after the million times she did the experiment, class zero always chose to remain human and died. So, Machina was in the way. At the end, Rem become the judgement after Cid dies, she kills everyone and Queen jumps in the way to save Machina. They all do this to protect him and gives them their phantoma so he could defeat Rem. Machina ends up killing Rem and while he is there crying surrounded by the dead bodies of his comrades and love, Arecia appears and tells him that this was all his fault, that it was because of HIM class zero strayed from their paths. So, he begs her to "fix this" and that no matter what, he wanted things to turn back.
So, then comes the events of the game. Arecia made sure that in this experiment Machina wouldn't be a hindrance to her plans to open Etro's gates since that is what she wants out of the experiments. But no matter what, in the end, Machina loses everyone over and over again.
"But the bond formed between Machina and Rem and Class 0, she felt, would weaken her children. Over the course of events of this cycle, Machina has developed a thirst for power, a fear of loss. Those feelings would surely be etched onto his soul. So that Machina would distance himself from Class 0, Arecia would have to make someone close to him weak. And that would have to be none other than Rem. So she drew their Phantomas, and rewound time."
So she even made Rem sick this time.
So, don't shit on him. Arecia is the true "poop" character. If you don't believe this than recall why Cater always brought up "da ja vu" because they've done this a million times but they cant really remember their past lives. Read the novel. There's many translated summaries out! Yes, the novel is canon. Let me try to find you a post with the translated summary.

This ending just... Wow. All these guys knew was combat and I thought, based off the chat before they left for Cid's lair, that this would be them finally getting the chance to live.
Yeah I was all smiles when I saw them having fun in the classroom till Kurasmae walked in , my boyfriend even said out loud "oh shit"

Yes but I already knew Zack was going to die from FF7 so even though I liked him it wasn't shocking or as emotional as this. For me at least. That scene was done beautifully too though

i felt so attached to these characters especially king and eight the most and ace was my favorite this literally brought tears to my eyes and no other final fantasy has done this
All these people saying Arecia is evil, she's actually the one betting on humanity to become Agito and open Etro's gate themselves, it's Gala the other god who causes Tempus Finis and summons the Rusus to slaughter humanity hoping to tear the gate open with an influx of human souls. The Arbiter is also his design, fun fact, although Cid was the final antagonist it was not by his doing, he actually commits suicide to try and stop himself becoming the arbiter. Arecia has to remain somewhat neutral, the world has failed to become agito over 60 million times, each and every time she has to observe the world throughout all of its countless cycles then pick the 16 aspects of humanity she wishes to nurture to become Agito. 4 of these were the negative aspects and thus weeded out, Machina and Rem represent 2 of those. Class Zero are the 12 best traits and normally every cycle they become L'cie and die fighting the invasion.
additional fact:
Rem and Machina are those 2 weeped out from the 4. the other 2 remaining was Tiz(Ten), and Lean Joker(Joker or 0)
The 4 wiped out arent exactly negative, just not required.
Rem is Love, and because of the self-sacrificing nature of Love was the one always pushing then to become L'Cies.
I shed some man tears after seeing this ending, you'd have to have a steel heart not to feel anything. It's so rare to see this kinda thing in a FF game these days.
I powered through Cinque(My favorite) crying but it was the their....MONUMENT OF BODIES AND WEAPONS that opened the flood gates for me. I love/hate the game for this ending

She is the reason for all the wars, the reason why class zero has died over a million times in the millions of times she did the same experiment all to open etro's gate. Read up on it. She is the true monster. I hate her so much. and what hurts the most is class zero dies thinking fondly of her.

***** Is she REALLY a Fal'Cie, though? I think she's larger than that. Judging on how her and gala destroyed and recreated the world 600,000,000 times, something the FF13 mythos Fal'Cie couldn't even do once, I would think that they are more powerful than a simple Fal'Cie. The Fal'Cie are powerful, yes, but they are nothing to these two or the surrounding pantheon. Bhunivelze, Etro, Mwynn, Pulse, Lindzei... Simply put, there is only one Fal'Cie who could even come close to these two in power, and that's Pulse, AKA the first Fal'Cie. They are agents of Lindzei.
But in summary, Arecia came out all right. Gala is still pure f*cking evil though.
***** That is a incontinuity that is going to bother the hell out of me. They're the same mythos, why are the Fal'Cie weaker in one? I get it that Type 0 takes place in an alternate dimension that runs parallels to 13s (also controlled by Bhunivelze and Lindzei), but it just seems off.
she could've brought class zero to life again when they died defeating Cid but they chose to stay dead. she did really care about them and believed if they become agito and open Etro's Gate.
This final boss is basically Final Fantasy X ... except you replace killing off the Aeons with killing off your own party in the form of Class Zero to deal the finishing blows on the guy ...
It's really tragic ... like ... seriously. Wow. I had so many feels ...
the real final boss was braskas final aeon. Yu Yevon was basically a gimme fight meant for story purposes.

In case anyone missed it, the flag at the end is made up of their capes.
Really don't get all this machina hate. He did what any human that wanted to protect something dear would have done.
And he was the most human out of the group.
Yes he is imperfect but that's the point he learns and becomes a better person through these experiences and he dedicates his life to recording the great deeds of class 0.
So does he start out a prick? Yes but he becomes a better person who rebuilds the nation.

Katherine Merkel Well if you read the long comment I posted on here...there is a big eexplanationas to why Machina ends up being the way that he is. But you are right, Machina understood death unlike them. So if you talked to them in the class room before they went out to fight cid, most of them said they finally understood machina because now mother was not going to be there to revive them so they knew death was coming.
By the way do you think the samurai in type 1 is ace.
Honestly ace's popularity is making people weird.
Tabata wouldn't revive class 0 due to the cycle ending so it can't be ace.
And the message tabata wished to convey in type 0 would unravel.

Lunardivider24 to be honest machina was the most out standing character in there,he also had one of the most character progession. Thats why at the end he learned to what actually happens and so he fixes what he did by helping the world.

But even knowing all this about him, he's still a terrible character to me. His overall design and character puts me off.
the translation of the song Zero pisses me off by how inaccurate it is in some parts. The part where Rem is crying and it says "I know the way you feel you don't have to lie to me" the damn song is actually saying " even if you can't smile like you did on that day" how the HELL is that even close of a translation!?!?
Seeing my favorite characters in that pile (Seven, Sice, Trey, and King) was quite disheartening.
And by disheartening, I mean I was trying not to bawl my eyes out.

Throughout this entire game, I despised Machina. His character felt forced and bland.

Wow what a game and what an ending! Insanely emotional. FF type-0 in my opinion had the best combat of any final fantasy, you could never get bored with such a diverse range of combo's, attacks, set ups and such a healthy monster rota. I'm interested to know what others peoples set ups were to give me some ideas when I go back to complete this game on 'Finis'. My main set up was Jack, Sice and Seven. (Jack OP, Sice maelstrom/death aura ftw, Sevens whip blade too fukin awesome to resist)
Machina became a li CIE and he was forced by the crystal to kill Rem and betray his nation.
So I finished the game today and I honestly felt really sad that they all died, like I honestly got attached to all of them and to find out that they all died kind of just made me sad in the end. And if their is a sequel coming I hope they can bring them back at all. I just can't get it passed through my head that they all died, like they really killed the entire main cast to the game.
sarmientojeffrey40 Well, there won't be any sequels. Definitely prequels though. To make things simple. The story of orience has repeated itself over 6 million times, this ending is the final cycle. So if there are any other games related to type 0 it will be the story of a previous cycle.

Does anyone know the song played throughout ? not ZERO by bump chicken but the one used in the beginning when they are climbing; before the scene where rem and machina first confronted each other. I just love those kinds of music xD haha
It got to me that they all died in the same position similar to their intro at the start of the game when they are all under the Vermillion flag with their weapons out.
I'm glad that Machina and Rem survived. As much as people are hating on Machina he was one of the easiest characters to follow given he had one of the only experienced voice actors in the game. Some of class zero just sounded cringe worthy to listen to. And after the whole torment with his brother dying and wanting to protect Rem, become stronger to protect her, shut everyone else out to do so. Then when it was actually him who (technically) kills her by accident. I think they deserved a break. On another note the fact that class zero's final act was putting up that monument behind them out of their weapons and cloaks for a 'graceful' and 'this is where we died' moment was just too much!

I used an Elgato Game Capture HD 60 to record the footage. I didn't experience any problems recording it, though. Have you checked the settings of your console?

This might be a bit of a stupid question, and maybe I never looked into the archives in-game too much, but can anyone tell me why Ace was able to remember Izana (Machina's brother) when he slept on the bench or Commander in this ending? I was under the impression that the Crystal erased all memories of the dead.
This reminds me of Final Fantasy 8 and the SEED. I like it! The graphics may not be as astounding as FF13, but I'd choose a better gameplay over graphics (following the standards of today's technology of course). I want to play the PSP version of this one.

jake brown I kicked ass half of the time with Queen, actually. I used her a good portion of the game, and the missions.
I actually think this was among the best endings in the Final Fantasy series. Most others have the typical happy feel-good ending. So, for this one to go the opposite way was a nice twist.
A question, though. We know Class 0 died, but I'm not sure I understand what the rest of the outside world ended up like. It still looked dark and gloomy. Did the world go into a post-apocalyptic state after all that? I hear a second playthrough opens things up more, so I'm about to start a second round.
After Class Zero died, The crystal lost their power because Arecia cease from the continent and abandon her experiment. The world went to almost apocalyptic state. Machina became new leader of the continent and the prosper return to the world.
Also, since all crystal lost their power, including Suzaku's, all moogle died in the game.
LOL man, what gave you the illusion that FFs have happy endings? The series is 36 years old and since 2001 (13 years), most of it main titles has sad or heavy felt endings :D Even older title like F6 and 7 doesn't feel happy.

so tragic, they went through all of that, they get to that happy moment and then
it goes back to reality, they're all close to dying and start crying, urrgh so much feels so hard to contain
even sadder they manage to get through it all and laugh and then the credits....i didn't even realize they made the flag out of their weapons and capes but the fact their corpses hold it up....so many feels
so sad Machina and Rem find them and its like A) how and why are you brought back and B) well i hope you're happy
Atleast they were very much affected by it so much so they dedicated their lives to making the world better through class 0 example, that was very nice development for them

Damn I just started it.😢 the only other ff that made cry was crisis core.

I really love all the characters and to see they all die in the ending is just too painful and sad..
Machina was stupid throughout the game. He wanted power so much to protect the people he loves and ended killing them instead, like Rem. But, I read the manga and yeah, Arecia is evil in the manga. She's the one that cause Machina to be stupid. She even made Rem sick so that Class 0 didn't become weak. But, in the end SE made Arecia opened her heart to listen to the souls of her children, that's why she didn't revived them cause they decided to stay humans and die together. Arecia even end the spiral and erase the Crystals' existences. This way, Machina and Rem won't forget their times with Class 0. Even if they died, their memories stay inside Machina and Rem's hearts and that's what important.
Throughout the game, the fact that they can't remember the person who died really just make me mad. So, I'm glad that they fixed that in the end.
Still.. the ending is just too sad. This probably the saddest FF game I've ever played. Fabula Nova Crystallis series is really twisted and complicated. The storyline is great but yeah, damn complicated.
SE should release a more laid back and happy FF game next time cause my heart is really damaged after playing this one.
You had to read the manga to know that Arecia was bad? please... i have 1 day playing the game and I discovered it... just choose Machina or Rem and go talk with her at the beggining of the chapter 1 after the cementery in the magic lab..

Wait.... Is the 2nd ending the l'cie path? If so, please don't. I'm not going to spoil you the l'cie ending but what I'm going to tell you is after you see the ending, you'll just see a game over screen.
jc9622 no, the 2nd play through on some of the regular missions you get a second choice - and you go with the second option which is a beefed up harder alternate route. Do those - then on your third play through go to the crystarium and you get your new ending

I really wanted to cry a bit at the end of the game, but I really couldn't connect with any of the characters. Not enough time was spent with each individual member of class zero for me to make a connection with any of them. Something that has never happened to me while playing an FF game. Machina didn't realize his mistake until it was too late and Rem just never felt like anything other than something to give Machina a narrative.
Overall I felt like I could have loved these guys and in the end I could only pity them :(
Also the plot didn't seem coherent at all. To the point where things just seemed to happen either to force drama or make things more intense. I see that people say I should do a second playthough and I think I will because as of right now I am very dissatisfied with how the story was told.
I have many things to say but I just finished this game on my first run and I'm so sad.
Seven is my favorite out of all the characters.

The reason why many died at the Rurus invasion because any wounds that Rurus inflicted is directly to your Phantoma and any damaged that your Phantoma is received is incurable.

This took me a while to figure out as well, but basically: you finish the game a second time in New Game Plus and once you have, check under the History tab. Way down at the bottom are two cutscenes, which are the alternate ending + credits.

jojkill New Game Plus is your completed save from your first playthrough. When you finish the game for the first time, you're given the option to save. When you load that save, you start the game from scratch, but with all your stats and loadouts intact.

Their phantasms were destroyed in that final battle and they were basically doomed and they all knew it to they spoke of the future to make themselves feel better
Oh and mother brought machina and rem back so that there would be people who wouldn't forget what her students have done for the world since they were going to be forgotten when they die

Yea apparently rem and machina transferred their l'ce powers and one by one they all got reked by that thing after doing damage to it or you could say that their powers gave them enough strength to fight back once more but not enough to to stay alive

Kinda suck they cut the japananese voice song in the english version of the game because the song go really well with the atmosphere of the situation in the ending and I didn't really care if the song wasn't sang in english at the end.I hope if they do a Final Fantasy type-0 portable HD they don't remove the japanese voice because I really liked the song at the ending with the japanese voice it was really beautiful like a scream of the heart but it was only correct to keep the unfinished zero song in english voice with the scene of Kurasame and students deaths at the graveyard, the completed song in japanese should have stayed with the game ending in north America version,Lastly the original words of the song are better than the translated english version you can see it by tapping: Cover: Zero by BUMP OF CHICKEN Gendou Idol Season 8: bluerem on youtube,it's heart warming and describe really well the game event and how strong a person is with someone by his side and they can face death with a smile because the person they cherish is here holding them with their body and are a emotional support and that even if they can't smile like they used to because of their suffering and sadness of the war (the case of FF type 0)
