There are Velcro strips you can buy at Home Depot. One version is continuous and can be used as a wrap, cut where ever it needs cutting. The other version is more like shorter ties that can be strung together to form a tether. In the case of tying cabling to spots that are kind of "out there", the piece approach may be better, allowing you to tailor what and how you tie. In the case of simply looking to clean up a messy looking longitudinal area, a wrap might look better. These Velcro straps can be had in different colours, albeit not a huge selection.

I was simracing for like 5 or 6 years before I finally bought an H-pattern shifter, and I regret going that long without one. Fun and immersion went through the roof. That and loadcell pedals were a BIG upgrade. The H-Pattern totally transformed RaceRoom for me, drifting in the Audi 92 DTM car became so enjoyable once I had a reason to use the clutch.

    • @oktc68

I've been meaning to get a shifter for so long! Now I've finally got the basics crammed into my tiny gaming space, and I'm happy with them, I think it's time to buy one, I avoid driving H pattern with paddles, just doesn't feel right. A good load cell brake pedal is a game changer, doesn't need to cost a fortune either (CSL Elite V2's would be a good place to start)

Can’t believe no tactile transducers(buttkickers) were mentioned. The 4 corner custom setup I made using simhub and $200 usd worth of parts increased immersion and consistency by just as much as ffb and load cell pedals. It was like adding a whole other dimension to my setup.

I would add to that a bass shaker. It doesn't have to be big or expensive. For 100$ you can get something decent including a small amp. On top of adding a lot to immersion, it can even help with car control by simulating wheel slip. But mostly it adds a ton to the immersion. To feel the engin vibrating, the rumble strips in the corners and the thump of a gear change is indescribable. Now, whenever I use a rig with no shakers, it is like going back to a wheel with no FFB.

Small DIY tip for the keyboard holder: if you have a sim rig your office chair is probably just standing around. Put it next to your rig and you essentially have a free keyboard tray.

I bought a keyboard and mice tray. It wasn't practical, always akwardly placed.
I "upgraded" to the 10$ ikea TV unit table. So much more convenient. And with the money saved I bought a "bartop" carpet thingy with a cool car illustration (a mustang) for like 20$. It's still is much cheaper than any off the shelf keyboard tray and works much better.
I also use it to hold my wheel, a gamepad for casual gaming (not sim related) and a bunch of other stuff, so cheaper and more Is a massive win in my book

I'm using our old home theater around my cockpit for sound it's a game changer, you can hear your tires better and it feels more natural. And the subwoofer emulates exhaust sound really good.

Hey OC, thanks for recommending reasonable/reasonably affordable gear here. It's easy for creators to say, "yeah you need a $5k DD base, wheel and pedal setup, a 6dof full motion rig, a sound system designed for a cinema" and so on. One thing I recommend, while not the perfect replacement for a keyboard and mouse combo, is the Logitech K400. If you're willing to do with a keyboard that doesn't have the 10-key pad, it substitutes a trackpad on a compact wireless device. Because I have limited space and use a VR setup, it's a great solution to save me from m feeling around for the mouse! I use a magic, space aged material called 'velcro' to stick it to the top of my wheel base!

    • @smallbutdeadly931
      @smallbutdeadly931 Год назад +2

After going with VR I can't go back. I'd say the main complaint for most people is comfort and FOV, the latter being something that can't be helped for now.
It is only uncomfortable if you don't have a headset that has no proper solution for keeping it on your head, like the stock Quest 2 headstrap. I got a 3rd party strap from Studioform Creative for my HP Reverb G2 that goes on top of the stock headstrap and makes it essentially act like a halo strap. You won't believe how much that helps reduce sweating.

Took me 2 or 3 days to gain my vr legs again with racing because it's a little different than flying. But each time you start to feel weird just take a break. I don't have a god tier sim rig- i have a foldable NLR cockpit with a DIY single monitor stand, which also holds my keyboard and acts as a shelf for my phone, drink, etc.
Can confirm- every little bit of QOL upgrade helps me get into the sim more.
If you're starting out and find that you dread attaching the wheel to your desk, getting into position, etc .. and find yourself driving less because of it- invest in your rig. The easier you make getting on the road, the more you'll do it... And this usually leads to a happier life.

I still can't deal with those bezel things. They just blur/smudge it for me, still VERY noticeable and It breaks immersion for me more than the bezel

The best thing one can do is either move to monitors with small bezels (more expensive) or just go VR where it's VERY immersive.

There’s a lot of good content from other more experienced iRacing RUclipsrs that give a lot of good advice. I would recommend you check those out as they’re probably more qualified on the subject than me lol. Thanks for the support!

Vibration!!! If you don't want to go DIY, you can by something like the realtus or Jetset. Trust me. For 200usd the inmertion it gives is PRICELESS

imo buy a samsung g9 and if you want an even more immersive experience get vr too. Not every game has vr, but just using the 1 monitor will save you a lot of pain.

Anybody got a better recommendation for a solid wireless headset that doesn't break the bank? I got the HyperX Cloud Alpha wireless, and aside from the long battery life, they often have a very slight delay in the sound which can become really distracting mid-race. Thanks in advance!

    • @Elijah1573

I use the corsair HS80 and i love it
Never noticed any latency and the battery life has always been enough to last a day as long as i plug it in overnight
Remember to turn off the RGB in the settings though
Imo its pretty pointless on a headset and it improves battery life a ton
Actually just realized thats what he used in the video too
anyway great headset i recommend it if you still need a headset
