  • It’s clear when it comes to campers, there’s a world of choice almost as vast as there is for cars altogether.
At one end of the spectrum you might have something like a rooftop tent for your ute or SUV, setting you back a few thousand dollars, and at the other you have something like this: the Trakka Akuna.
A completely self-contained camper, this latest innovation by the Australian campervan specialist resides on a relatively compact mid-wheelbase VW Crafter base.
So, maybe you’ve found this review at the beginning of your search for the right camper, maybe you’re specifically looking for something as purpose-built as this, either way I took it for a weekend away to use all of its features and find out what it’s like to hopefully help you decide if it’s right for you.

Thanks for being honest, pointing out the good and not the not so good.

What about the Solar system ? wattage ? Lithium Batteries etc ? Does it have enough wattage to run a Induction cooker ? Microwave ?
$150,000 for this ! UG! I understand Euro vans are expensive - $50,000 to $100,000 but still. I would want a slide-out for that price. I could get a Chinese LDV V80 LWB High Roof for half that price - $40,000. I've seen many home-built campers with great ideas, at a far cheaper price.

So I could have 15 $10,000 Luxury 4 week holidays for 15 years or this van with a bed?

Luxury Hotels instead of untouched wilderness? I know which one I’d choose, though I’m not materialistic.

Akuna matata is a swahili word which means no problem, the vehicle looks cool though

Considering that I don't plan to be waxxinated at all....I know i'll be out of work soon.
I'll end up homeless...so I need to come up with a solution.
But $150K+ is a bit too heavy.

. . . . stopped watching after the faults - the whole top gets hot and melts a plastic cup!! Really for a $150K. Cabin smells of diesel fumes when running the cooker etc again for a $150K. Trakka need to seriously focus on these fundamentals rather than a fancy slide out toilet. Also a bed you can't sleep in if you are over 1.5m . . . . Also looks like you can't get out of the drivers seat when the tables up for a meal . . . think again Trakka. There is a real market for this and there is a massive amount of choice on the European market that could be uprated for local conditions. Don't re-invent the wheel badly!

I see you testing so many cars around Akuna Bay, yet when you get one that shares its name, you don't take it there!

There are probably no camping grounds in Akuna Bay
