I'm anticipating an absolute bloodbath in the animated category at the Oscars this year: The previously mentioned "Spiderman: Across the Spiderverse" and Pixar's "Elemental", yes, but also Laika Studio's (!) "Wildwood" and of course, Miyazaki's massively anticipated "How Do You Live?" are amongst the many animated features being released in 2023.
On top of the critical big guns, you have Dorota Kobiela's hand-painted feature "The Peasants", Annapurna's fan-rescued "Nimona," and Netflix's "High in the Clouds" with original music penned by Paul McCartney. Add on some potential studio hit films like "The Super Mario Bros Movie", "Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget", Disney's "Wish", and "TMNT: Mutant Mayhem," and this looks like it could be a banner year in animation.

@@nms7872 While I will admit that while I'm not super well versed in Film Criticism, and I don't entirely know what really constitutes an "Art Film" and what doesn't, I am hoping that that is what this film will be. I remember seeing a comment on the trailer of the film that was slightly serious, slightly joking that said, "Who knew they would make Barbie into a surreal art film." The trailer itself satirizes 2001 A Space Odyssey, the production design looks out of this world, and in interviews either the writer or director said that they wanted to tell a story with this movie. I think there's something more to this movie than just "a live action film about Barbie dolls". I may very well be ultimately disappointed, but I hope this film is somewhat like La La Land.

One film that wasn't mentioned that I'm super excited for is Sofia Coppola's movie Priscilla about Priscilla Presley. I'm hoping it goes deeper into her and Elvis's relationship than Elvis (2022) did, since that's one of the more interesting aspects of their lives.

wait, isn't cocaine bear a real story? I remember reading story about bear that ate too much cocaine that falls from the plane.
I actually want to see Titanic in big screen but I don't think it's available in my area.
I don't really watch transformer but I want to see the animal robot so much, gorilla robots just look so good. Same with Barbie, I love the old barbie animation so I just feel like I should see this one, also barbie needs to sing.
idk if there are many movies that I am interested to check out, like I want to check blue beetle but I personally dislike bugs. So to answer the question, there are 5 movies I may see, Transformer, Barbie, Asteroid City, Oppenheimer and Avatar the last airbender.

Hi Dan, I wished you could do justice to documentaries as well. There is some amazing stuff out there, and with Netflix/streaming services in general, I feel like documentaries are making a come back. Alpinism and climbing in general is something that has seen a huge boost in the last 10 years, with stuff such as Free Solo (2018), The Alpinist (2021), or Meru (2015). Those three are not only great feats of climbing, they are amazing human stories as well, one of them being absolutely tragic.
