If you want to see how far the technology has come, take a look at two minute papers, they have some examples that are slightly more convincing than this. What you have to bear in mind here is that the end result is supposed to serve as a warning and that a perfect deepfake was not required to make the point.
Current AI technology is able to create a near perfect deepfake voice synthesis for example, yet creatively the producer decided to go with an impressionist voicing the piece.
All in all it was absolutely perfect for it's purpose, it had me staring at the screen seeing a very good visual deepfake with a constant reminder throughout in the voice telling me that it wasn't real. For me, the feeling of conflict over what I was seeing vs what I was hearing heightened the experience of unease.

Well, Im kind of thinking algorithms lead all of us who question official narratives to a channel separate from other people they have profiled and directed to other videos. I'm not seeing a whole lot of balance in the comments section. Just a thought... One thing I do know is these tech companies love manipulating and controlling. I wouldn't put anything past them or for a second think they have any interest in letting information they don't want to spread... spread. I mean 2 weeks ago I couldn't even find hardly any videos on Fauci's fraud or the covid origins, and now they are popping up in my newsfeed after it came out fauci colluded with zuckerberger.

I've spent over 15 years doing CGI and VFX for living on regular basis, both 3d and 2d/composition. I must say how much frightens me the fact this is barely distinguishable as "fake". I mean - even if i know it is fake and i focused on some things during video - i had hard time to detect some really tiny quirks and oddities (mostly face/head perspective at some points and also sometimes odd head movements, also Queen's hair shows signs of chroma keying and masking at some points). But that's all. If i wouldn't know it is fake i would simply believe to it as real footage. And that's from someone who has high "technical" eye for CGI and VFX. We are doomed, turn TV and internet news OFF, there is no more point to watch them, it really can containg ANYTHING between real truth and real fake.

Usually this is filmed in front of a blue or green screen and the person or object is in a sense cut out and pasted onto a new background. In this case, a room inside Buckingham Palace. Sometimes if the masking around the person or object isn't perfect, there can be details around the edges of the masking called artifacting. Usually bits of blue, green or whatever the original background colour was.

2 things:
• the background looks very rendered and unrealistic (probably deliberate)
• the impression is certainly not that great (probably deliberate) and more of a spitting image parody.
I reckon these things and the general deepfake were on purpose done at a 60% level of realism. They could’ve done it much better, but that probably would’ve landed them in big trouble 😆
I think it’s less of the possibility of lending them in trouble and more of making a point. The whole point of the PSA is to warn the public of falling prey to deepfakes and false information (“fake news” as the millennials call it). That’s probably why they just stopped the deepfake and show the real actress and green screen set at the end of the PSA.
They should have shown that this was done by a single person using nothing but RUclips tutorials and few a technical guide. Because really that is how easy this software is to use.

No it's you that doesn't get it. The technology itself is nowhere near as dangerous as the reaction and fear of it. Channel 4 and other broadcasters don't care about warning the public of the dangers of this technology. (which isn't new technology by the way) They only care about convincing the public that it is more dangerous and concerning than it actually is. Think about it, if everyone is convinced they can't trust anything governments and those in high office can simply do what they want and dismiss any criticism as "fake news" or conspiracy theories. They can also easily deny any lies and wrongdoings by simply stating it was a smear campaign by their opponents. As more and more people revolt against world governments it then gives them reasons to carry out unpopular or controversial laws under the disguise of protecting civil liberties or some other nonsense. We are already beginning to see this with Brexit and coronavirus. Why do you think so many scientists are disagreeing with each other and broadcasters are dumbing down to their viewers.

But let's say you are a politician who addresses your voters directly into the camera without flinching "I have always been honest with you, and ALWAYS will be. I promise."
The opponent does a deep fake - simply, and subtly, making the politician do a "deceit gesture" with his eyes when he says "I promise". Nobody would notice, but that subtle action by the faker would have a massive impact .. maybe even costing our "honest" politician the election.

My wife and I watched this on TV today after having tuned in for the actual speech earlier on BBC.
Whilst this was obviously the "comedy" speech, the louder message that came through was that we all need to keep our eyes on the technical capabilities that Deep Fake opens up. The C4 content references the fact that we all need to question technology and the news, and the way the glitches were filmed shows the true intent of the production team.
I've been playing around with Deep Fake tech recently and this video shows what can be done
Luckily there is software that can easily recognize deepfakes that the human eye can't. Let's hope there will be some sort of regulation to control the spread of "illegal" deepfaking using software to detect it, in the future

This deepfake is very poorly made, probably to introduce it to the general public that still ignores Internet. There are a *lot* better deepfakes out there. They are not yet untraceable by human eye-brain system, but some of them are remarkable pieces of work. This one clearly is not.
@@CharterForGaming for now. But you could probably build the software so that the neural net keeps submitting it work to the fake detection software until it passes. This would create a feed back loop for self improvement of the neural network.

I wonder if the Queen herself actually sits back and watches these things and finds them amusing and entertaining like behind closed doors with no cameras or staff watching. The whole family could find it hilarious and the rest of the world would be none the wiser to it.

I thought it was very disappointing from a technological point of view. It looked like something that could have been done 15 years ago. The corgi looked particularly fake. Why not use a real one? The Queen's mouth looked very odd when she opened it more than slightly, and her expressions were not ones the Queen usually makes. The voice was also not particularly convincing.

Digital work is impressive, but the voice is rubbish.
I'm pretty sure the voice was intentional, it adds to the surrealism and unease. AI voice synthesis has advanced to about the same point as the video, yet the producer for the piece still decided to go with an impressionist. There are some examples by two minute papers if you want a good demonstration.
Only Brits could discern the difference. Most of us Yanks have never heard the queens actual voice.
