Just got this watch. It is absolutely gorgeous. There’s immense depth on the dial which allows the character of the features to really pop. Like a relief map. The light play is awesome through the extremely clear crystal - even in low light. Normally, I would have preferred less whimsical watch hands, but they totally work here. The watch looks substantive, elegant, and playful all at the same time. Definitely the most interesting watch I’ve handled so far. And one I find myself ogling much more than the others I’ve had.
I own Seiko Astron SSH011J1 The best GPS watch ever made by Seiiko. Thanks for your nice video. Made in Japan is the best product on earth - technically - Just 3 second press on button B in the air - the watch get the loco time for a few minute
More than I want to spend but definitely a watch I’d buy if I could properly afford it. My current Citizen uses radio synch rather than GPS and also has solar power and a sapphire crystal. It was US$300 a few years ago, and it has a nice clean white dial rather than the usual tarted-up ones for radio/atomic and GPS watches. Neither Citizen nor Seiko wants to make such a thing now.
My kind of watch; an interesting, beautifully crafted and very accurate piece, but with no ostentatious luxury watch label. So *I* know I have a great watch and everyone else thinks it’s just an ordinary Seiko, which draws no attention.
I great looking watch without doubt. The ceramic bezel is the cherry on the top. It's not cheap but it is a lot of watch that can do more than it first looks. The second time zone is also a plus. Overall the dial is a tad too busy for my old eyes but certainly would suit a younger sporty type than I am. I seem to be going down the more simple looking dial these days (ignoring a chronograph obviously) as my very recent acquisition of a Longines Tuxedo demonstrates (you kindly reviewed this last month). Great camera work as always. Advice from Mrs Spouse was fun as well on this one.
I have the Astron exactly the same as this one, except for the blue bezel, the one I have is the silver. I wonder why are there not so many reviews coming out for this model
Nice review, but I'd like to have seen a demo of its most important feature: auto sync to different time zones. The older Astrons weren't known for their 'speedy' hands, compared to Citizen or Casio GPS watches that use dual coil motors. I believe the 5X53 is much better in that respect.
@@Julian-rt9qs yes that's a limited edition should sell out fast.. why don't you go for the ssh069? It looks better IMHO and also titanium super light.. I have both the stainless steel version and the titanium. To me the titanium is much more versatile and convenient for everyday use. I put a leather strap on the SS version because it was a bit on the heavy side. Also the titanium is 200m compared to SS 100m water resistance. Just a thought. Good luck with whatever you end up getting they are all amazing 😊
@@craik7 Y'know, it's simply that cherry blossom dial and accent on the SSH083. I also have a strong attraction to limited editions, though that's both good and bad lol. I just really enjoy unique things. it was also the first watch I saw when I started to really fall into this world, and it's just so striking. Thanks for your input, those are some good things to consider, especially the weight. I have a couple of Prospex Sumos and they're heavy. I like the feel of the weight but I like a light feeling too. Thanks again
Nice watch, but honestly if I'm going to spend that much, I'll save a bit and get a GS. I do have a flighty, maybe not an Astron, but affordable, and tons of features.
I would love to play with that thing. Super handsome and yes, I agree, I wish it was smaller. What a history too. So here’s a tidbit only a Seiko fan would enjoy. My grandfather turned 60 sometime in the late 1960’s and I was told he bought a Patek for the occasion, but then the jeweler told him about this “new Seiko” that was not only cheaper ( slightly) but a new invention…so I’m guessing it was probably an Astron. I wish I could find out. Anyway. By the time he died it was long gone. ( shouid have bought the Patek) great photography as always!
I think the timezone function is too complicated and I prefer something simpler to manually set or a gmt watch. The dial is gorgeous though. There should just be a button where it sets local time automatically via gps.
Hi, I own this watch. There is no complication. I simply go under the sun and press the button. it will automatically set the time according to local time. also by the way, if you know what time zone you are in, like GMT+3, just move the second hand to #3 and it will automatically set to this time zone. There is dual clock at 6 o clock position.
A beauty! But the mini am/pm dial adds little value, clutters the face and throws out symmetry. I wish Seiko would delete that dial. The second hand is insanely thin, almost invisible, I wish it was more substantial. Agree with you blue/silver/white look amazing. It's still a watch that I instantly want to own.
Beautiful watch. I do admit I probably wouldn't buy one. I think thr features that make it amazing are same things I don't look for in a watch. I like mechanical, guess taking the time to wind it and set it just feels empowering.

For a 13mm thick watch, I think it's amazing how much they are able to fit inside. Just gorgeous.

I own the titanium version of this watch. One of the best reviews for this watch.

Killer watch! I love all the digital technology built into an analog display/functionality.

Ohhhhhhhh finally a GPS watch 😍 I have the ssh063j1 version in silver dial and the ssh019j1 in blue and absolutely loving it 😊
Very nice!
Very nice. I'm DYING to get my hands on the Yozakura model. I love it, and I know the longer I wait the harder it's gonna be to get. :/

I so want a Seiko Astron watch. They look so awesome.
They are very cool!
Thank you for the superb video and watch...
Beautiful watch but I'm curious about the watch in the background?
Lovely watch! I have read some concerns regarding the quality and durability of these pieces. Any thought on that?
It’s quite a hefty pricetag..
I'm unaware of quality issues with the Astron from owners I have spoken to. But have never owned one personally.
Cartier Santos!!!! Arguably the first wristwatch....kinda significant:)
YO! WHERE DID YOU GET THAT SEIKO HAT?!
whoaaa look at those little subdials whirling around wheeeeeeeee! yay!
Beautiful watch and great video, thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Excellent video ,bought one after watching.Love it 👍
Hi, one question ... power save function is airplane function ?
You can save $ with a Citizen Eco Drive Satellite Wave or the Casio Oceanus for similar features.
Thanks for this! Can't wait for mine to show up!
Hope you enjoy it!
I love that bezel color. ^___^
same!
They could put this micro-adjustment on the fly on pretty much every Seiko watches !
Definitely on GMT would be useful when traveling... 😏
Good call!
best reviews ever 😃👍
What I do want is that new in blue Seiko GMT, and that's not cheap either.
also on this watch there is no month indicator
I spoke to Yodabashi in Sapporo and I was told that out of all Seiko's Astron is the No. 1 seller. See the new 40mm Astron.
Nice watch, but honestly if I'm going to spend that much, I'll save a bit and get a GS. I do have a flighty, maybe not an Astron, but affordable, and tons of features.
GS is three times the price.
Were you wearing the crown chronograph re-issue (black)?
yes I am!
Do you have the lug width? I feel this watch would work well with a blue leather strap but for the life of me can't find the lug width.
21mm
@@EscapementWatch Thank you!
I just ordered it today...( in Sweden) for 2450€...
That's a pretty cool clasp and slip too. Is it only the 2 positions or are there multiple?
2 only
@@EscapementWatch with how small that clasp is I'm suprised they haven't added it to grand Seiko and a few more positions and it would be perfect.
Yeah 3 would perfect.

it probably was the legendary first ASTRON

Thank you very much for the kind words
I'd take this over any rolex. Rolex looks trash compared to this. Especially when you think of price.

Thanks for sharing
Have an extensive collection of both mechanical and Asteron watches here...it's fun collecting BOTH!
I also don't like the battery operated ones. this is solar powered so there is a slight difference. It runs naturally.
if only it were titanium, 160gm is a tad heavy for my taste
Totally get that
👀👀👀👍👍👍❤
Seems complicated. My G shock Casioak is easier to work. Bluetooth to my iPhone 😂
Yes it is kind of complicated
You need to divorce your wife for recommending Rolex.
lol if she reads this she will ban you!
