What an interesting review. This is the first time I’ve watched this channel, and it was much more informative than the usual channels, where so many Reviewers spend so much time talking about the style of a car. I will definitely subscribe to your channel.😊
Hi, I have had the XC40 RWD Extended range 2024 model for a couple of days and I have the problem of strong vibrations when I accelerate hard. The seat, steering wheel and chassis vibrate. I am going to proceed to inform the service center
Hmm...I felt the vibrtsion when pressing the accelerator very gently at stand still and eöwhen flooring it. Tried to explain it at the end of my review: ruclips.net/video/5Y4gUtljIdI/видео.htmlsi=ic34EPq4xzriR7g6
Just curious why you mentioned that the efficiency of this Volvo is below what you expected? It seems to be better than the Seal and Ioniq 5, despite those having much lower Cd values. Conditions for the Seal range test seemed quite similar.
Just got my my Single motor EX range today. Will have to try it with longer trip. I live in sweden and its gets cold, i have to see how it handles during minus 10+
Totally correct, I got my Volvo extended range and never gave me autonomy to more than 500 kms fully charged. Way lower than what it was listed. 1 year waiting and I should had bought a Tesla.
Great video. At the end of your video, you recommend the single motor over the twin motor (the latter not being worth the expense). What's your view in extended range vs standard single motor? Is that worth the €3k extra?
I have just done a test drive of xc40 core model with 19'' alloys and felt that the noice from tyres is bit annoying. I am currently driving XC90 plus with 21'' alloys and I dont hear that much noise as xc40. Apart from that, it looks okay. Not sure how it serves me in winter time. I m in Ireland and Irish weather is almost wet half of the year.
Hi. Most often it's due to the higher unsprung mass = the 20" wheels way more and cost more energy to spin. Lay also be due to worse aerodynamics, but in this case it's probably more the mass.
Hello. Thanks for your honest reviews. Today I have been looking at a lot of your test reviews, of course with a big thumbs up. Your test reviews are undoubtedly among the most honest in the industry where it seems that you always are telling us the truth about your personal opinion. I became a bit curious about your composition of roads and speedlimits in your range test. I would guess that you might have close to 50 % highway, but of course it depends on the composition of the type of roads, speedlimits and if you have any road-junctions with low speed. I'm curious because we are considering to buy a twin motor C or XC40 as working car, but the speed limits of the roads we normally are driving will give lower average speed than in your tests. In the summer I have aprox 10 working trips at 200 km with a trailer weight up to 1700 kg, and some km are at every trip in the need of 4x4 and decent ground clearance. I have followed the car market for working cars in Norway for years because I would live to drive emission free in my work. But this is the first electric car with sufficient towing capacity and range driving with a trailer, my needed 4x4, ground clearance and comfort in a resonable price range (I don't need anything extra as a car that normally should just have 2 seats). It's a little to close to the limit at the towing capacity at 1800 kg, but the speed limit with trailer is 80 km/h in Norway. The Norwegian authorities are telling us that we already have emmission free working cars for all needs, but I have to buy a person car with 5 seats, and Norway will not have the needed emission free working cars for a lot of industries when our authorities require this for all new cars from 2025. Thanks for your good reviews😊
Hi! The cycle I'm driving is a mixed cycle with a couple of red lights on and of range and mixed speed limits between 50-110km/h. In average 93km/h. Most of the distance is 100-110km/h. Towing is a though equation. I just did a range test while towing in cold weather with a Model Y. My suggestion would be to use the % diff between not towing and towing and apply that to the expected range of the XC40 from this video. That would give the xc40 in this test a range of 276km in the given weather conditions. During cold winter you will most likely not manage 200km in one go. Here is the towingbtestbifbyou haven't seen it: ruclips.net/video/b0kVFZajp5M/видео.htmlsi=SEQfHj62MFC66eKO
Wish you would review consumption at an average speed of 120. 90km/h is neither a city traffic consumption nor a highway consumption. On the other hand its good to see comparison results.
Get your point. This shows a more realistic range on mixed cycle which would be more for daily driving. For 120 expect a range just above 300 km, the high air resistance will make it suffer.
As one of the cars that uses Android Automotive, have youve seen any improvements to UI, layering as mentioned in your previous video. One of my gripes with anything other than Tesla, is the software (both phone and in car) are not great
Seen a lot of cars using Android based systems, not Android automotive, with layering that works really good. The main problem in this case is probably the small screen.
What app do you use for testing the acceleration? I have the Volvo XC40 MY24 Extended range in white/black, ultimate version - with the 19 wheels and it is a fantastic car. Just love it😍
My Order single motor would deliver around Feb/24 in Australia 🦘🦘, Ordered since June this year, long wait but I think it would worth to wait for my new buying upgrade after 14 years 😊
nobody has done this test with the extended range (or juste a few kilometers!!) :( @@GuillemColomQuesada With the previous one it was 26kWh/100km, and the aerodynamics didn't change so i don't expect any improvement...
It’s a great car but the biggest disadvantage of this car especially for German Autobahns is the fact the in comparison to other competitors obsolete Pilot assist especially for German Autobahns 1. It doesn’t support speeds over - 135 km/h 2. it is not predictive, every cheaper lower class mb4 Plattform car eg cupra Born has this feature. 3. the new bmw i5 , the new VW ID7 and at least the Ford Mustang march e offers now Autonomous Level 2+ drive for 95% at German Autobahns approved by German Kraftfahrbundesamt which means no touching of steering wheel and using of gas pedal and automatical overtaking with lane changing. And at the (x) c40 the speed for the adaptive not predictive cruise control has to be set manually…. It’s Stone Age level😂😮
When i compare EVs tesla come out on top of everything maybe apart from style and when these cars catch up Tesla cars will be able to drive themselves making them obsolete

What about range? Mine is way below the expected range.
Nice review, thx. I'm still exited about this XC40 ER SM. I'm awaiting my order (ordered Jan 23)
Men ce, great var. Hope you get to enjoy it soon..
Got my Plus trim arriving 1st November, single motor version. Upgrading from a 2019 petrol Focus Active X. Appreciate your videos!
Exciting! Your first switch to a fully electric car?
Certainly is! I noticed you said you were 6'3, I'm 6'4, how roomy is it when driving?@@ItsOnlyElectric
The driver space actually surprised me, the high seating position creates more space for your legs.
Beyond beautiful 😻

The consumption is good but considering it's only rear wheel drive and not that powerful compared to some rivals it's still not top class.
Is it reliable?
Just got my my Single motor EX range today. Will have to try it with longer trip. I live in sweden and its gets cold, i have to see how it handles during minus 10+

Sad to hear. Guess it's the non aerodynamic shape that kills it on highway?
Great review
Thank you 👍
How about handling in wet, rainy and snow for the RWD vs AWD? Is it a big difference and worth the AWD expense for bad weather. thanks
I think AWD makes sense if you live or spend a lot of time in snowy and icy conditions.
Great video. At the end of your video, you recommend the single motor over the twin motor (the latter not being worth the expense). What's your view in extended range vs standard single motor? Is that worth the €3k extra?
I would go for extended. Price difference is too small. Range is something you always need.
Especially if it's your main or only car.

XC90 is volvos flagship.you won't experience the same comfort or noise levels in the XC40.
Wow..Thanks for quick reply. you are awesome@@ItsOnlyElectric
Very useful info! The US EPA has this model listed as a 293 mile range, so your 296 was right on. How is the torque for passing at higher speeds?
I experienced the torque sufficient even for overtaking at highways in humane speeds.
Hi, thank you for a good video! How come the larger 20” wheels reduce the maximum distance by 15-20 km compared to standard 19”?
Hi. Most often it's due to the higher unsprung mass = the 20" wheels way more and cost more energy to spin. Lay also be due to worse aerodynamics, but in this case it's probably more the mass.

I was going to change my phev xc40 for this, but wasn’t paying for a downgrade in the seating materials, as leather used to be standard

There is range optimizer, which gives little bit more range. Did you used it?
No, I did not use it in the test. Did not find such setting. Maybe not available when I tested or for RWD version?
@@ItsOnlyElectric Yes, it is there... you can see it in video about 7 min in range assistant view.🙂
I wonder, what results may be with that setting on and with 19" wheels
Going from 20" to 19" will add 11km of range according to spec.

It's a race box mini, the app is only for visualizing the result. Nice choice of car, glad you enjoy it!
Why no Pilot Assist test? That's the biggest Achilles point of Volvos since 2016.
Did test it, not the best system I have tried but still works fine.

Yes it's nice, very Scandinavian like look to it.
Its good that Volvo is actually improving and not just releasing EVs because markets demands..
Yes, that is a good signal to the market.
Bra film!👍 Skulle du hellre ta denna än Polestar 2 lr rwd?
P2 är för liten för mig i min situation med familj. Så jag skulle välja XC40.
No eco mode? Are you sure about that? If I recall correctly there is a setting for "maximum range" or something similar.
Edit: "Range optimizer"
Ok, thanks for pointing that out. That function limits the output of the AC but doesn't affect the drive train.
@@ItsOnlyElectric Buuut it could affect efficiency/consumption, right? Anyway, thanks for an informative video.
@Juoperi yes you are right. Especially in very cold or hot temperatures
hello, no idea of the consumption at 130km/h ? that is THE problem with this car :(
Yes, I get that. Consumes a lot over 100km/h
