    Another great video Robot...BTW, my wife and I bought this exact GTS 300 from Vespa Motorsports in San Diego shortly after you made this video. I changed the turn signal lights to the LED running lights, installed the heated grips and external USB 3.0, added the metal Vespa Motorsports bag holder and Piaggio folding rear rack with the OEM backrest and secured the Thunder bag. All installations were very easy thanks to your tutorials.

    Thieves typically fall into two categories, impulse and planned. The impulse theft sees your scooter and tries to push it away. He is deterred by locking devices. He likely doesn't have tools with him. Kids are typically impulse thieves.
    A planned theft is harder to deter. He may have looked at your scooter and will return later. He may just appear as someone admiring your scoot. He is likely more sophisticated then an impulsive thief. He may have access to cutting tools and may have help.
    Believe it or not a cover is a deterrent! Scooters are eye candy and draw attention. A covered scooter is a question mark in peoples minds. Think Meagan Fox in a Burkha! Vespa? Chinese scooter? A cover also cloaks some security measures such as disc and handbrake locks. Someone standing around a covered scooter or peeking under is rather suspicious. Looking at an uncovered scooter isn't that suspicious. They may show up with cutters to cut your cable but be foiled by your disc lock they didn't know was there. Covered in your yard? Park it along a wall or fence and lean a piece of plywood against wall/fence covering it. Place a propane tank there so they might think it's a BBQ grill! Don't wash or park your scooter in front of your home. If 100 people see it, I can almost guarantee a few think about coming back and stealing it.I am also a big fan of very loud alarms. Some are rather inexpensive battery operated made for bicycles/motorcycles.
    Remember they can't steal what they don't know is there!

      In addition to a secured motorcycle cover, hiding what is beneath, there are some other deterrent/ protection ”layers” needed. There are movement sensitive alarm disc locks, like Abus Granit Detecto X Plus 8008. This would withstand a sledgehammer. There are chains like the ones made by Pragmasis, which would need several minutes, two batteries and 2 to 3 cutting discs for a angle grinder, to cut through. Also, U locks like Litelok X3 which would withstand any bolt cutter, except hydraulic, and angle grinders for several minutes. A surveillance camera and visible signs showing the area is under video surveillance, is also a good deterrent. And the last defense, a GPS tracker hidden somewhere under the scooter fairings. And obviously, as it is USA, an owner, well known as well armed and very proficient in using firearms, would be the ultimate deterrent against any thieves. The solutions presented by Robot in this video are as good as giving a rubdown to a wooden leg...

    A good tip, if your parking and at a railway station, or shopping mall. If there is nothing to secure your scooter to. But other bikes/scooters are chained up. Put your chain through theirs.
    Will make both your vehicles more secure.

    I use a disc lock to which I tied a rope and one end of that that rope goes to the handles so I never forget it ;)
    I am also thinking of adding a GPS tracker somewhere, so in case it does get taken (for parts or something) the perpetrator would be tracked.

    Thieves normally go around in groups, so I am paranoid that my Vespa will get pinched! So, I use a Grip Lock, Disc-Lock and if I'm nervous enough the cable Lock! I do also sometimes take my big thick Motorcycle chain Lock, that weighs a ton! I would be devastated if it was Nicked!!

    I've been using the Grip Lock on my 2021 HPE300 Supertech for 6 months now. I've noticed lately when I return to the bike after it's been parked for a couple of hours that the rear wheel isn't locked - the brake has released. The lock is still holding the brake lever in place, but something else is going on where the rear brake itself is releasing after a certain period of time.....

    • @tenders
      @tenders 3 года назад +1

      I’ve been putting my grip lock on the front brake to also immobilize the throttle, because it takes less time to depressurize the hydraulic brake lines than it does to remove the front wheel. My LX has a wimpy rear drum brake, not sure immobilizing it is much of a security enhancement. But the objective of all of these is to *deter* thefts. If a thief wants *A* scooter, hopefully they’ll pick one with fewer deterrents. If a thief wants *YOUR* scooter, he’s going to get it. Throwing it in a van and driving off leaves plenty of time to grind this stuff off in the privacy of his own evil lair. I’m also hoping the Apple AirTag I hid in its guts and prominent “GPS tracking device” sticker are a further deterrent - and they cost less than a Grip Lock.

    Foldy Lock makes a folding lock for scooters and e-bikes. I think it is rated a Gold 18 rating for security. It might be a more compact option than a cable. I have heard from police that most thefts (of anything) are when people forget to lock something up with the built-in lock, whether it be a bike, a car, a house, etc. Thieves do NOT want to be hassled or draw attention to themselves. They will walk by your thing and go to another one that is easier. That's true of professionals, or opportunists. Basically, just make it a giant pain in the butt for the thief and they will probably move on. Nothing is certain though.

    well the issue is in some places like NYC. Currently your motorcycle or scooter is more likely to be stolen while riding believe it or not.
    - They will spot the scooter they want, and generally scooter will not be on streets for long few hours max. Meaning they will wait around, and wait for you to show up, once you take off, and remove all your locks, they will pull up next to or from behind as a 2 man team, and stick you up with a gun.
    At this point there really isnt much to do, If your scooter is a 250 300cc you probably could speed away if your quick otherwise you risk speeding in NYC and probably crashing into someone or something cause your freaking out.
    NYC right now is a bad place to own a scooter at the moment, which absolutely sucks, because I want to buy one so bad to get around but knowing I most likely will get robbed for it makes me not want to get one. I guess its the stinky train and bus for me, so sad
