There are way too many tools for me to ever attempt these DIYs but I love her general vibe. Watching the pieces come together is so calming for some reason.
Agreed, I think wooden handles and leaving the top wood would have been super cool. The handles and top most likely aren’t the same wood so I think even having the top be wood would have looked super nice.
The idea of gifting your friends with something repurposed is everything. Especially something found or treasured. The gift given with creativity is so meaningful, and the items will be valued.
The lamp shade idea is EVERYTHING ! To complete the look 100% I would have rounded of the sharp corners on the base. I have been searching for a "mid century" lampshade, and this just might work for my project. Keep em comin !
I would have tried a slightly darker green and stained the handles so they stood out and left the top wood so the handles and top would be wood with the green underneath
Was thinking the same thing! I also would've made the 'fake' double drawer into one (with woodfiller just like she did with the legs), so you'd only have one slit which is off center.
I totally agree with y’all. Just paint the drawer fronts and leave the rest wood. Filling in the faux drawer would’ve given it a really cool off centered look that I think would read very retro and utterly gorgeous. And since Becky didn’t seem to have a plan for that lamp sure seems like Justin could use it. Would be a vibe on that dresser.
I personally can't stand the mismatch painted and wood furniture, feels too TikTok lol - for me, it's gotta be a choice of either all paint or all wood, so I think the end result was great! Just goes to show how different styles can be
That lampshade looked gorgeous. Love it! I also love the shape of the handles. I could imagine the cabinet being a dark olive green with like a dark wood stain color for the handles.
I learned they were called finials after a very exhausting search for where I could buy the right ones for what I needed. Luckily you can get them with different sized threaded inserts since not all harps are the same. :-) I preferred the lamp over the dresser but both were well done.
Rochelle is great. She either needs a raise or she needs to be the fourth sorry girl. She's awesome. I know she's not a massive part of these projects but she always adds and helps level up the videos she's a part of.
I had hoped the handles of the dresser would be stained with the olive in the background. Maybe the top stained also to match the handles. But the all green look is nice too. The lamp is fantastic.
Girl, you made me nervous as Hades using the scroll saw. As an old hat at it, please keep your hands further from the blade. I am here to tell you, it can and will cut you to the bone, and 2) use a strong double sided tape when stack cutting. It will keep all the pieces together, and keep them from sliding like yours were. Other than that, you did a great job. The shade looks soooo good! Before ya know it, you'll be cutting intricate things too. Proud of ya!!@
i was a bit sceptical when rachel started to appear in videos but i was also sceptical when kelsey and becky started making individual videos and you see how amazing that it turned out. i'm watching the sorry girls for almost 8 years now and i love every turn that you make with it in the end ❤❤ also love rachel and LOVE the lamp
Scroll saws are my favorite, and that's a cool first project on one! A couple tips: 1) Pluck the blade while tightening until it sounds nice and resonant, then stop. 2) Always push forward with both hands when cutting curves, people tend to overdo the difference between pushing each side of your material. 3) To get more reliable cuts, center yourself in front of the saw, look at the line of the blade and then imagine it continuing on to your drawn line. If they are lined up, your cut will follow where you want it.
I was so sceptical when they added Rachel to the main roster just because I love Kelsey and Becky so much but Rachel is truly a visionary and has been such a perfect addition to the Sorry Girls ❤❤❤
Awesome makeovers. The only thing I would have done differently is to make a new base for the dresser to raise it up a bit and give it more of a mid century vibe.
Fun fact: a dee-poh is a train station; a deh-poh is a warehouse - Home Depot says it's name wrong! (also, a "lamp topper" is called a finial - smile emoji here)
For the lamp, when you have to make numerous shapes that should all be identical, it's best to use a router with a flush trim bit (considering you already had the template from the old cutting board too).
It's so cool you makeover each other's items, something you might not know what to do with or you've gotten bored of, your friend completely changes it giving it a new life
Very creative ~ very cool lamp! and that dresser has a whole new life being refreshed and modern ! Fantastic Rachael. Great Stuff topic too ! Kudos 🤟🤟🍁
I love how you are growing into your new(ish) role on camera. And the love and creativity you brought to this made me happy cry. Beautiful work, too! Definitely want to see more of this.
Rach you are so talented, wow! A lamp connaisseur! The handles on that dresser look amazing! Thank you for your videos this year, you're a great addition to the team. :)
I love these! Especially the lamp! The dresser turned out really cool but I would loved to have seen more of a wash or stain in olive...the paint being so opaque it just felt a little diy even though you did such an amazing job with the handles, but I understand why you did it that way.
Love it! I’ve always wondered how to go about creating a lamp shade and I really liked your approach. Since you invited comments regarding the scroll saw, I think the pieces you’re cutting may be a bit too thick; scroll saws work best for fine detail work with very thin stock. Band saws are a better choice for thicker stock, and you’ll get far less blade deflection than either a jig saw or a scroll saw. An alternate way to do the shade (assuming your plywood is at least 1/4” thick) would be to rough cut one piece with a jig saw, sand to the final desired shape, then use a template bit in the router to cut the remaining pieces (ideally after rough cutting with a jig saw or band saw). But your approach totally worked - loved the sanding together trick to increase consistency. Thank you for sharing it with the world!
I feel like making the base of the lamp into a circle instead of a square would really match the vibe of the lamp better (since there's so many curves)
Liked the flips. Really! Seriously! But I looooooovedddddd Rachel’s coat. I’ve been looking for on like that ever since Smilla‘s Sense of Snow came out!
Rachel you did such a good job. I love the olive color you picked for Jason's dresser! And Becky's light is amazing. We have a band saw and a scroll saw. I may give that light a try. You are so talented!!!!!!!!!!
I loved the dresser so chic, but the lamp. The only the that I would change would be to bevel the edges of the base or just going in with a sander and making the edges less sharp. The lamp shade is beautiful might try making that but as a plant stand. Great job Rachel.
For the scroll saw, blades make all the difference! The stock blades from Ryobi aren’t the best but if you switch them out for Modified Geometry Blades or Skip Reverse Tooth (pretty much any blades that are angled downward) will help to cut smoother for an easier time running the material through the machine and less tear out on your material😊
These are both soooo creative and they are “strong” aesthetic pieces!!!! Great job!!!!! You literally never cease to amaze me and now I am on a new hunt for fun up cycling projects of my own. 💚💚💚
So beautiful! 😍 Loved both! I need you to make this a series! The owners reaction is priceless and I love that everyone has a different style so it's actually more challenging. Well done Rachel 👏💖
I would have never thought of that lamp shade, I honestly thought you’d sand the vase down to be the same size as the lamp and rounded with maybe flutted lamp shade, but yours works better for her style.
When you first mentioned what you were going to do with the lamp It didn't seem appealing but when I saw the final product I was wowed by it, it's truly beautiful and stylish, almost sculptural. The dresser was a good makeover also. Even though I love olive green it didn't work for me on the dresser but I love what you did with the handles, again, it has a sculptural element. For anyone that's interested, the little screw on piece that secures the shade to the harp is called a finial.
The lamp was really cool. The dresser I would have gone with 2 tones. Either just stained wood for the top and handles, or a darker green on the drawers, but leave the handles the lighter green, just to give it some depth.
These were amazing! I was rooting for that shade of olive, it was perfect. The lamp shade was chef's kiss perfect, but this is just me being way too picky but I would have put a sealant on the lamp shade so it would have been easier to clean. I live with an 120 pound Akita/Shepherd mix pound puppy and he sheds about 2 pounds of hair a day LOL so I have an obsession with having things that are easy to dust. That being said, these were truely beautuful!
These look awesome! I maybe would have left the top of the dresser wood, and painted the rest green. Would have given even more dimension and character. But, I totally understand and agree with you playing it down a little to fit whatever style Justin decides to go for. These were such a creative and brilliant way to upcycle these items. Makes me want to think out of the box on future projects like this! Great video! :)
These were great! With the lamp, I would have gone the extra step and added a translucent plastic or even just a white fabric -really nice and taught- on the inside so the light is diffused more.
Wowzers Rachel!!!! Those are amazing!!!! Yes please do this again! I can't believe how legit they are. Justin's dresser is a work of art but Becky's lamp... Chef's kiss 😘 Incredible!!! Museum quality. Congratulations Rachel!
Honey when you cut smaller pieces don't reach around the saw to catch them. One wrong move and the saw goes straight into your arm! Love you and be safe.
you guys should give Justin a home or room(?) makeover for being so sweet and excited!!! Bring his mosh posh into his own style!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
YES!!!
Yes!

YES!
I love Rachael's flips. Her vision and creativity is refreshing and so inspiring.
i think she is most professional designer of the team
I agree! they're all so beautiful and unique

@@judy-angedv7590 Interesting, because I think the complete opposite.
@@kamisa7362 it is a great thing that taste is different for everyone . :-)
Honestly with olive being a natural tone, I'd have loved to see some bits of stained wood still on the dresser. Like the handles and the frame.
same
I agreee rhe handles and the top stained.
My thoughts as well, but luckily the depth of the pulls keep it from looking flat
Agreed, I think wooden handles and leaving the top wood would have been super cool. The handles and top most likely aren’t the same wood so I think even having the top be wood would have looked super nice.
Alternatively, Justin can add some wood decor pieces on the dresser to get that look.
Rachel is a freaking artist like those are art pieces
They are art pieces!

yeah, also would've gotten rid of the fake drawer, as she left it, it looks like it belongs in a kids room.
I totally agree with y’all. Just paint the drawer fronts and leave the rest wood. Great job on both pieces! Just wanted to let you know the 'lamp topper' is actually called a finial. Random bits of knowledge haha

I preferred the lamp over the dresser but both were well done.
Yes. That's what I came here to say.
This is another aglet moment 😂Thank you, I had no idea it had a name
I love what you do! Also I agree- Justin needs a room makeover!
Rochelle is great. She either needs a raise or she needs to be the fourth sorry girl. She's awesome. I know she's not a massive part of these projects but she always adds and helps level up the videos she's a part of.

That lamp is TOTALLY Becky. You nailed it. It's not my aesthetic, but I'm in love with that lamp!
That lamp was surprisingly awesome. Not to knock anyone’s skills, I just didn’t know how it would look, and now I want to replicate it.
Rachel is the queen of details! Love her very keen on details 😊
Awesome flips! And, shout-out to the editors for the sexy scroll saw jam and the epic 360 paint roller flip. Y'all crack me up.

Love the color on the dresser! Don't worry about painting the pine. It extended the life of the dresser! Awesome job
I love a scroll saw! I used it recently to cut foam for a reupholstering project and it made it so much easier!
