- West highland way part 2 from Tyndrum to Fort William. I returned after storm Francis to continue solo camping and wild camping the West highland way, one of the most beautiful UK hikes!
I had such an amazing time on this Scottish hiking trail and the views of Ben Nevis were simply stunning!
I have listed below the different campsites I stayed in and also places you can wild camp on each section of the trail.
Camping in Tyndrum - By the way campsite - 01838-400-333
Wild camp - there were a few tents wild camping oposite the campsite on the start of the west highland way trail
Bridge of Orchy - you can wild camp just over the bridge, there is a beautiful area by the river
Inveroran- You can wild camp just across the bridge from the hotel, there is also a tap on the outside of the hotel you can refill your water bottles
Kings house - You can wild camp just over the bridge from the hotel and use the facilities at the bunkhouse
Kinlochleven camping - You can camp at Blackwater campsite 01855 831 253
There is an area about 400 meters up the trail you can also wild camp for free
Fort William - You can camp at Glen Nevis campsite
Glen-nevis.co.uk
I saw a few tents on the trail just before the turn off to the campsite wild camping

I like a girl who swears . Down to earth. Loved both videos , you certainly got the better weather the 2nd week.
Congratulations on completing your stop at Bridge of Orchy Hotel reminded me of when we passed by it was mid morning and my mate likes a pint but not for me at that time with typical Lancashire wit my mate says a beer for me and a coffee for the lad ,I found the first glimpse of Ben Nevis quite magical which by the way we climbed just to top the walk off before heading home.
Wow I admire you guys for doing Ben Nevis at the end 😃👌🏻 I don’t think I could have managed it at that point but it’s def something I want to do for sure x
I done the section Tyndrum ro Fort William in 2 days. Recommend breaking that section at the Glencoe Mountain resort, very nice. Aiming to do Milngavie to Tyndrum in 3 days at the end of August. Really enjoyed your film.

You are great! Thank you for this video, I am planning to do it
Best of luck! It’s an incredible trail, I hope you have a fabulous time x
Hello again, as for the talking to yourself, if you dont like the looks you get off the other walkers, just put a pair of headphones in your ears, and they will think that you are having a phone conversation with someone!
But stuff em anyway. You just keep doing what you're doing, it's great. Keep up the great work!
Christopher Stevenson that is a great idea! 😃 you sir, are a genius! X
Brilliant video good effort completing that epic walk
Rick Morris aww thankyou it was gorgeous, was so lucky with the sunshine ☀️
Talking to yourself is the first sign of sanity. Talking to an invisible pink rabbit is a sign of madness. The legendary investor Warren Buffet said that if he wanted an honest answer to a question he would look in the mirror and talk to himself. But when walking through the landscape you can also have a conversation with nature, which I find reveals some very interesting things about the world we live in.
I can’t say I’ve ever talked to an invisible pink rabbit, but yes I do talk to trees sometimes and I always talk to any wildlife I see 🤗
I must admit your videos of the west highland way is my favourite you are such a fun loving person.
I was supposed to be doing the WHW this September , unfortunately had to postpone till next your, I’ve decided to do it solo to raise money for Alzheimer’s.

@@DrunkOnWanderlust 🤣😂 you're welcome, sometime I find myself talking to cattle. Or paying a game of dead or alive with them 🤣 what did you make of the WHW, in scheduled to do it in April. ATB Dave 👍
Dave Outdoors omg cows 🐄 are terrifying!!! 😱 I don’t even dare look at them nowadays ... they just know I’m scared and follow me ... I was chased by a whole field before .. hence the fear!!! WHW was immense, the scenery just got better each day and enough pubs on route to keep you hydrated 👌🏻👌🏻 id do it again for sure!!!
@@DrunkOnWanderlust I'm in agreeance with you in cows, I'd prefer to divert 2 mile than walk in same field as them. Ah the pub, I shall look forward to the en route. Was there enough places to restock on foot everyday, I do apologise for all the questions. 😊
Dave Outdoors no it’s fine honestly! Most of the way yes but I always carried a few days worth of food anyway as some sections I wild camped, and obvs not everywhere you can get snacks in the day x it really depends how many miles you can cover in each section ... but for total freedom I would take some with you
Hello there really enjoyed your WHW walk can't believe you wild camped in a pop up tent. I walked it in 2013 but would love to do it again. Hi Kris, ahhh thanks for the message 😃 how are you? Do you like hiking too? Ahh I’m excited for lockdown to end so I can get back out there and test out some new trails
I never questioned if it was normal or not talking to myself...you have to encourage yourself as you go. Brilliant effort to finish this one, I think you're right to pace yourself the first day. I learnt that the hard way doing the South West Coast Path in new boots. I can't wait to do this one myself later this year.
Yeah for sure, such a stunning trail 😃 oooh how was the SWCP? Hopefully I can get some sections of it done this year
@@DrunkOnWanderlust you must try SWCP but be prepared very hilly and rocky and sections I did from Poole to Weymouth hardly any services so really wild country - a real adventure that's for sure - wild camping is amazing. I did vlogs if any help for your planning

@@DrunkOnWanderlust well thanks because it's now in my head 🤣
I talk to myself when I’m solo walking - at least you’ll get a reply! I found the climb out of Kinlochleven much harder than the Devils Staircase. Well done!
I think I felt a bit fresher for the Kinlochleven climb because it was the start of the day 🤣 was still quite tough though! I’m glad you talk to yourself too!
When I climbed the Devils Staircase there was a tuck shop at the top.....the signs halfway up definitely spurred us on. 🐷🐷
Kim Potter what!!!! Nothing there when I got up ..... bloody COVID 😂
I’ve been married for 58 years so I’me allowed to talk to myself however if I answer myself back then it’s time to find help. Often regret not doing the walk when I lived in Scotland & was a lot younger ( 81 years young at present ) but really enjoyed your vlog. Stay young & keep up the wandering.
Hi there Richard 😃 well I now talk back to myself in silly voices when I hike
And your never too old
What beautiful weather you had on this 2nd stretch. Gorgeous vistas!
It's so refreshing to see you smiling despite all the obstacles you came across. Very very nice attitude
And thx for showing us all the places on the hike where you can get a good Guinness ;-)
A small hint to avoid a little bit of the cold nights: don't stay so close to water. I know it's quite hard to do so in Scotland ;-)
But next to water the air is much more humid and humid air transports warmth much better than dry air. And the transport alwasy goes from warm to cold. So it soaks the heat out of your environment and your body. If possible put some space (50m or more) between you and the water.
Happy hiking
Yes the weather was beautiful for this second part 😃 thanks for the tip! I never knew that! Good luck with getting to Scotland next year, I will be back up there doing the Great Glen Way when the weather picks up a bit 👌🏻
It's when you start taking to the sheep that is a definite sight of madness and when they answer back, that is the time to really worry, especially if your are feeling like Julie Andrews 😂. Real good to see you got some great weather for the second half of your WHW hike, you deserved it after part 1. Amazing scenery and I am always like a tortoise and like you say, it's not a race and I like to enjoy every second. It is a lot easier for lads who need to use the outdoor facilities and Mrs Metalman refuses to every use them, in the 42 years I have known her she has only ever had 2 outdoor wee's😂😂. Great to see the Glen Nevis campsite again, I remember camping there with my 9 and 12 year old son's before we climbed Ben Nevis 25 years ago - happy memories. Amazing effort and so good to see you stopped rain and midge free, albeit a tad chilly on the nightie. The trail looked easy to follow, I watched one guy do the WHW who kept on getting lost all the time, you must have a good sense of direction. Very enjoyable watch, cheers Alan
Hi Alan, awww so glad you liked it, yeah the glen nevis campsite with the views of Ben Nevis is pretty special 🤗 I hope to climb it this year sometime x luckily no sheep answered back so I can confirm I’m still sane ........ for now 🤣

Ahh thanks so much Richard, it was an unforgettable experience! I’m sure I will do it again at some point! You will have a great time 😃
loved watching again , I think you did awesome, would you take a different tent next time if you were to do the walk again?
Hi Stuart 😃 ahh good old Percy the pop up tent lol, yes… now I have my new tent I would take that as it’s more practical and I think it’s actually lighter too x I now have a big agnes copper spur, but I still loved every minute in the old tent 🏕
great video .everyone talks to themselves on the way .well done
Hey, fantastic walk and hike that, really looking forward to seeing you again soon 👍🙏❤️ and plz don't stop the the swearing, it's all part of uphill walking.!!! 😂😂
Lol ahhhh thanks so much!!! I can’t wait to get going on another one soon, 😁 the swearing will most prob stay, my mum just moaned about me dropping the F bomb too much ha ha 🤣👌🏻
Brilliant watch, I've been interested in doing this next year, after watching that it's a definite for me
Pete Lillistone omg you will love it!!! 😃👌🏻 it would be great if you got some nice weather, I was so lucky
Brilliant video.im talking to myself all day not just hikes hahaha
James Out And About N.I that makes two of us ...... 😂😂
@@DrunkOnWanderlust haha
Talk to myself whenever I find myself in the middle of nowhere on my own.. Always found it a bit odd and so would anyone else if they could hear the shite I come out with when going solo.. 😂 I blame the fresh air!
Cracking vids of this trail btw.. Will come in use! Cheers
your mums knickers I literally love your username!! 🤣🤣🤣👌🏻 yeah I’m blaming the fresh air too
We also hiked the W H W last September and our tent made it into the start of your video (the one nearest the track ) My wife remembers seeing you and thinking you’re brave, camping on your own. Anyway well done 👏
Hi there David 😃wow what a small world! That’s so fun that your tent is in the video lol x did you enjoy the trail? It was so beautiful wasn’t it!!!
Yes we loved it,as we hadn’t done anything like it before, we carried all our kit and mostly stayed in camp sites. We did one wild camp at Ba cottage on Rannoch moor which was awesome especially the Misty start to the day.
@@davidwhitehorn5779 i loved it so much, I’ve done two more trails this year and next week I’m back upto Scotland to do the great Glenn way 😁 x literally can’t wait!!
Really enjoyed the video. Just got back myself from completing the WHW in September. Mix of torrential rain, cloudless sky’s and midges. If you are contemplating another long distance hike have you thought about the South Downs Way. Amazing views, transport at both ends and loads of wildcamping along the way.
Ahh thanks so much! Yeah this video is from this sept 2020 was just so lucky with the weather, but part 1 was a lot of rain and midges along by the Loch x ooooh I’d love to try it! I’m currently doing the weavers way right now, but will need another hike soon
I really enjoyed that! So glad you got to finish it. The last time I done it, I left my rucksack with my girlfriend who came up in the car and I ran the last 27 miles from the ski slope to the end in 6 hours. Was amazing!
I talk to myself a lot when I'm in the hills. I sometimes sing to but usually get caught by other walkers. That happened on the conic hill one morning. Was running down after a wild winters night camping and was singing runrig songs. A couple were laughing when the heard me 🙈😊
I will let Nicola see this. She's gonna love it 😉 Great choice in drink to. You are so entertaining. Thank you for sharing xx
Awww what a lovely msg .... wow that’s impressive! Unfortunately this body was not made for running 🤣 walking is my limit! Yeah I’ve been caught out both singing and talking to myself too, sometimes I’ll be so deep in conversation I haven’t realised that other people are right behind me! Get some funny looks ha ha
@@DrunkOnWanderlust thanks! I wanna do the race and run the whole way in a day but not sure my knees would let me.
That's funny 😂 how embarrassing is it getting caught 🙈😂 especially if your arguing with yourself. I'm always telling myself to shut up when I've had enough of my talking 😂
If your ever up here and want some good walks, let me know. I will keep doing the West Highland way again and again because I love it so much bit would also like to try some more long distant routes to xx
david wilson omg run it in a day!! That’s crazy 😂😂😂 I think I want to try one of the other routes next ... I need warmer gear to camp with though as it’s getting colder at night x
@@DrunkOnWanderlust yeah I think the record is 14hrs 14mins and 44secs. 🤪 Absolutely amazing!
The Scottish national trail would be a good one but would take weeks. There are others. Hopefully see you back up here doing more. You really are a pleasure to watch. Sat there with a can of beer in bed watching it last night. Put me in the mood for going. Hopefully get the lovely weather you were blessed with.
Just keep building up your kit piece by piece. It's expensive but should last well if you look after it properly. I still have more to buy but can't always afford it. Lucky to have a good sleeping bag. Woke up with my tent covered in snow and I've been toasties in it. Looking forward to watching your other adventures on your channel xx
david wilson that’s insane! Awww 😊 I’m glad you enjoyed it! I’m hoping to do another one in a few weeks I’m just deciding which one .... also think I better get a different tent ha ha
I've just stumbled across your channel. Really enjoyed your video , well done...and its such a refreshing change to see a pretty face posting up this kind of content. Looking forward to seeing your next adventure =)
Michael Silver awww thanks for the compliment and so glad you enjoyed the vid I had a good laugh making it 💋💋
Nice video and well done. We pronounce it kinlochleeven up here. Other long distance walks with wildcamping are the Great glen way and also the Rob Roy way both with fantastic scenery. If your feeling energetic theres the Hebridean way in the outer hebrides which takes in some 10 islands and stretches for about 150 miles with stunning beaches along the way.
Ahhh I was so close 😂👌🏻 ooh, i defo wanna head back up and do another one soon, I’ve just got to decide which one!
heading up first week in april to do the WHW AND BEN NEVIS going do it in 10 days so i can enjoy the svcenery ,loved your videos you make them fun to watch
Thanks Dave 😃👌🏻 I’m glad your enjoying them! Your going to really love the WHW, I haven’t done Ben Nevis yet, but as soon as the weather improves next spring I’m heading up! I’m starting the weavers way in Norfolk tomorrow so keep an eye out for that video I’m sure it will be a good laugh x
@@DrunkOnWanderlust if you like
Just finished the WHW on Friday past , All four seasons on route ,what stunning scenery even in the rain , awesome hike Atb K
Oh wow 😃👌🏻 well done! It’s quite a trail isn’t it!! So glad you enjoyed it x will you be making a video? I’d love to watch it x thanks for commenting 🤗
@@DrunkOnWanderlust Yes ,part one is up just now , with the rest following very soon ,feel free to drop over and have a look ATB K
Sorry, but I genuinely laughed when you said it was freezing at just under 8 degrees. That's heatwave weather up here or, as it is more commonly known, taps aff weather. Enjoyed the vid, well done for completing it.
🤣🤣🙈 yes but I’m pretty sure I’m cold blooded like a reptile, I had not long moved back from Thailand either so to me it felt freezing!!!!
@@DrunkOnWanderlust I actually watched your packing video for the trip last night and, as I'm sure plenty others will have pointed out to you already, the problem would have been your inflatable mattress. Those things give no insulation from the ground. Had you taken your foam mat as well, and used it under the air mat, you would have been comfier and warmer.
But yes, going from Thailand to Scotland would certainly have been a shock to the system as well!
@@thewhiskybowman actually your the first person who has mentioned that! Wow ok thanks for telling me 🤗🤗 and it barely weighs anything so I’ll defo take them both when I come back to do the great glen way in the spring 💋💋💋
@@DrunkOnWanderlust Hmmm, depending on when in the spring you are coming back up that air mat and foam pad may still not be enough. Early spring the temps can easily be dropping below freezing. It might be worth your while googling camping mat R rating, (thankfully it's nothing to do with covid R rating), which will give you an idea of how insulating these things are. You can stack them, to improve insulation, so keeping the foam pad is still a good idea (plus it helps protect air mats from sharp stones and the like).
Hope you have a great trip when you do come back! Winter and spring are always my favourite time to go out and about here, less damn midges!
Loved both of the Videos, well done for completing it. Thinking of doing it for my 50th next year. Think I might take a better tent than Percy though 😂
Bari Pollard wow you will have such a good time!! 🤣🤣🤣 Percy is a legend! Although next time I head to Scotland I’ll consider a different tent
Well done on getting to FW 👌🏼Come back and do the last half mile to complete it and then crack on to the East Highland Way to Aviemore 👍🏻
Hi Gordon, thanks for watching 😃 don’t worry I’ll be back up as soon as I am allowed lol x I want to do the Great Glen Way, climb Ben Nevis and do the Isle of Skye trail this year..... what’s the East Highland Way like? Is it pretty?
Just finished the whw yesterday. Walked all week in 22 -27 degree heat was brutal. Wasn't wild camping thankfully did it through a company TMM experiences can't recommend them enough . Absolutely brilliant . But yeah that last half Mile to the new finish line is kinda anti climactic and a slog on pavement. But can't wait to get booked for next year already 🤣🤣
You've made me want to do it but in short stages, not into the long slog but take my time and take the chill pill
Keith A Davies best way to do it! Far more enjoyable I think 😃 then you can squeeze in more pub stops lol
Always talk to myself!
That’s reassuring that’s it’s not just me! 🤣
You really need to see the beaches of the the Isle of Harris 😍, best way to see them is to travel to Ullapool then tour the Isle of Lewis and travel down to Isle of Harris, then get ferry to Isle of Skye, I'm sure you would love it
Mark Halliday I’d love too! It will be on my bucket adventure list 😃👌🏻
ruclips.net/video/FioLsYH3xWA/видео.html
I literally talk to myself all the time, It's when you start having arguments with yourself when you want to get worried.
Darren Kelly 🤣🤣🤣 luckily that’s hasn’t happened yet, although I have been in full blown conversation with myself and not realised another hiker had come up behind me to overtake ..... I got some funny looks!
@@DrunkOnWanderlust We ALL talk to ourselves from time to time dearest! Never noticed that when you're stuck in a traffic jam? A wee tip - if someone hears you on the trail just put your hand to your ear as if holding a tiny earpiece and say "ok, great to talk, but must dash, bye"! I've even had people say sorry for interrupting my call! Or if you want to really have fun just say loudly " my psychiatrist says I'm making progress but I still get the urge to attack people overtaking me"! It is quite fun watching them run actually. OK I'll get my coat.
@@nigeldunkley2986 this made me howl!!! 😂😂😂👌🏻 some awesome suggestions here x
Great Part 2 and glad you were able to complete the trek! Have to say I do fancy doing the second half you did here, probably wouldn't bother with the first as I prefer the wilder areas. If it's any reassurance, I'm well past the stage of talking to myself :D
Keep 'em coming! :-)
Steve Y it’s always good to know I’m not the only one lol 😂 I’m considering the great Glen way next? Have you done it?
@@DrunkOnWanderlust I haven't, I'm only just starting to holiday in the UK again after decades of routinely going abroad. The last long distance walk I did was the Cleveland Way before you were born :D :p
Steve Y I’m the same I’m usually backpacking in nice hot countries so exploring the UK is new to me too x
Wonderful. Did this with a mate back in 98. If I could have given you one tip before you went:- Cig at the top of hill not just before you are about to climb it.
Graham Stevens 😂😂 yep i def learnt my lesson in that one! It was immense, I wanna do it again with some friends next year
@@DrunkOnWanderlust I can understand that. I've been fortunate enough to visit many wonderful places around the globe but even with that the WHW experience is still up there with the best of them. I've been meaning to do it again myself for the last 20 years!
Graham Stevens you totally should! When the world goes back to some kind of normal state my next big adventure is South America, the lost city trek in Colombia and Inca trail in Peru ... but it might be a little while yet!
@@DrunkOnWanderlust Good choice but stop it, I can hear my boots shouting at me from the cupboard. Can't comment on Columbia have only seen the inside of Bogota airport prior to making an emergency landing in Caracas. Peru throughout is just a fantastic country and the Inca trail is the WHW on steroids with altitude thrown in.
Graham Stevens 🤣🤣 arrghhh I cant wait to go!!!!!! There’s too many things I need to do, also wanna do the Appalachian trail
