Ideally you should be soldering connections, spades and ect are high impedance also they can over time corrode or disconnect. As others have said 24volt relay too. If the LED for the rocker does bother you, you can make a switch to isolate the accessories from the battery.
The rocker switch LED is for the headlight illumination wire, not +12V constant. Good video though guys. I love how you 3 really give it a crack. I wish many more guys would just get in there and try.
Hi. Seeing the l.e.d lamp only draw 2 amps can I just link a l.e.d load resistor onto the lamp then couple it to my current existing factory reverse lamp on my 2012 Nissan Navara D40 diesel?, I'm wanting to just have it on when reversing only as I don't want to run it thru a switch. Cheers Carl
Love ur work guys but why did u not just run it from the existing reverse lights I just did this and worked first go I have no idea about cars but was curious why u went with the way u did 🤙
Good job mate. Although next time you don't need to cut a wire to tap into it. Just strip or expose a little bit of the insulation and solder onto the wire 👍 just saves avtually ruining the integrity of the original wire
G'day blokes, love the job, I have a GU wagon, and I'm wondering if you've thought about how one would install LED reverse lights utilising the useless tail lights at the back end
Why not draw power for the new reverse lights from the constant power line in your tray lights rather than run a whole new line from the battery? Honest question as I’m looking at doing this myself. Thanks for the videos guys 👍🏼
did some reading on the internet and apparently i think they should be fine. reverse lights can only be used when in reverse gear with the ignition on. Lights must be no more than 1200 mm above the ground & comply with Vehicle Standard (Australian Design Rule 1/00 - Reversing Lamps) 2005 - www.legislation.gov.au/Details/F2005L03873
@@AussieArvos ADR13 - They must also be mounted no lower than 250mm off the ground, and no higher than 1200mm. If you’ve got a ute with only one reverse light you’ll be able to install a light bar down low as your second; but if you have a wagon with two functioning reverse lights, a third on the roof rack will get you pinged, So what you show in the video is unarguably illegal you have 2 standard reverse lights and 4 LED reverse lights 6 in total on a vehicle that is 6 meters in length when its only mandatory for one. One bit of wording to pay close attention to is ‘up to a maximum of four’. This refers to additional lights so it includes fog lamps in a bullbar if the vehicle wasn’t originally fitted with them. Two new fog lights on the bar and a pair of HIDs in the middle will mean a light bar will count as a fifth light and be illegal - no matter where it’s mounted.
Nice inline fuse at the battery - very important, the rest is optional. Wouldn't hurt to run a trailer wire while you're about it, get 7 cores from end to end, maybe one or two heavier cables for Ron. You didn't show the boot you got off the relay??
Just found this. Pretty good commentary. Question about your work lights though - can you turn them on at any time? By that I mean could you theoretically flick them on at a car right behind you doing 100 clicks on the highway?
I did this for free my dad got a old light bar from work because the glass was smashed on it so they just gave it to him and my pop had lots of wire and now my yard Ute has work/reverse light and my pop will help if I get my first car
The first relay was a 24v relay 😅 you want a 12v one haha, Using ground as a negative isnt a good idea because if something shorts on the body the amps could go up in every circuit using ground as negative and make it hard to diagnose why you starter battery is always dead after one night .....
@@alijaffal3916 i always do and try to keep each thing such as light bar on its own circuit .... if you use the body of your car as negative then it only takes one of your positive cable to rips and touch the body and if its before a relay or switch you will get sparks/ short circuit or a fire, and putting a fuse on the positive is a good idea too, but not all cars are negatively earthed
Hi why bother with relay. Just join two red wires splice to reverse light wire or trailer plug reverse wire and join both black wires and ground to chassis or individually ground both black wires. No relay needed.
Can’t really blame 4wdsupacentre for your 24v relay not working on a 12v circuit. They include the second relay in case you have a 24v truck it’s not just a free relay. Only picked up on it because I tried the exact same thing
Your vids are good bros. But for the love of baby jesus-please buy yaselves a decent pair of wire strippers and crimpers!! Go for the ratchet crimpers and Knipex strippers!
two best things on a friday. Pizza night and Aussie arvos uploads
😂😂 bloody legend! , Cheers mate!
I'll be calling spade terminals "shovel ends" from now 😎
haha classic aussie shenanigans

Glad to see you put some conduit on it in the end!
I run kings work lights straight off my reverse lights wiring works a treat
The amp draw of the leds are most likely low enough to pull power straight from the factory reverse 12v+. No need for a relay.
And same with the work lights those rocker switches can handle the current draw of the lights.
@@TheATVboy17 Yeah probably could've and would be much neater!
Do it once, do it right.
I usually install led reverse lights like that, even did a halogen once without a relay. Just straight from the factory wires. No issues.
Would you get bulb error if you did this on a new hilux (no relay)
Watch a couple of your videos. Good videos, like your approach and maturity
should hook up the rocker switch to park lights so when you turn on your head lights it illuminates the rocker switch for your rear cab lights??
Nice vid mate!
They are called ring terminals not circles haha love it!
😂😂 Cheers mate! Yeah we called them a few diffrent things 😂
Great vid fellas!

fark mate the gq is coming along nicely
Cheers Jez!!
Best way to learn bud...nicely done👍👍

Pretty cool maan! So many things I can do to my new old truck now! Even covid loc down not enough time! I must pimp my ride as well!
Good to see you having a "crack" - Well articulated and demonstrated - Excellent !!!!
Thanks Swish Swish! means a lot you saying that :)
Good shit mate, although if I’m not mistaken, extra led reverse lights like those are illegal?
Yeah. They would need to be switched from the cab on the relay, not the factory reverse light as signal.
That's why hes running a relay 🤦so both options are available
Had factory switched ones for years never been picked up
Mate, if I was to do this but for my tool trailer. Where could I get the positive from? Cheers
Solid work Liam! ytb
yeah cant wait to do this mod to the cruiser, im wanting to do light bar for maximum light hahaha
What gauge wire did u use

could you not run the positive straight off the reverse light and negative straight to ground? thought the LED a low enough voltage

@@officialWWM noooooo no scotch locks they are rubbish
Can't you just tap into the trailor reverse wire going into the trailor plug?
Oh I want a flatbed like that. Have a 2002 gmc sonoma 4x4 with a bed that's rusting over the back tires.

The am draw could be too much.
Where’d you get your Ridgeline hood from!? Can’t find it anywhere 😪
Got it as part of a pack a few years ago, not sure if they’re still about
This is proper agricultural spec wiring
Very helpful
Is the reverse lights vic Road legal or does it also need a seperate switch to be able to switch them off when in reverse

How do you add switch to reverse lights?
can youse make a diy water tank with tap video?
where did you get the rear light button from
Just ebay special!!
Why not just hook into the factory reverse lights power? Then, when you put it in reverse they will come on. Much easier!

Aussie Arvos we knew ya meant “spade” connectors mate haha keep up the great work lad’s!!

Whats the relay for
The supacenter relay didn’t work because it is a 24 volt one.
Good pick, I had to go back and check that.
Probably find the relay that wasn't working is Probably a 24v on as supacentre supply to relay
old vid, but if you earthed the initial relay by mounting it to the spot it would have worked
just use the 12V relay straight up, not the 24V...no wonder why it didnt work hahaha

It’s always been called earth wire.. although both mean the same thing
