When talking about the switch, you discuss orange going to pin 8 on one end and to the battery (for constant on availability and switch light remaining on if switch is grounded) or to fuse box (for ignition on activation) . MAKES sense on both senarios. THEN regarding the relay... you note that orange is connected to pin 30 and then back to the battery. SO... will there be TWO orange wires connecting directly to the battery... one to switch and one to relay? THANKS
Rocky X TV hey man I want to connect my rock lights to my courtesy lights and to a switch too , You think this would work or should I use a diode like in the video of the light bar ??
I cant see the switch, supposedly if i use a 7 pin dpdt and use one side so it acts as a spdt, do i still connect the wires to the pin number like in this video? (7 to ground, 8 to battery or dash, 2 to 86 in the relay and 3 to the tapped positive of the reverse light)
I did mine on a relay so if I put it in reverse they would be switched on and off automatically with the high beams. Foreward off-road lights are similar, but with the ability to disable them with a dash rocker as well as off with low beam.

Great video and great detail! Thanks for going through the pain of leaving everything exposed and repeating its for demonstration purposes only ahha. I was wondering though. I have an Auxbeam switch panel. Would it be possible to wire it with 2 different switches instead of a rocker? to where I can manually turn lights on on my switch panel but have a different button mounted on the dash where "on" means it turns on with the reverse and off means it doesn't? It would depend on the brand of switch, MOST of the time manufacturers stick to a universal pin layout as to make all switches the same, but sometimes you get a company that just doesn't follow the rules. Terrific video and instruction. I want undertake the same installation as you have shown, however, with one addition. I would like to add a switch in the rear of my vehicle that would allow me to turn the rear lights on and off manually. Are you able to help with how I would wire this switch to work with the three position switch at the front. Thanks
You could add another switch to the rear, but it would be independent from the other switch. You would have to turn the lights on and off at the rear. You couldn't turn them on at the rear and then off at the front, or on at the front then off at the rear and so on. Automotive switches and wiring makes it very difficult to replicate a typical "3-way" switch like you would have in your house.
Appreciate this video. I going to hook up the external backup lights to my truck. I was told I probably wouldn’t need to have a relay, but you are using one for these . The lights I’m going to use are 9,000 lumens . Should I be concerned about using a relay?
May I ask help from you? I purchased the exact switch you demonstrated and connected it to two 7" LED's in my pickup exactly the way you demonstrated., everything worked for about two weeks then the manually controlled backup LED's quit working. They work in R, but not when I want to turn them on independently. I have checked and rechecked the connections, all are ok. I have checked the continuity in the switch, this is what I found: Switch Top press in, continuity only between pens 7 & 8. Middle switch in neural, no continuity in any of the pins. Switch bottom press in, continually only between pins 8 & 2. I don't know what this means. I don't know if the switch failed. Can you somehow give me some pointers to fix this issue? Just added more info for you. The power supply for the SPDT switch is supplied by another switch and this is connected to SAPDT pin 8, pin 7 ground, center pin to relay 86, bottom left pin to power from reverse lights.
so you use a 5pin relay, is that ok. or should I use a 4pin? it's just my understanding that power continues to 87a. great video, made setting up my rear lights and light bar to high beams easy to understand. thnx.

Great video. Question is there a way to add a momentary switch to the circuit to flash the lights? I'm guessing it is as simple as addinh the switch and some one way resistors to eliminate feed back. Maybe I'm just tired but I cant figure it out.
My aux rear LEDs are very bright. I did not put a switch on them because I know that I would be more than tempted to flip them on to get even when someone is driving behind me with their brights on. Mine come on only when I shift into reverse.
Hey Rocky..not sure if you'll even see this because of how long ago this is from. But is it the same for an on/off switch? I did have it hooked up with a on/off/on switch like you show, but now i need just a 2 position switch rather than a three. Thanks
Awesome video but i still have 1 question, i plan to run the switch to the fuse box is it better to run the relay to the fuse box as well or should that be direct to the battery?
I always run relays directly to the battery with an inline fuse, but you could run it to the fuse box as well. Just make sure you are using an empty/aux location in the fuse box for the relay and not sharing one. You could use a shared one for the switch though. Thanks for watching!
Followed the steps. But when i manually flip thr switch, it doesnt come on. It comes on auto with the reverse and turns off when flip in the middle. Any help? Do i have a bad switch or relay?
I honestly don't know. I've actually never used an Spod. I did make my own version of one though. Thanks for watching and sorry I couldn't answer your question.
Is there a way to bypass the relay? My set up are in cabin RGB LEDs t-tab to the interior cab light with an on-off-on switch. Everything is working fine but because of my cabin lights dim out when the door closes... I believe that the relay is making a buzz as the lights dim out. Any advise?
I have a question, if I want to wire up a add on cube LED to the existing back up light, but I also want to add a switch to turn it on and off as I need. Please help me out.
I have watched this video a couple of times, but I am using a different switch which is why I think I am still a little lost. My switch has 6 pins on the back of it and I am trying to do exactly what you have going on to where one position is reverse comes on when in reverse, one for them on without in reverse and one with them off.
Is it possible to make the neutral of the switch (middle) for the lights to come on when reversing. The top push in when you want to use them freely and the bottom to turn them off?
Hi Rocky, I have another doubt. I would like to install a roof, bumper and rear light bars. Do you think it is necessary that I use a relay for each light wiring, or just a single relay would be ok for all thel ights? Thanks again!
If they are under 30 Amps combined, you could theoretically use a single relay. I would suggest using a relay and fuse on each though, just to be safe.

Have 7pin trailer plug in in the back of truck so my hot to battery and grounds can be wired off of it

2) can I run my wires to my cargo lamp hot wire that is behind cargo lamp outside of the cab with T-Taps to not have to wire all the way inside cab up to the cargo lamp switch

Question. Fuses, should there be one for the power to pin 8 on switch and a fuse from pin 87 to auxiliary light?
Instead of spliced into reverse lights, would this work if spliced into park lights?
Since you are adding direct power to the switch, will it drain thr battery if you leave in the auto position?
There shouldn't be any parasitic draw from the switch alone.

Hey Rocky..not sure if you'll even see this because of how long ago this is from. But is it the same for an on/off switch?
I did have it hooked up with a on/off/on switch like you show, but now i need just a 2 position switch rather than a three.
Thanks
Hey Bro, FYI there is no pin eight on that switch. there's pins 7, 1, 2, and 3. Keep on keeping on....
I think the rigid kit already comes with the relay harness... i think this is a good idea though.
I have some crazy stupid bright reverse lights can you do that to the actual factory reverse light to come on separate with the switch
Followed the steps. But when i manually flip thr switch, it doesnt come on. It comes on auto with the reverse and turns off when flip in the middle. Any help? Do i have a bad switch or relay?
How would this set up work connecting to an spod?
I honestly don't know. I've actually never used an Spod. I did make my own version of one though.
Thanks for watching and sorry I couldn't answer your question.
where does the second orange wire from the battery come from. one to the lights and one to the switch. or did you just splice it somewhere?
Is there a way to bypass the relay? My set up are in cabin RGB LEDs t-tab to the interior cab light with an on-off-on switch. Everything is working fine but because of my cabin lights dim out when the door closes... I believe that the relay is making a buzz as the lights dim out. Any advise?
I have a question, if I want to wire up a add on cube LED to the existing back up light, but I also want to add a switch to turn it on and off as I need. Please help me out.
I got it to work but I’m get buzzing coming from the switch when the reverse lights come on with the aux lights.
Awesome!! Thank you so much! You rock!
You ate welcome! Thank you for watching!
great video.. what gauge of wire are you using ?
I have watched this video a couple of times, but I am using a different switch which is why I think I am still a little lost. My switch has 6 pins on the back of it and I am trying to do exactly what you have going on to where one position is reverse comes on when in reverse, one for them on without in reverse and one with them off.
If you send me an email with a link to your switch I might be able to send you a wiring diagram to help. ( rocky.tvchannel@gmail )
@@RockyXTV okay thanks man I feel like its gonna be really simple and I am just overthinking it
I sent you a email just reply once you get a chance
Is it possible to make the neutral of the switch (middle) for the lights to come on when reversing. The top push in when you want to use them freely and the bottom to turn them off?
Very good how-to video bud. I'll have to reference this one again at some point. I'd like to do this on my Wrangler eventually.
I hope people can get some use out of this, I thought it was a good idea.
In theory could this same concept be used to wire a light bar to my high beams? Same set up but instead just t-tap into the high beam wire?
So I can get them to work in reverse but when I switch it.. it turns on just my stock tail lights do I need to add a diode you think?
thanks for the video mate
Thanks for checking it out!
Any chance you could do a more detailed diagram about who you wired this?
You can email me and I think I have a schematic for this. rocky.tvchannel@gmail.com
